Canada/USA is the one that stand behind the only league that stop players from big international tournaments.

It's also the biggest league with the most money and most prized trophy in the sport at stake. The WJC is a tournament for teenagers. If other leagues want to release players for it, fine, but it's a ridiculous thing to demand of pro leagues who're paying players to help achieve goals such as making the playoffs. Nevermind that every year it's Canada who's always hit the most in terms of elite players not available.

That's debatable. Other than that I agree about the NHL, but not the AHL. If a player is not a NHL regular he should be playing at the WJC. So speaking of the Burakowski case what Washington is doing is just wrong.

Yes. It would have been different if he was getting lots of ice time, and was an important part of the team. But not releasing him in case there is any injuries? ****ing ridiculous.

I agree about the AHL as well. The Burakovsky example though is borderline because the team said they're calling him back up in a few days, which will be before the WJC even starts. Still, I think they should have loaned him given the circumstances.

When I say "trophy" I mean what we almost always mean when referring to sports, which is a big ol' thing with a plaque on it. An Olympic Gold Medal is also a trophy in the more general sense, but I didn't have that in mind with my comment. My point being that the Stanley Cup is by far more important than the championships of the other leagues in question. With respect to the Olympics, I'd say the Cup is also more important here in North America, but it's the opposite in Europe.

It is not just NHL that pay players a salery!! But so what if they are they biggest league, how is that an excuse for that? If anything that put more pressure on them to honor the national teams and behave correctly so it do not damage the sport. Plus it is not just WJC that NHL stop the players from.

Plus in other sports where canada/usa dont have the biggest league, the biggest league(s) release the players to the national team whenever they call pretty much, for exampel, soccer/football.

Well whos fault is that? Who is it that decide that they should not be in the team? Canada and USA themself! So Canada can NEVER make that excuse because they have make that decsionen themself, but other countries have not been able to take that decesion themself.

If you dont care about your national team, fine, but at least let the other countries players play for their national team.

Of course other leagues pay a salary. The NHL has the most money invested in its teams, though. If you don't think that is a factor then you're being naive. Teams pay tens of millions of dollars in an effort to make the playoffs and win a Cup. They aren't going to hurt their chances by loaning an important player to a tournament for teenagers.

The idea that a few players not being in the world juniors damages the sport is incredibly absurd. There have always been players held out of the world juniors because they're in the NHL, yet the sport is growing exponentially worldwide. It's not just the WJC you say... so you're now implying the NHL should release teams from its playoff rosters to play in the World Championship?

I don't know enough about soccer to comment. Do they release players during league play to play in international tournaments?

I'm not saying Canada should make any excuses about it, I'm saying they're the team that sacrifices the most yet you're blaming Canada and the USA.

This is where it becomes convoluted that you make this about Canada and the USA vs. the world. Do you think Team USA doesn't want players released to it as well? All players who sign an NHL contract, whether they're from USA, Canada, or Sweden, agree that it's up to their team if they're allowed to participate in the WJC. Apparently the players don't care that much because I don't hear about them trying to secure the right to play in the WJC during collective bargaining.

The whole Burakowski thing looks to me like they did it on purpose to legitimize their decision. I'm pretty sure he'd stay in the AHL if there wasn't the WJC looming.

Flyers fan here stopping in your thread to ask is Hägg playing tonight? Even though he should arrive in time Hägg has played AHL games 3 out of the last 4 nights. I was thinking Sweden might just rest him. Do you guys have any info on this?

Saw a Swedish movie yesterday - it was about an avalanche in the French Alps and the husband ran away and didn't protect his wife and kids - she was pissed that he wasn't more of a man. She was really attractive so the movie was ok -- otherwise it sucked. Like an Ingmar Bergman adventure movie.

Go Nylander!

I think I just got that movie recommended to me on IMDB the other day, seemed like it was middle-of-the-road type of movie so I didn't download it. An actual Ingmar Bergman adventure movie would be good though

Why is this? Many Eastern European countries are extremely proud of where they come from. But the Swedes who immigrate to N.A Swedish language is lost in like one generation.
For starters we're a western european country, I think? Maybe north  Definitely(holy crap this is a difficult word to spell) not eastern
