2014 Yankee Stadium Ranger Games - Part II

Definitely was a fun time. I really didn't feel cold except my hands and feet were freezing. I ended up putting the hand warmers in my shoes and that helped my feet and buying hot chocolate helped my hands (I didn't want to drink it because it felt so nice to hold). I sat in 231, the view was good, but I felt like when the puck was on the opposite end of the ice it get a little difficult to see especially when there was a lot of traffic in front.

The atmosphere wasn't the best, but the third period really was great especially after the Rangers took the lead. Lots of back and forth between fans, but I didn't see anything that went over the line. I think this was the first time I went to a Rangers/Islanders game where I saw no fights. I guess no one wanted to do stupid crap when it was so cold and there were cops everywhere. Anyway, it was definitely a night that I'll always remember. One of those once in a lifetime things.

CeeLo getting booed and no one being into him at all was pretty funny. Also there as a guy walking out of the bathroom with a fur coat and someone goes "Hey, it's CeeLo!" Everyone started laughing. Also a few random "We want CeeLo" chants. It was almost a running gag of the night. I kind of felt bad for the guy, but I'm sure he got paid well to do 10 minutes of music.
 
For Full disclosure I am a STH with 6 seats. I had only planned on going to tonight but I bought both games as was required and sold the Sunday game for $100 profit each right after the tickets became available. My seats cost me $229. I have a family of 5 and we planned on all going tonight. My 10 year old was sick and and I couldn't take hime so I sold 3 seat at a little more than 1/2 price last Friday.
I have a family friend who works for the Islanders as a mid level executive who called me late Sunday night saying the Islanders have to sell almost 7K seats for the game. Apperently 50 K seats were put out for the games with the Rangers commiited to a minimum of 20 k the Islanders also 20 K and the league hoping to sell the Super Bowl crowd most of the leftover. The Rangers sold their allotment right away but the Isles only sold about 13K. The NHL did want to get embarrassed so the Islanders gave to any youth hockey player on Long Island what most of us payed $200 for for free on Tuesday. I am actually talking the same commerative ticket . I called a friend of mine whose son plays youth hockey out of the Rinx and he had 44 hard tickets to this night game in 414 that he got for for free. I was annoyed but **** happens. What really set me off was after tonights game there were some disabled adults with their counselors walking down the stairs very slow. The disabled adults had winter coats on but some were wearing sneakers and were not dressed overly warm. I asked one of counselors about the game and she told me someone dropped off about 30 free tickets tonight.
I don't want to blame the Islanders or the NHL and I had a great time tonight but the tickets were overpriced and 2 games in NYC was 1 too many.
The announced crowd tonight was 50K but how many actually paid?

What row were you in? I was in 231, row 13.
 
had a blast at both games.. ill give a full opinion tomorrow, but the one thing i was really happy to see was there was no stupid stuff from the fans (fighting, etc, at least from what i saw).. everyone ribbed each other a bit but i didnt see any fights, everyone enjoyed being there and had a great time
 
Was that the most packed the bars across the street have ever been? My friend who's a Yankees ticket holder thought so.....

I've never had a problem every time I've driven to the stadium. Yesterday I arrived in the deck across from gate 4 at around 5:00 and left 15 minutes after the game was over. Took less than a minute to get both in and out. Guess you have to know what you're doing and/or be lucky.

And to note, there definitely wasn't 50,000+ there yesterday. You could have sat in any section you wanted. Both games I had tickets in the bleachers and just found some open seats and sat there.

Can't say I am surprised. I agree on the prices, but not on 2 games. If it were 2 weekend games, they would have done better. If the prices were something like 100-125 for the upper tier, 150-200 for the middle tier, and 50-75 for field level, they would have sold out both games and had a better secondary market. Yes, the NHL does care about the secondary market, because a strong secondary market helps fuel primary sales. You would have seen more Rangers STH's buying and using both games instead of going to one and trying to sell the other.

You just said you sold 3 seats for $100 profit, AND it seems like you're complaining you had to buy both games and people got tickets for free. So which is it?

That's the nature of the beast, especially in this market. You weren't forced to buy the tickets. Accept it. Sorry your son/daughter got sick and couldn't attend but things like that happen. I lost $700+ and ate a ticket (all from the islanders game) and I'm not complaining because I purchased the tickets, yet I was able to suck it up and have a great time anyway.
 
My buddies shamed me into going. I haven't put a dime into anything James Dolan related except my cable bill for personal reasons, but I was sold on this being a different type of experience.

Paid $120 bucks for a bleacher seat, and 33$ for a round of 3 beers. Price gouging.

It was a cool experience, but once the novelty wore off and I got into the game, I found myself watching the action via the scoreboard and wondering why I wasn't doing this from the comfort and warmness of my couch.

Buddy of mine who works for the Knicks came into my office not far from Penn yesterday with a stack of tickets for last nights game that he was told to give away. He must have had 50-100 tickets to hand out.
 
Potvin sucks is getting old though. Of course you tend to hear it more than "Let's Go Rangers." A large portion of the people at the games weren't even alive when the play happened or probably don't even remember what the played looked like if they were. I know it's a "tradition", but the guy has as many cups as the Rangers in its entire history and is an HOFer, it's hard to say that he sucks. Also, it looks like a pretty routine and clean hit. I mean honestly if that hit happened today, there probably wouldn't have even been a thread on it in the main boards.

$33 for 3 beers sounds about right for Yankee Stadium. Not price gouging at all.
 
Where can I find the hats and scarves? Cant seem to find them anywhere now....

Edit: I mean the knit hats the players had.

It costs 60$ for a keg of bud light. Probably less with the bulk that Yankee Stadium buys.

It is price gouging and has been for a long time. Just because we are all used to it doesnt change it.

Ive been a part of many corporate pricing sessions and ones that end with price increases almost all invariably end with someone muttering some form of "They'll get used to it."
 
pro sports = price gouging, lol

They put you in a confined space where if you leave you can't come back and know that you're going to get thirsty & hungry in those 2-3 hours. So they say bend over and you say how far!
 
It's almost as if you're not entitled to cheap alcohol. Heh, who knew? :rolleyes:

Clearly, if you voluntarily paid the high prices for the beer, it was a mutually beneficial transaction. By definition.
