If you'd rather bring an inferior player suit yourself, but considering regular season stats for this season only as well as bringing up work ethic as justification isn't really smart. Also leads me to believe you don't really watch or know much about the Hurricanes (but I don't really blame you for that).

I've seen enough of Skinner's shtick in the NHL and at the WHC... and other than his first year, he's done nothing to impress. So, let him do his pirouettes somewhere else. and it is not always about the superior player, but the player who has the greater will...but you haven't gotten to that page in your hockey handbook yet. (but I really don't blame you for that...stick with it, it picks up in chapter 5.)

I'd rather forget players having lousy years on lousy teams in negative environments and go with a few new faces having decent years and coming from a more positive team environment.

It's getting ridiculous with Murray. Seems like it is often different parts (shoulder, knee) getting injured. Either he has terrible luck or he's made of glass.

Simmonds broke his leg last night and is out. He was having a good year and could have brought a unique element to one of the lower lines.

It is bordering on the absurd to be this injury prone. At this point I think we have better options, or at least I hope we do. And yes, sucks to lose Simmonds to injury.

In comes Bernier to replace Simmonds...

Steve Bernier? I certainly hope not. It wouldn't stun me though.

Bernier wouldn't be my 1st choice either. At this point I'm hoping L.A. doesn't make the cut and Toffoli could be Simmond's RW replacement. with the added bonus of bringing Carter and Doughty with him.

I would rather just put centres on the wing than scrape the bottom of the RW barrel. Canada isn't deep at RW. Of the available players, there is a big drop at that position after Eberle. My ideal scenario would involve Johansen moved to the right side to accommodate a centre the calibre of Seguin.

Ya, but I have Giroux going (you don't) and playing RW with the Dallas pair. Of course that's all predicated on them even accepting. but I'm also including Johanson and Eberle on the right side.

I think Rielly should be invited he has international experience and he has been one of the few leafs still playing with effort even though there out of the playoffs.

I'm ok if Rielly is there. I'd prefer T.J. Brodie though and the good news from last night's results, Calgary drops out of the Top 8.

i haven't heard anything yet, but I'm quite sure that Benn, Seguin, Johansen, and Duchene all go. I just feel it. Giroux should and will be there too imo. Yes, optimistic version, but very possible imo. I feel we get a pretty strong team this year.

hopefully the team is better that last year. only reason someone should decline a invite to play for there country is if there injured or dealing with family issues.

I'm confident that Johansen goes as he hasn't played for Canada since the 2011 juniors and probably wants to make sure that Hockey Canada has him in mind for bigger tournaments. I'm also confident that Duchene will go as he has gone multiple times and I would think wants a chance to end on a high note after a disappointing season. We'll see about Seguin and Benn. Seguin has skipped out before and he's probably a big enough name at this point that participating isn't going to be required of him. Benn is a lock for Canada going forward, so it just depends on his desire.

One of the reasons I think Seguin will go is that he's not a lock for team Canada, even though he's been great this season, and then he hasn't really represented Canada much so far. the thing is I think he knows there is the center depth and some centers will play the right wing (Stamkos, maybe Carter/Bergeron). Nothing is given to him and I think he will do anything he can, to increase his chances a little bit. I really don't think he just skips the tournament this year. A similar reason could apply for Giroux, who knows. If I am one of those players I don't have the confidence to refuse an invitation when there is World Cup next year and I know the team is deep and I haven't represented Canada much so far (Seguin) or I wasn't selected last time to the olympic team. It would surprised me A LOT if both or even one of them said no, I really don't expect that. But who knows. Of course I will understand if they just have the confidence and/or think the WHC doesn't matter as much. But I'm leaning to the "YES" as their answer.

The same would apply to Seguin last year, though I guess you could say that the 2014 WC was certainly far away from any halfway meaningful hockey, so he may be more inclined as other tournaments loom. Giroux is possible. I could understand him being displeased over being the biggest snub in 2014, particularly after he played in the 2013 WC.

Brodie would be good, particularly as he can play on the left or right. Monahan would be a much better inclusion than he was last year as well. His early success makes me increasingly angry over the 2013 WJC.

He obviously wouldn't be the first choice but I think he's the realistic one. Plus, he is having one hell of a year this year.

He started off in the AHL but now he's played surprising well of late. He has 13g and 14a in 59 games on a Devils team whose highest scorer is Henrique with 16g and 24a in 69 games.

wonder who the goalies will be maybe Mike Smith and James Reimer both have played at the tornament before and are on teams elimated from the playoffs.

I like Mason, and then maybe either Bernier or Reimer. Ward is still solid. And obviously Luongo, but last year he decided to watch the playoffs :) I don't know about Smith, the last time he was very good for Canada (2013) and it's just a year when he was at the olympics. Can anyone tell me something more about him and this season? But seriously, I would be pretty comfortable with Mason.

aaand a nice goal by Barrie + a sweet assist from O'Reilly :) hope both of them play for Canada :)

I also like chances for Boone Jenner being in this team. A nice job defensively today against STL and then 6 seconds after that he scored a goal after a pass by Johansen.

this would be my roster right now (with no Marleau, Thornton, E.Staal, and Spezza, those would be a huge boost, but it's unlikely any of them will participate) I am not considering Ottawa will make the playoffs, but if they do and Boston is eliminated, Bergeron could be a big upgrade, maybe even Marchand

Benn - Giroux - Seguin
Monahan - Duchene - Johansen
Hall - Nugent-Hopkins - Eberle
O'Reilly - Bozak - Couture
Couturier/J.Staal/Turris

Vlasic - Burns
Phaneuf - Brodie
Russell - Ekblad
Rielly

S.Mason, Smith, Bernier

Hey, I jumped up and down and screamed as loud as I could for years, crapping all over Hockey Canada for the choices they were making.. So much so that it ruffled a few feathers around here....but I never grow tired of being right. And I'm still not convinced that Hockey Canada will stay on the straight and narrow when it comes to the junior team. They may very well revert back to their dumb dumb ways.

and to get back on topic, considering how easily Detroit manhandled TB yesterday, Stammer may become available pretty quicky. Doesn't hurt to dream.

I really want to see Barrie there. He's one of Canada's best puck moving defencemen already. I'm also a big Jenner fan. I don't know if they'll pick him given his injuries this year, but he could be useful. Needs to get a bit quicker though. Also... no to Phaneuf and Bozak, please. Phaneuf just can't skate well enough to be useful in Europe. If they can get Campbell it would be much more effective than Phaneuf. You have Bozak centering two far superior players in O'Reilly and Couture. Move one to centre and pick any of the many superior options to Bozak for the other wing.

If I recall correctly, Monahan was one of the earliest cuts. One of the things that annoys me most every year is when they pretend that being drafted makes a player more mature. One of the knocks on Monahan was that he was still undrafted, but that was disingenuous since Monahan was just a late birthday. Unlike MacKinnon and Drouin, Monahan was in his third junior season and was as experienced as most players from the 2012 draft. Hard to make room for Monahan when you need to find spaces for Camara and Lipon though. I also wonder how Pouliot or Ceci would have looked on that team, but what's done is done.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tampa went out early. Young and defence isn't consistent. I would be surprised is Stamkos participated in this tournament though. He's played numerous times, got injured at the tournament one year, and it seems to me that he is clearly not fully recovered from his broken leg last year. He may want to continue working on his leg as much as possible.

The team I'm most interested in is the Islanders. They haven't looked good lately (true for most East teams it seems) and have basically no playoff pedigree. Tavares is already on record with his thoughts on playing for Canada. Hamonic would be a nice addition. Strome is developing into a very good two way players and has had a strong season.

I'd love to see Tavares and Hamonic as well...I'd even make room for Strome if I had to, but as poorly as they seem to be playing right now, I really don't think it's going to take much of an elevated effort to knock off the Pens. Letang took a nasty hit yesterday and could miss some time. Although I haven't heard anything about the extent of Letang's injury. It didn't look good though.

Yeah the East looks like a crapshoot beyond the top two seeds. I can see the Islanders dropping to 7th (I expect they will be 6th at best) and if that's the case, I don't see them beating the Rangers or Price in the first round.

i don't think bernier would accept a invite because it is so far away and he does have a son and fiance. Reimer i could see going since he has gone to WC's twice and was invited to WJ's in 2006 but couldn't go cause he broke his hand.
