I'd be happy for the guy, for sure. Besides, it'd be great ammo for my anti-Bylsma narrative.

They have a horseshoe up there a**es. Canada played bunnies and struggled at that, But they play the schedule they are given.

If the U.S. wins gold I want to beat Canada along they way. If not so be it.

Yeah, assuming the US and Canada both win, the US will be the first "real" opponent that Canada will have had. I do respect Finland, and I won't be surprised if they squeak one out against Russia, but I still thought they were the 5th best team heading into this tournament. We'll see if Canada is hurt by not playing up in competition yet. The US had a battle with Russia and probably came out a better, closer, and more confident team because of it. Canada hasn't had that same unifying win as of yet. That's not to say they won't beat the US just based on pure talent, but I think that could be a factor in that game.

Well, is it that hard to put yourself in our shoes? What if DK got the winning goal against Canada and eliminated them?

I suspect you'd be happy for DK as a B's fans, but very disappointed for your country.

I don't have much sympathy for you in regard to Crosby. Think I don't have mixed emotions rooting for Kesler and Pacioretty? It's like watching Bin Laden go off a cliff in your new M3///.

If need be, root for the front of the jersey, not the back.

That's what it's all about. I'm a Bruins fan through and through but for these 2 weeks it's about Canada for me. I don't care if the winning goal is scored by Crosby, Subban, or Kunitz. Just win baby. Conversely, I'd be pretty PO'd if Krejci or Loui scored the goal that knocked out Canada. Then, all will be forgotten in 1 week when the NHL picks up again.

I'd be very happy for Krejci, I love the guy. I'd root for him the rest of the tournament. But I'd be very disappointed that the US got knocked out. I definitely would not be mad at him, no way. He's playing for his country and he's one of, if not the best player from the Czech Republic. It's not like he's lashing out at his fans.

Kind of like your last point, I root for the US team because I'm American. In an international tournament, emotional attachments to players from your team are put aside. I'd much rather prefer to see them win a Stanley Cup together. But I still support Krejci, Tuukka, Bergy, and Loui, and I supported Z. I'll be happy for them if they win, but I could really care less if they do. There are no Bruins on the US team but I'm still all-in for them. Don't know how to put it, I support them 100% as individuals, don't support their teams. Weird explanation, but whatever. If it seems like I contradicted myself about 12 times during this post, sorry.

Woof.

P.S. I still haven't figured out why I'm supposed to hate anyone on that list? Kessel for getting traded and bringing us a stellar return? Orpik for not fighting Thornton and in return getting knocked the F out? Kesler for letting us beat up on his team on national television?

I actually enjoy this US team, they're a pretty gritty bunch. Pain in the ass to play against guys like Backes, Brown, Kesler, Paccioretty, Oshie, etc.

Although I'm not too familiar with Latvia, Canada should win this game, and the U.S. should have no trouble against Pavelec and the Czech Republic with all the talent they have, setting up a great semifinal match-up.

I don't understand when people say it was a brutal call on Mezaros. Argue the rule as much as you want (I personally hate when that it's a rule), but it's the most blatant and black-and-white call in hockey when you break a guy's stick.

Glad to see Krech have a good game. That was an absolute beauty he scored.

Get some rest Z, you're really gonna need it.

30 thousand foot view...

Canada : lack O zone penetration scheme that works consistently as they are attacking on the boards and not the middle ... a bit of a prevent offense... they go wide which lets the D pinch a bit more as they have the space to cover on the counter. This will open up a deep pass outbreak if they are countered...something the Finns couldn't pull off as they didn't have anyone up in the middle ice cheating a bit. They do this with a team with Kessel/Pavs/Kane and they are going to see big transition pressure.. D gap and lane coverage is pretty good. O zone... little net front presence and little cycle in the danger zones (between the dots...) Best players on the ice are Weber, Benn, Piets... Carter is hot from the red-line. Crosby is taking lanes like on a 1 on 5 game. Way too much perimeter work and not enough movement in the O zone to create lanes.

Finland were playing a 2+3 system with 3 guys deep and they stacked the blueline with one guy back as they collapsed to the line. Makes it hard to go dump and chase because the guy back has time for the outlet while the 4 guys at the line are effectively running a pick interference play. They had a smart game to protect but as we saw they could not counter because all their guys are down too low. Felt like watching soccer (or the Devils in the 90's...) This is why I thought a Lucic / Simmonds would have come in useful as both can just plow thru near the boards and create more space for a quick drop pass for the guy cutting to the middle. Add to that the shallow Olympic o-zone and with their speed they could punish the deep defender on the forecheck and make them think twice about the next outlet. If you can't do that then basically you need to work the defensive side of the blueline like on the PP to create motion and then pick your spot but that's not something people are trained to do in the NHL as it is high risk / reward.

Next time Babcock should just tell the guys to do a hard chip off the end boards that will bounce back and crash to the dot to try and gain possession. The boards look pretty "bouncy" and that would be an effective way to counter the deep defender as he couldn't corral the puck behind the net and stall. Additionally they will draw obstruction penalties like no tomorrow. Other than that they need to cannonball the first defender and drop pass off the side boards to the guy behind who can cut off the sidewall to the middle. Need to time it right to avoid a penalty but against a 2+3 those are a couple tactics they could look at. As it stood they just waited for an error to get into the zone but that's a high risk proposition if it's the only option taken.

little worried about team USA targeting Krejci and trying to take him out. Oshi and Backes are hard hitters, There are no friends of the Bruins on Team USA. Czech all the way!!!

That hurts, man.

I have Canada's back vs anyone else in this tourney other than the USA. Especially b/c of Bergy.

You'd rather lose to the Czechs? Don't you want to see North America fight it out knowing we collectively play the superior game? Or you're just feelin the heat from down south a wittle bit too much, huh? Last time had to be scary for you, who could blame you?

So'k. I understand. You had our backs where it counted most, Canada. So, I forgive you.

How could you be pissed at Krejci for that ?

I like seeing our B's play well and NOT get hurt.

May the best team win....and yes I love my country .

Looked like the stick snapped from the shot, since it broke right on his hand and the stick on stick was lower.

Honestly if Czech were in any bracket but the US I would be rooting for them. So if they upset the US then I will root for them to win a medal-although not sure I would root for them over Canada.

Honestly I am mostly rooting against Russia and am neutral on Sweden.

I have no issues with Kessel (although I find some of the gifs and pokes at him funny). He is speedy and a good scorer-and Boston wasn't working out for him.

I don't care for Kesler, Orpik or Patches-for various reasons to do with their style of play.

He's an easy guy to laugh at sometimes, but he is a terrific player. He was a virtual non-factor during the last olympics, but has matured exponentially since then and is now one of the best players in the tournament. I've hooted on him in the past as much as anyone, but I respect what he can do on the ice.

I'm rooting for the US against Krejci's team because I want to see the Canada-US game. But had Sobotka been playing I'd be rooting for the Czech Republic. I've spent more time in Prague than probably 40 of the US states and Texas I wish would just go away anyways.

I liked SOB, too. Still do, anyone capable of empathy should feel for a guy w/ that kind of injury, and the cruelty of the timing. Basically robbed of getting a chance to represent his country on the world's biggest stage.
