Chara will get 8 days of rest, that's good. Feel bad for him, but he did the best he could for a team with very low expectations.

The Czechs aren't pushovers, but the US should be in the semis and, at the very least, be playing for a bronze. A loss in the quarterfinals would be a big underachievement. It would also deny everyone a US vs. Canada showdown.

Yeah I think Sweden and Canada have pretty easy match ups-anything can happen but Canada and Sweden should be fine with their draws.

Russia and US can't take their match ups lightly-Finland doesn't have much fire power but they have good goaltending and defense. Czech is deep at center but their defense is suspect.

Refs didn't call anything early on when Czechs had like 4 penalties not called to Slovakia's maybe 1. Then they call one penalty for Czechs and start calling everything on Slovakia (didn't watch the game after the first period, but just guessing, since Slovakia had 5 times as many penalties when trying to moung a comeback). Typical Vinnerborg.

Finland's defence is their weakness, and has always been (going into these games). Meanwhile their offence has put up 5 goals per game, with injuries to key players.

Yeah, I would be surprised if the US loses, but I won't be shocked if Finland gets by Russia. I felt like Finland was maybe the 5th best team going into this thing, but I also think that Russia has just been okay after that US game. It felt like they threw everything at the US in that game, and still came away with the loss. Maybe a little deflating? The last two games have only been okay for them...not as much jump as you might expect from them. Finland isn't as talented as they used to be, but they will know how to keep the game close, and try and capitalize on their chances. I would favor Russia, but I won't be shocked if Finland takes it. It should be a battle.

Any talk of speed skating being dropped as a sport since it's just one country competing with itself? :sarcasm:

If this were a speed skating forum maybe people would care to discuss it more. :sarcasm:

I don't care particularly about the sport, and there are probably other sports that deserve to be in the Olympics just as much if not for the power of tradition. So why not?

Yep, Canada gets a layup in the quarterfinals.

They have a horseshoe up there a**es. Canada played bunnies and struggled at that, But they play the schedule they are given.

If the U.S. wins gold I want to beat Canada along they way. If not so be it.

Wouldn't surprise me if Russia loses to Finland. They haven't impressed me so far, and Finland's goalie (whichever one plays) can definitely steal a game.

USA and Canada should win comfortably and meet in the semis.

Sweden should win, but I wouldn't be shocked if Slovenia gives them a good fight.
