Ottawa was going to get a less-than-impressive return. I wish it had been our less-than-impressive return.

Would not shock me to see us go after Ehrhoff or D. Boyle, now. Joe Thornton at the deadline?

Give me Iginla. If there's 1 FA I'd like, it would be him.

I understand the argument that we have enough RW's, but he's the guy I think this team would benefit the most from having.

Rebuild the 4th line. Lindberg on the left wing. Sign Joe Vitale to an 3 mill contract for 3 years to center the line. Either splurge a little and sign Winnik to play the other wing or find a bargain guy.

The offense will improve tremendously.

Stars trade Alex Chiasson, Nick Paul, Alex Guptill and 2nd pick in 2015 for Jason Spezza and Ludvig Karlsson.

Wait..where's SeventySeven and his suggestion to trade Stepan/McIlrath/2nd for Spezza?

LOL - sometimes, it's good to be right, other times, it's not. This is one of those good times.

Can Joe Thornton be far from our future?

I just get the vibe from reading earlier reports he wants to stay in San Jose but I could be absolutely wrong.

I think a very good argument can be made that the 4th line was consistently the best line in the playoffs - the Brassard line gave them a run, but they disappeared for stretches. The 4th line made an impact seemingly every game.

That kind of depth is a HUGE reason why the team made it as far as they did. Its not easy to recreate. Im alarmed at how easy management thinks it is sometimes.

I agree, although someone needed to score a goal at the end of the day and they didn't have that guy, or enough of those guys, so you need to take from one success to create another; one in which has more value on every team, typically. That line was too good that they priced themselves off the team. They were made up of cheap parts. Not easily replaced. 100% correct. Boyle was a reclamation project; former #1 pick. Moore bounced around and back. Simple players, not easily replicated on the cheap and the chemistry doesn't happen overnight. And their success was helped by the defense they had behind them. It was a unit of 5 working out there. The top six better be improved a fair amount from last season, as well as the PP, otherwise it may be difficult to see the playoffs. It wasn't a guarantee last season either.

He wants 3 for 1.75 per.

Rangers apparently offered 2 for "slightly under" that average.

2 for 1.6, 2 for 1.5? I think that's more than fair.

It's a very fair offer. Dom Moore will take every last penny he can get if his past is any indication. And I am not begrudging him for this. It's a business. But people need to remember that he has shown zero loyalty in the past towards anyone.

No you are right. He doesn't want to leave and also doesn't have to. I don't think he'll be traded this offseason.

My fearless prediction: we trade for Chris Neil.

The Rangers have wanted him for a while and the Rangers now know what players the Sens are interested in.

Well they did just clear a ton of room for Nash.. :sarcasm: :naughty:

Wonder if they'll re-start talks with Buffalo about Stewart.

I know you were joking but I don't think cap space matters much up there since Melnyk is a tightwad.

I wonder how the locker room will feel about this.

They cut Richards to be able to resign their core players that were hitting the market. Now ALL of them are leaving.

As good or as bad as Richards was, cutting him was sold to the players (in particular) under the premise that this was a business and in order to keep everyone together they needed to get rid of him.

Now, they cut Richards and have let every FA they possibly could, walk.

They could even resign just half of them, like Stramlan and Boyle and letting D. Moore and Poo walk.

:shakehead

Stralman is the only guy that could possibly be described as a core piece.

Poo - Nope

Boyle - Nope

Moore - Nope

Thank goodness the Rangers didn't do anything stupid for Spezza.

That said solid add for Dallas, West gets better and better.

Tough to envision a scenario where the Rangers go into camp without a huge dropoff in talent from LY. It was always inevitable but it still sucks.

D. Moore has been a dedicated pro wherever he has been. That's all the loyalty anyone should expect. As for his asking price, it's too much. The guy has never made more than $1.2MM in a year, to give him his biggest contract at 33 is nuts. Let someone else do that.
