Erhoff aside, if we could get Yakupov for Staal after signing Stralman, that makes the team a lot better.

The Oilers desperately need a solid defenseman. It's not an official rumor but it makes a lot of sense for both sides.

We're then sitting with 4 natural RW's who all belong in a top-six role. I don't know where everyone would play. Rangers need another righty, and one who plays the LW would be ideal. David Perron might make more sense than Yakupov, IMO. Makes only 100k less than Staal, but is signed for an additional year. Obviously he doesn't have the high-end upside that Yakupov might, but we can't just overload one position.

You know what Erhoff's availability just might cause a shift of events for the Rangers to fulfill the 2nd lpairing D. If it comes down to Erhoff or Stralman, and we would take one or another, maybe Erhoff entering the marketplace brings the cap hit down enough on either signing? Maybe it's wishful thinking.

Well, he doesn't anything left really to prove in Junior. He proved that the dip in production last year was an abberition.

Next step is Pro. The screwey rules about not being able to play in the A under 20 if drafted out of the CHL. He can play the few NHL games.

There have been players that step in out of Junior.

It's not likely, but let's see what he does in camp in September.

Doesn't matter if he has nothing left to prove. We don't have much room for him and he needs playing time.

I'm about as high on Duclair as anybody, but penciling him in on the NHL team in any capacity is too much IMO.

Yes agreed. Read somewhere that he is up to about 190lbs. now. His goal might 10-15 more which would be solid. Let him dominate one more year in juniors and memorial cup and then see where he stands.

I think most here would be extremely disappointed at the return Staal would bring.

We're not getting Palmieri+Vatanen, we're not getting Bjugstad. I doubt we get ROR. This team is going to need kids and cheap FAs to overperform expectations to remain a top team.

So very true. Remember the buffaloes and washingtons of 15 years ago that eek into the final only to disappoint the following years.

good bye depth. :help::shakehead:(

Kind of a random note, not really directed at any player in particular.

Everyone says how great guys hockey players are, how they aren't selfish etc.

Everyone bashes basketball players for being thugs, or money hungry etc.

It should be noted that LeBron freakin James is about to take a paycut. So is Dewayne Wade. Tim Duncan opted in for 10 million when he can easily get more elsewhere.

You never see this in hockey. Everybody wants every dollar. Hockey lost a whole season and then another half season because of players who are much more well off to begin with being so greedy.

Maybe some hyperbole from me but I just find it amazing that some of the best players in the NBA, including the best player since Jordan are taking less money in an effort to win.

If Erhoff can play the right side (as well as the left side). He should really be a target to replace Stralman.. Not only can he replace Stralman this year, he provides insurance next year if Staal leaves. He can also put up points, something Stralman nor Staal can do.

I dont think Fast, Lindberg (and especially) Kristo, and Bourque really sniff the NHL much this season.

If that is the team, we're in for a world of hurt.

Hockey players make less money. Hockey players give more to charity. A hockey player's career can end in an instant. A NBA player gets slapped on the wrist and a foul is called.

Ignoring endorsement deals (which are astronomically higher for a NBA player), do remember that the LeBrons and the like make ~20 million, so the scale is off a bit in the comparison.

Lastly, when your effective playing roster is MUCH smaller in the NBA, it's easier to see where your paycut went to bolster the lineup opposed to talking a sweetheart deal and hoping the savings materialize when spread over the other 22 players on the team.

It's optics and small handful of players wanting to get championships that drive this false narrative.

And while I don't agree w/ your lockout/players being greedy viewpoint, if hockey players came from the socio-economic background that many basketball players do, hockey players would probably be viewed differently (rightly or wrongly)

Ehrhoff would be great.

I have no idea what the trade market for a player like Staal would be but I'm not against the idea. I'd love it if Yakupov or Eberle were in play, I'd do Staal+Talbot for either one no problem but Marc has no incentive to sign an extension in Edmonton besides "well, they can't suck forever, right?"

What about Staal to Dallas? Seguin, Benn, Canadian connection

Correct if I'm wrong but didn't Crosby and JT both take paycuts
