Craig Button's Team Canada Roster:

Domi - McDavid - Reinhart
Bennett - Petan - Lazar
Dal Colle - Horvat - Dickinson
Klimchuk - Gauthier - Baptiste
Ritchie

Morrissey - Ekblad
Fleury - Bowey
Morin - Nurse
Theodore

Fucale
Desrosiers

Forwards - how do you leave Duclair and Fabbri off the roster after their great summer camps, both coming off great seasons and Fabbri with a great Memorial Cup playoff. Virtanen is also surprising to be left off, I think Baptiste, Gauthier, Dickinson, are left off the team for Virtanen, Fabbri, Duclair. Ritchie moves up on the line-up instead of either Klimchuk or Bennett. Although it matters on how they're performing at the time of the Olympics.

Defence - I agree with the players on the roster.

Goaltending - Agreed.

They will be there on Dec 26. out of that forward group Button listed, 3-4 won't be available come December camp.

Yeah. Button bolded Domi, Reinhart and Lazar as forwards who'll be in the NHL and Ekblad as the only defenceman in the NHL.

With Duclair, Fabbri, Virtanen into the line-up replacing the players in the NHL, I wonder who'll replace Gauthier, Klimchuk as some players who I think won't make the team. I think someone like Bleackley or McCann will push for a spot on the December Camp.

I hope Klimchuk is there. He showed some great chemistry with McDavid at the U18. But given McDavid's Hockey IQ, he could make anybody look good..but still, players who have played together in the past, played well and achieved results should not be overlooked.

As for Gauthier... He is going to have to show a lot in the lead up to December camp.

I think one of Klimchuk, Baptiste or Dickinson will be gone atleast along with Gauthier.

Coach liked Baptiste so I think he has the edge but Dickinson isn't a bad 4th line centre.

Klimchuk could be an option, as well as Ritchie (Ritchie-McDavid-Fabbri). I would also try Dal Colle next to McDavid, as he's a pure goal-scorer.

I also think - and hope - that Virtanes makes it :) he seems like a good, all-around forward to me.

Let's hope that this year the head honchos take the best players instead of using the quota system that was used the last couple of years. If the best players are all from one of the junior leagues take the best players.

you are being too polite in calling them this... chief dimwits is more applicable.

It isn't Winter Season, it's World Junior season. It isn't Christmas, it's the starting of WJC. It isn't New Years Eve, it's Canada vs USA!

If that's the way they select the team it will be a surprise to say the least.

What will be an interesting sidenote to me will be how McDavid performs in this tournament.

There will be a lot of pressure on the kid. he may very well go into the thing as our number 1 C and go to guy,the draft and competition with eichel is ominous, it's at home in front of a lot of anxious and expectant fans in Canada's two biggest markets in a hockey crazed and WJC crazed country who have been told he is the next great offensive star from home. That's a TON of heat, can he handle it and lead the team? If he can it will go a long way to answering the question of whether he is legit or not. I don't think he has to set the world on fire but he does have to play very well and make some big plays in big games. It's a lot to ask of him when you think of it, Crosby in his draft year played very well but he was on a stacked team, a unit that is unquestionably the best team that there ever was at the WJC. He wasn't even our go to guy that year. Mcdavid will have it a lot rougher.

The real deals usually come through when it matters most though, his performance will tell us a lot. A guy like Eichel can basically just go out and play, Mcdavid can't, people should not forget that this tournament.

He's got a ton of pressure

Agreed. It's going to be interesting. Hopefully, he gets the right linemates and builts a solid chemistry with them.

Atleast he said they'll bring players who can play 4 lines and the best players. He's saying the right things I hope they do the right things aswell and don't bring grinders and players like Rychel, Leier, Anderson.

TSN released a video today with Ryan Jankowski where he talks about what kind of team he is bringing this year and I think you will all like the answer he gives. It includes, "In the last two years our bottom six had scored 2 goals"..... :):):):):):):handclap::handclap::handclap:

YAY

I remember being encouraged by some of the things he said last year in the summer and leading up to the Malmo tournament....in the end it was all just noise. So, we've heard it all before from him and from the people he replaced...but until I see it, it is all just PR and noise. Anything short of an appearance in the gold medal game, he and a few others should just move on to find other things to do.

What are the chances Drouin cracks the TB top 6? I doubt he'll play bottom 6, Drouin will probably have to beat someone like Kucherov because the top 6 includes, Stamkos, Flippula, Johnson, Palat, Callahan then Kucherov/Connolly/Panik/Brown/Killorn.

He shouldn't be in junior but I think he might go back.

you trade 1 or 2 of the highlighted players. Drouin's junior career is over..time to move on. I'm not one to usually push junior eligible players to the NHL, and I don't necessarily believe Drouin's game is 100% NHL ready, but he has to work those issues out and become that at the NHL level.

I would love to see him get another crack at the World Juniors though.

Yeah, that ain't happening.

keeping on eye on junior eligible players at the various NHL camps, it looks as though up to 10 teenagers could be starting the season in the pros...if they all stick beyond the 9 game mark, then we may have to reevaluate the team's medal hopes come December 26. (those 10 include Mackinnon, Drouin, Ekblad and Reinhart)..but if we lose more of the remaining 6 to the NHL... then ouch, it will certainly be an uphill battle.

If lazar, reinhart, bennet, horvat and domi all make the nhl. Who do you guys think replaces them?

Any chance connor bleackley makes the team?

I don't think McDavid should make it, he was so bad this year. Totally invisible in the 3rd periods when they needed goals

LOL. What?????

Have you taken a second to look around and see what other top players that have made the team at 16 have done?

Making it at that age is rare. They call it a 19 year old's tournament, because generally even 18 year olds struggle.

There is absolutely no way McDavid doesn't make it, and play on the first line, for that matter.

It appears the battlefield position for our entry is rapidly deteriorating.
