I have really been in advocate of keeping Gaborik up until now, but dang it just move the guy. Any decent offer to get him out of Columbus. Past couple games I have been focusing a lot on him while he's out there, and I have to agree with Porty and others, he just doesn't fit with this team. When you consider we have Comeau in the press box and Jack Skille in Springfield, at times tonight I would have done anything to see one of those guys in there, especially in the 2nd period. We were sorely missing the physical presence Comeau brings to the table and Gaborik was more of a pylon than anything.

I think he helps them get in, if they get in. I have to think he's good for a few more goals this season and there may be truth to the idea that he clears space for others to work due to teams keying on him. I was hoping he'd be more of a factor in his return (and he has scored a goal this week) but I agree with those who say he's pretty easy to separate from the puck.

There are other players who could help them get in more than Gabby, but I think he's enough of a factor to not give up for low picks.

Nice take. Don't know if I agree, but get where you're coming from.

I can't believe this dude would only be worth low picks though. Damn for what we gave up to get him. That would be some weak sauce lol.

I'm not as low on Gaborik as some of you guys are. Yeah, he's a non-factor physically and looks like he's floating much of the time, but he's one of our few players who can actually make tape-to-tape passes in the O-zone and obviously has a high skill set. He knows his way around the ice, too. Actually, he's always been like that. The difference is that he simply isn't explosive anymore.

Eh, beats the hell out of the Penguins giving up two 2nd's for Douglas Murray.-

Gaborik-Anisimov-Foligno line leads this team in scoring after the break.
Arty had 1 goal in 16 games prior to the Olympics break.
Then you put him next to Foligno (who's stats were padded by playing with Joey according to some posters) and Gaborik (who's washed out and doesn't worth more than 4th rounder). And Arty scores 6 goals in 5 games. Gabby was really helpful on few of those. He's helpful so far.

I'm worried more if Horton is ever gonna find his next gear. He's signed for 6 more years, not 3 more month...

You are watching a different Gaborik than I am. I haven't seen him be helpful for much of anything.

mmm....Actually I see the new Anisimov line as:

Anisimov-Anisimov-Anisimov

Seriously...he's scoring power play, shorthanded any handed. Might be grasping at straws here.

Craig MacTavish is probably running around with his pants around his ankles, because Ales Hemsky has two goals tonight against the Senators. For a GM, timing is everything.

Also, went to the game tonight and Gaborik didn't really show too many signs of life. He needs to go. I also kept an eye on the front offices box to see if anything looked interesting. Have to say, I didn't see Jarmo on the phone much.

he's not back up to any kind of speed and is still tentative around the puck, but he drug the defender away from Arty to open things up for his goal...

He's still got a lot of work to do, and is still worth quite a bit...but i'm not really gonna be mad if we keep him...but we need to get a Dman and get better on back end...we were scrambling quite a bit tonight...

Fair enough. I think he is doing VERY little and doing nothing that someone else couldn't do.

The guy has played his 4th game after missing many moths of hockey. Gaborik is on every single Blue Jackets highlight from the 3rd period of tonight's game. He has as many points as Joey after the break. What did you people expect?

Where is Howson situated while all of this is going on?

R.J. Umberger said reports his relationship w Ryan Kesler may have had anything to do w Kesler not "approving" #CBJ are "totally wrong."

Aaron Portzline ‏@Aportzline 2m

Umberger: "If it helps our team, I'd take him in a minute. He's a great player. No doubt about it. For people to assume that, it's unfair...

Aaron Portzline ‏@Aportzline 1m

More Umberger: "I would defiinitely play with the guy. I've said hey to him a few times. We've put that stuff behind, really we have."

Yet more Umberger: "The reason people hate Ryan Kesler is because he's hard to play against. That's respect. I could definitely play w him."

Probably sticking his head out into the hallway and yelling, "Will you and Kevin shut up because some of us are TRYING TO DO SOME ACTUAL WORK HERE???????"

And then two minutes later, Lowe chases MacTavish back down the hall with a fire extinguisher, with both of them giggling like schoolgirls while Howson shakes his head slowly.

Yeah I don't see him doing much either, but can someone put together Anisimov's numbers with and without Gaborik going back to last year (or 2010 if you have the inclination)? Anisimov has always played better with Gaborik, and this was well known before Arty's recent streak (I remember the Dobb Fantasy report said buy buy buy on Anisimov when Gaborik comes back).

I hope Jarmo isn't just focusing on trading Gaborik for a defensemen. It would suck if a deal can't be reached involving Gaborik and Jarmo then decides to acquire a defensemen with other assets but time runs out. There's been times when a team reached a deal but the fax came in a couple minutes to late so the NHL denied the deal.

Well, to be honest, Gaborik being in front of the net in Toronto had a major effect on Arty's goal. Defender had to respect Gabby being there which gave Arty the space to score.

Gabby being on the ice makes the other team respect him. Not saying we must keep him, but teams still must pay attention to his presence.

That says to me that Umby is willing to forgive and forget. Doesn't say anything w/r/t Kesler's willingness to do so. Good on Umby, to be sure, but drawing conclusions w/r/t Kesler's state of mind based on that is a bit of a stretch IMO.

Not sure why the Kesler talk. despite the fact that he already said he would not come here, there are teams with legitimate Cup chances chasing him. If you are him, where would you go?

We are afraid that Gaborik doesn't fit here, yet the teams that are thought to be most interested in acquiring him - Anaheim, LA, and Boston - are big, aggressive, physical teams, are they not? Isn't that what we fancy the Jackets image to become? Why might he fit in with them and not here?

I'm not arguing for or against a trade, I'll leave that up to the FO and those here who know better than I, I'm just curious about the question of "fit." Must everyone on a "skill" team be skilled? Can't a skill player bring something needed to a blue-collar bunch? The teams mentioned above appear to think so, why don't we?

Don't try to introduce logic here. :sarcasm:
