And two years ago people blamed Hockey Canada for inviting 4 goalies to camp because it showed a lack of trust in the front-runners. I'm not trying to homer for Fucale here, I'm just saying both methods have failed over the last two years.

people are so quick to forget, its ridiculous, i feel bad for HC cause they will never win against some of these minds on here. Not like they care..

Personally I'd have zero problem with that. I don't see how that kinda stuff puts the team in trouble. Doesn't even compare to the kind of problems players like Ritchie bring every year taking a bunch of penalties when they're not getting suspended (let alone being scratched as well for disciplinary reasons).

You don't have a problem with a player fighting with a coach? Cause that's what could happen when a player has this attitude. Stuff like that can break a team apart.

My best guess (and this a pure guess) is that Ritchie went out of his way to make it known to Hockey Canada that he's not going to be a distraction if he's picked, while Ho-Sang just kept on trucking with his cavalier attitude.

Coaches/Management have a lot more tolerance for players who make plays on the ice that are questionable than ones who do stuff off the ice that is questionable.

Wonder why Crouse was invited over guys like Strome, Marner, Merkley ect. I know he's a highly regarded prospect in his own right but was it just his size, just seems like inviting another Ritchie

What about when Canada won 5 straight Gold Medals, or when they had a medal in 14 straight years starting from 1998? They always brought more than two goalies to camp. One 4th place finish should not have changed that.

This naming two goalies right off the bat is not a good strategy. Fucale was not the second coming of Patrick Roy last year as well. Forget about two years ago, and focus on the 14 years prior to that, including the 5 straight Gold Medals. Last year- this same strategy failed as well.

A player that is a gregarious, larger than life type personality may not fit into a two week window where it is key to get everyone on the same page. Skill is one thing, team concept is another.

If team was picked on skill alone he would be there.

He was put in that situation once at the U17 and did just fine. I doubt it would be any different at the U20. Invite him to camp and see how he does.

What has he done since then to make Hockey Canada think he would? It's up to Ho-Sang to do everything he can to prove to Hockey Canada that he'd not be distraction and would be able to play within the system they are coaching (even if he disagrees).

The quotes you posted don't really make it seem like he would be "fighting" the coach, I think basically he's stated he wants to have clear lines of communication both ways. No issue there, if he put it more eloquently it wouldn't have gone so far, but he's a teenage boy, so instead of openlines of communication, he says we can call eachother idiots. I sincerely doubt he'd be yelling at the coach that he's an "idiot", but again, I don't know him.

and it's up to Hockey Canada to put the best team on the ice. Canada has struggled scoring any goals when trailing in games because they always bring too many "players you need to win games" or "big bodies that go to the net" that can't score when they need goals.

Not saying there should be 13 players from the Q in camp but not buying one second there's that many players better than Dauphin and Roy among others. But anyways, it's the same every year. I can buy that stuff once in a while but it's the same every year now. No matter how well the team does at the SSS, Memorial Cup, draft there will always be excuses. Kinda got tired over the years, simply got used to it. Even with the young players coming up, I'll believe it when I see it. I'm all for taking the best players but people from the OHL and WHL would be yelling like crazy if year after year their players weren't selected.

Besides, Hicketts, whom I absolutely love as a player, didn't have to be taken in the top 100 to be in camp. He simply had to perform. Kids like LeBlanc could get some love from HC once in a while too.

But don't you think the fact that NHL teams aren't going to the QMJHL well often is a pretty good rationale for HC not doing the same?

Jeremy Roy is going to be there next year, it's not very often they take underage defensman, Ekblad withstanding.

I haven't watched much of Chicoutimi this year, but I fail to see what would make Dauphin a "snub". Who would you have left out in his place? To be honest, I'm glad HC didn't just bring francophones because there will be games played in MTL.

I'm Canadian, and I just want to see the best team, and in my ignorant opinion, I don't think the francophone/QMJHL players are part of that.

The problem hicketts is facing is that morissey, theodore, and bowey are just as good on offense as him if not better, and they are much better in their own end even Theodore.

He's always been a shutdown D first, the big point production is new this year. He's 5th in the entire WHL in scoring, and leads his team. 1st in D scoring in the WHL, 6 points a head of #2. How the heck did you come to form either of these opinions?

I bolded the key words. Best team doesn't always mean bringing the "most skilled" players.

Basically Ho-Sang dug his own hole with all his disciplinary issues, and quotes. He either needs to play at so well that Hockey Canada can't ignore his talent (which he hasn't) or go out of his way to show that he's not going to be distraction (which it looks like he hasn't).

Ho-Sang's attitude reminds me of Kesler's, when things get tough he becomes a distraction.

According to Bob McKenzie Hockey Canada isn't looking to bring a traditional "Checking line" like they have in the past.

If Hockey Canada chooses the right team they will have more than enough players can take the puck and score (Fabbri, Virtanen, Domi).

Because goonish behaviour is encouraged when you're down 4-0 in the 3rd but scoring a highlight real goal in a 5-0 game and celebrating makes you a hotdog and is frowned upon here.

How funny would a Morin - Hicketts pairing be 6'7" behemoth paired with the 5'8" smurf

In all honesty i'd love for Hicketts to make the team it would be a great underdog story the only problem is he would have to completely outplay guys like Heatherington, Theodore, Bigras & Sanheim because if there even close HC will probably go with the bigger guy with the higher draft pedigree.

Is it really too much to ask to bring in at least the top 5-6 players from each league? Just last year, Mantha was good enough to be CHL MVP, barely made the team as the bubble guy. Duclair now in the NHL was having an MVP caliber year, again among the top players in the league. Same for Poirier. Gauthier-Leduc was having a monster year as a 19 year old. Not even invited to camp. Not saying they should all make the team. I understand that each league has players that should be there but can't make it in the end. But it frikin sucks that the Q is always in that situation.

Yesterday we were talking about Fucale. I asked people how come guys like Virtanen, Fleury and so on don't have to put numbers on the board in order to make your rosters. If we talk about role players performing, don't tell me Laplante isn't having a better year than Crouse in a checking role. Dauphin is having a very good year offensively on top of being a good 2-way player. Not to mention his team sucks offensiely. Yet there's a bunch of lower scoring role players invited to camp before him.

I know you'll always find a rationale behind not taking those players. But IMO there's no reason the top 5 or 6 players shouldn't at least be invited to camp.

Depends on the size of the camp. To me it shouldn't matter what league the player is playing in. And we shouldn't be limiting to the CHL too, there are good players in the NCAA some year (Toews, Turris) who deserve to play in the World Jrs. Hockey Canada should just take the best players no matter what league.

People still buy that stuff? They say that every year. Just look at players' size next to their name.

...

besides, best team = no offense for a bunch of people. There's plenty of 2-way players already on the team. Why not bring in an offensive specialist once in a while.

it's a given that people say that. Their league isn't taking the hit every year. Easy to say when you always have 10+ players in camp and on the team.

Been there before & has a higher draft pedigree (just guessing though)

I don't get the "been there before" bit. Brodeur has been to the OC with Canada before, should they call him up?

Also, you shouldn't pick people on where they're drafted. If they're better then pick them based on ability right now. Not historical.

You should be asking why comrie over jarry not Fucale.
