I think the only question with Gabby besides where will he end up, is when will he go. Will it be before the game tonight or after?
You do realize that Nikitin is going to be a RFA and that you'll probably get similiar value in the offseason? Hell, you could very well get close enough for Gaborik's rights.
These guys aren't franchise players. You are making mountains out of mole-hills here.
I'm looking at a hockey deal for Nikitin, either now or the off season. Gaborik; another hockey deal at the deadline if I have another deal lined up and I need his cap space.
Otherwise, I'm all in for a playoff run.
To me, half a roster qualifies as "numerous." I know, too, that you stressed no playoff experience, but many of them have very limited experience.

So, then our roster has numerous players with playoff experience, right?
Hey, just popping over from the LA board. How would you guys feel about:
Gaborik (retaining 20%) and Prout
for
Greene, Vey, Oilers 2014 3rd. Plus conditional 5th if Clbs doesn't re-sign Greene, upgraded to conditional 1st if LA re-signs Gaborik and Greene is not re-signed BUT if both teams re-sign Gaborik and Greene respectively, no picks are exchanged.
At its core its a swap of UFA's, LA gets more offense, Columbus get more defense (which from chatter on the mains I think you were interested in). I don't know how highly Prout is valued, but for us he'd be a #7 for at least this season, and he's inexpensive going forward. Greene I THINK is what Prout may become, with tons of leadership and playoff experience, so if I'm right there would be incentive from Columbus to keep Greene around as a second or third pairing guy.
You guys get Vey to either slot in at C or RW, or put him on the farm if you have too many bodies.
A lot of this revolves around how good Prout is viewed to be, and I wasn't sure, so I attempted to balance it out with a draft pick, plus more if we re-sign Gaborik and you don't re-sign Greene.
How'd I do? Would love some feedback.

Nikitin is a UFA after the season, not RFA. We lose him for nothing if not signed or traded before July 1st.

I don't see the value now or for his rights prior to UFA being all that different. I'd just as soon keep him and see what happens. Even if you miss out on an asset, you gain potential goals and impact for the rest of the season. That's more important to me than the likely player + pick that he'd net. Neither of these types of picks or players help us now. Our reward for keeping him and not signing him is maybe a 3rd, maybe nothing, but we do gain considerable cap space - so even nothing is something.
It may be okay if you just look at value, but it doesn't really help us. I'd rather have Prout than Greene. The rest doesn't really do anything for us.
Some interesting things going on today. Cory Conacher and Joe Corvo on to waivers. Mike Weaver traded to Montreal for a 2015 5th. Things are starting to roll now, hopefully something happens so that we can all stop *****ing at each other.
I'm hearing some JJ to Boston chatter on Twitter. Anyone else hear this?
No but from Boston's perspective I think it makes sense. from ours, depends on the return. With Tyutin & Murray out though I think it is highly unlikely.

I think they're referring to the singer Jack Johnson playing a show in Boston in May. Not sure why they're saying rumor though as it's been confirmed.

The proposal is odd; but Vey would be a pretty good addition and worthy of a loaner deal involving Gaborik (the Gaborik we have this season). Vey is basically ready and pretty much fits what we are doing as a team.
There are others I would prefer over Green; but he's also a pretty decent player.
With Gaborik's cap hit and the lack of teams with cap space; that might be one of the better deals you'd see at the deadline. Prout would have to be removed from my perspective. He's probably going to be every bit as good as Vey in the long run. To finish this off, from the CBJ side, you'd probably want to include a lesser farm system player. Much lesser.

This is a new low for HF.
