Heatley is the exact type of reclamation project I would be afraid of. He is so slow that he would probably lose out to Richards in a foot race.

What if they traded Nash in order to fit Stastny? Center is the far more important position

Ya know, it always seems like the Rangers find a way to move a big piece to free up cap room when they really, really want a free agent. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that they would at least shop him.

The Rangers rebuilding the 4th line w/ cheap parts leads me to believe that we'll be actually making a big splash, as BRB feared.

Erhoff, Stastny, or God forbid... D Boyle.

Don't disagree on Moore, and don't think any one of these players is irreplaceable, but the entire fourth line may be gone. It took a few years to really get it right. And it's not your ordinary third line. They play 13 minutes a game...in the playoffs...against top lines...and they helped shut them down. Now they may need to find real mercenaries, who may have never played before, to fill that. For me, I don't mind line changes, but I look at the lines as pairs of two sometimes. Losing one, no biggie. Losing too. Oy. Losing three. Jeez! Then you may lose a second pair defenseman. Defensive defenseman. Who went against top lines very often. The unit of five was effective. Now you have a unit of one and the entire gameplan for AV changes since everything changes. Poo is the least of the worries out there, but his production needs to be replaced. Richards' also will need to be replaced. May all this will be answered by mid-September and social media is driving us nuts because we want answers today, but if the "fourth" line is totally gone, then next year's gameplan may change and perhaps they will be better off going top heavy and gaining offense because it may be their best bet.

I think a very good argument can be made that the 4th line was consistently the best line in the playoffs - the Brassard line gave them a run, but they disappeared for stretches. The 4th line made an impact seemingly every game.

That kind of depth is a HUGE reason why the team made it as far as they did. Its not easy to recreate. Im alarmed at how easy management thinks it is sometimes.

The official details:

DAL trades Alec Chiasson, Alex Guptill, Nicholas Paul and 2nd round pick in 2015 to OTT for Jason Spezza and Ludvig Karlsson.

I think they'd find a taker for Klein to free up 3 mill before they free up 8 w/ Nash. Just my opinion, though.

Damn.

Whatever angle you look it from gives you the same answer. Rangers could not risk the cap recapture penalty. That's why he's gone. That's why Erhoff was bought out as well.

Look at Zucc's interview w/ Hagelin.

He says something to the effect of:

"It's tough losing Richie, but it's a business. Now we can get our free agents the money they deserve"

Seems like they were under the impression that his cap space would be allocated to their friends and team mates that were up for new contracts.

You think? Chiasson is a nice piece, but Guptill and Paul are project wingers with size.

Really?

That's an awful return in my opinion. The no trade clause hurt his value, probably could've gotten a better deal elsewhere.

I really like Chiasson, and I think Guptill definitely has 2nd line upside. Sens also cleared a ton of space with this deal. 2nd rounder in a strong draft is a nice sweetener as well.

The market for centers is hurting because of Stastny. This is a very good return all things considered. NTC and only one year left on his deal.

I wonder how the locker room will feel about this.

They cut Richards to be able to resign their core players that were hitting the market. Now ALL of them are leaving.

As good or as bad as Richards was, cutting him was sold to the players (in particular) under the premise that this was a business and in order to keep everyone together they needed to get rid of him.

Now, they cut Richards and have let every FA they possibly could, walk.

They could even resign just half of them, like Stramlan and Boyle and letting D. Moore and Poo walk.

:shakehead

If the locker room can't survive this, then the Rangers did a bad job choosing its players, and staff. There are enough vets, many of whom have made it to the SCFs. At least one who has won a cup. Many who have played the international circuit. Many who are young but had success at other levels. If they can't be professional and go about their business on the ice, or didn't have a deep enough taste of the Finals (and many on this team have been to the playoffs a few times these last few seasons), then I really don't know what to say. McD, Girardi, Staal, Lundqvist, Stepan, Kreider and Hagelin all tasted the conference finals, followed by a second round exit, followed by the Stanley Cup finals...they all should have an edge, and experience, to get back, along with others on the roster, and who may join. I'm not worried about the locker room. I'm worried about what the roster will look like.
