The good thing is we still have it in our hands. Let the players show their character. I'm just not sure I want to see it revealed.
So unless the Swiss get a point against Sweden, we need a regulation win.
Sweden has nothing to play for though, so Switzerland might get that point. But I just don't see us beating the Russians though.

Tie breaking is extremely confusing.

I think that this means, if Swiss lose in regulation + OT Win for Czech Republic would be this tiebreaker:

1. Switzerland 4 Points (Reg win vs Czech, SOL vs Denmark)
2. Denmark 3 points
3. Czech 2 Points

So I'm confused, I think this means Switzerland and Denmark advance because none of them are tied, more specifically Denmark and the Czechs.

So I believe the required criteria for them to advance is:

Regulation win vs Russia, nothing else matters.

OT win vs Russia, Swiss force OT or win. And this is what confuses me, is the tiebreaker really this ****ing stupid that the Swiss getting another point is then only requires them to get a OT win?

It's not well explained, I agree. If I understood it correctly, if we beat Russia in OT and Switzerland loses in regulation we'd all be tied for 4 points. Tie breaker would then be the following: points from games amongst tied teams, goal difference from games amongst tied teams, goals scored (from games amongst tied teams) etc.

EDIT: Yes you're right. It looks like that, doesn't it? We'd get relegated, despite having more wins, but fewer points :amazed::amazed:

I don't either. But then again, we did beat Canada 4-3 for the first time in 20 years last year. Then there was that year that we had to beat a "strong" nation to play in the QF and we beat USA 5-2. So it's possible, but I agree, highly unlikely.

It's still possible for us to finish 2nd in the group though and play Slovakia in the QF: if we beat Russia in regulation and Sweden beats Switzerland in regulation. That would give us a two way tie for second place with Russia (5 points each) that we'd win. Russia would come 3rd, and Switzerland would play in the relegation round because they lost to Denmark (both teams would be tied for 4 points).

What a crazy tournament

Haha thats quite a fun scenario. I dont like the one that is coming almost inevitably though... (relegation against the Germans)

Ruzicka just mentioned in an interview that he has sat down with Prerost and discussed the team but that he wouldn't get involved more directly.

Zápasy i tréninky chci vidět, samozřejmě si řekneme nějaké věci. Víc do toho ale vstupovat nemíním, mám svých problémů a starostí dost."

Well, at least something. Just hope Prerost was listening very carefully and taking notes.

He'd need a lot of paper for that. :sarcasm:

But yes, it is at least something, I'm glad to see he's getting outside input.

Ruzicka talking to him changes nothing. Its too little too late. Wont make a difference.
The only way we win this game is if Vanecek stands on his head. And I don't see that happening. But if he does, his horrible display from the rest of the tournament would be definitely forgotten!

Gotta love your team. Never give up :)

:yo:

Looks like that meeting with Ruzicka really might have paid off. They were even talking about it during the TSN broadcast. Always good to get an outside perspective.

Now let's hope we beat Slovakia and don't repeat what we did last year when we beat Canada and then lost to Germany 3-0......

Sorry, but you won´t get me to hope that :D

Amazing team effort. From the beginning of the match it was seen how much our players want to win this. Why the hell they ALWAYS wait for this till the very last moment?

Pastrnak was awesome.

Totally expect a quartefinal loss against Slovakia though. That's also typical czech

Little late but Happy New Year everyone :)

If there's one thing I've noticed with this year's team (more so than perhaps the last few years) is that we seem to have become much better at blocking shots, putting sticks into passing lanes and forcing turn-overs. This is something that stands out to me the most.

Czech losing to Slovakia? When did that become typicall?

Hi all... this is a bit off-topic and I'd like to apologize for that, But this may be my best opportunity to get the info I'm looking for...

A number of years ago I started putting together a set of hockey cards for my son. (This was when he was first born... now he's 7!!) This was a set that I had developed myself, and it features autographs of Bruins players. The thing about the set was that it featured everything from Hall-of-Famers to 4th line pugilists.

I would create the cards and mail them to the players for signatures. (Some of you may partake in the TTM hobby)

Anyways - one of the players I REALLY wanted for the set was Vladimir Ruzicka. I made one up and sent it care of the HC Slavia Praha, hoping it might find its way to him, but no luck.

I was wondering if any of you closer to the action might know how to get in touch with the man? I'd try sending to the team again, but I'm afraid that coming from the US, it would just get lost in the shuffle again.

Any suggestions?

I meant beating strong opponent and then losing to weaker one (on paper) by underestimating or whatever :)

Anyway, best of luck. It'll be fun game to watch :)

Vladimir Ruzicka doesn't work for Slavia anymore, so that one is out of question. I would suggest you doing this: 1) He is a headcoach of our NT so try to send email to our association and ask them - [email protected]
2) He also works as an advisor for czech team called Piráti chomutov, so just contact their PR on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/officialpiratichomutov or ask them on this site http://www.piratichomutov.cz/otazky.asp?od=Q&kat=dinda (but you would need to register to do that).
Anyway, if you'll try to contact Piráti Chomutov, just be sure to specify that you want a signature from current czech coach Vladimir Ruzicka and not from his son, who has the exact same name and who plays for Chomutov :)

Hope it helps

According to an article I read, he's staying around the U-20 team until Saturday then heading off to watch some NHL games. He said he's off to Boston to watch an NHL game, so you might be able to catch him somewhere there.

Article is here: http://novy.hokej.cz/dvacitce-verim-rika-ruzicka-v-torontu-si-vzpomnel-na-stare-casy/5004757

Otherwise what helgo said :)

Are you able to watch TSN from the Czech Republic? If so, I'd really like to know how. There are a lot of poor live streams but I want the real thing.
Thanks

Hmm....well I stream it. I use streamhunter.tv or firstrowtvsports.bz. You can find HD streams on the second website if you look hard enough :)

Hope that helps.
