Saw a Swedish movie yesterday - it was about an avalanche in the French Alps and the husband ran away and didn't protect his wife and kids - she was pissed that he wasn't more of a man. She was really attractive so the movie was ok -- otherwise it sucked. Like an Ingmar Bergman adventure movie.

Go Nylander!
Gasp! You don't like Ingmar Bergman? :shakehead It's ok, we have a backup-Bergman.

Edit: Ah, sorry for the OT, thought this was the GDT.

Any positive from the game? hehe

It didn't look as bad as some are saying. It's just a completely different type of game than they are used to in the SHL so it will take some adjustment.

-First exhibition game
-Still adjusting to the smaller ice
-Maybe some jetlag still
-Hägg not playing & a couple of cuts still to be made
-Very shaky goaltending
-Bad start, weak call that resulted in a goal against

First period was horrific, not many positives there. The 2nd was a good period for us, could have tied the game there but Ward let in a weak one instead. 3rd period was a mix of good & bad. Overall our D played a very physical game, sometimes borderline dirty, but their positioning was way off a lot of times.

The good...

-De la Rose played a good game I thought, he was our only good player in the 1st.
-Nylander can play much better but he's always going to be deadly when given a little bit of space.
-Wallmark looked so poised on the PP, didn't notice him much 5-on-5.
-Lagesson was a surprise in a good way, he is going to make this team.
-Aho was definitely our best D offensively.

And the bad....

-Kylington stood out in a bad way, he would be my cut right now.
-Anton Karlsson looked absolutely horrendous on the PK, the way he got walked a couple of times does not belong on this level. He goes for the hits but he's just not a very smart player.
-Pretty much all the players I haven't mentioned were invisible out there.

The great skating and passing puck possession game that the junior teams have spoiled us with the last 6 years or so was totally gone. It looked abysmal most of the time. It might have to do with the the rink size but for it to work you need very talented D's and our D's looked like they were more interested in hitting than playing. Im not sure what to make of this game but it cant get much worse, thats for sure.

If the reality is catching up with Swedish youth hockey (tiny player pool) or not we will soon see. I just felt very disappointed to see such a skill less team. Its nothing wrong with getting the timing wrong etc.. moving from large to small ice but this team looked like they tried to mimic a NA team from 20 years ago.

Canada looked good, which was nice to see for a change. Lets hope the swedish team can find their ways and start playing like a swedish team once it all starts.

Wouldn't be too concerned about this game. It means nothing. But we should see a better performance vs USA.

Yeah, you are probably right. Actually watched the vod (posted above) and the game didnt seem as horrible the second time as when i watched it last night. Still a long way to go though but hopefully its all about getting used to the different ice size etc...

Jonas Johansson is out with injury, Fredrik Bergvik called in

Well that should settle it then, Söderström #1, Ward #2. Let's watch Söderström play America first though, but he was my starter going in Johansson or not.

Where is ward from originally? Sounds like a immigrant-name. Unless it's a changed version of Wärd.
Anyways I hope he spends the tourny on the bench after those cheap goals.

And Kylington to.

You sure that wasn't Cam Ward in net? Looked like him. ;)

Interested in seeing how Soderstrom does.

I believe your assessment of trying to play outdated canadian hockey from 20 years ago to be correct.
I was surprised to see a lot of trying to run the canadian team out of the rink attitude which looked chippy and took away the Swedish play to advantage canada

They have to get De La Rose an effective cyclin line and let Nylander run the second line, like just give him the puck every chance they get...and they will have a good top 6...Not as good as last years but still pretty good.
