Can people be realistic please, we are not trading staal and we are not signing erhoff besides he is left handed and AV likes righties on the right

Staal is a UFA next summer, is falling apart, and will get 6 million annually on his next contract. If Sather is smart he will trade Staal before his value plummets.

I don't think his buy-out will have any effect. Lecavalier still got a 22.5M contract after his 33M buy-out.

I think he could have gotten more and likely would have negotiated for more if he were simply coming off an expiring contract. Look at Prospal a few years back. A guy coming off a 71 point season signs for $1.1m? The buyout absolutely affected the decision making process there.

I'm about as high on Duclair as anybody, but penciling him in on the NHL team in any capacity is too much IMO.

Maybe.

From what he said in an interview when the season ended, he knows what he needs to work on to take the next step. Specifically, he mentioned he is going to get in the gym and get stronger.

The kid's acceleration is up there with Kreider and Hagelin. I feel, if he gets stong enough over the summer, based on his speed and skill, he may not be far off.

We could accomodate him for the minimum amount of NHL games and evaluate him after that, if he needs to go back to Junior, so be it.

All of that is wonderful. But there is simply zero need to rush him.

Prospal was coming off a 45 point season. He also was bought-out late in summer when most teams had already filled out their roster.

If a player would be a good fit at X dollars, why should it matter how much he has in his bank account?

More CORSI, I believe.

Sorry, you're right. 71 points was the year before. The point still stands.

Being bought out late in the summer doesn't matter. There are plenty of teams that would have paid him more and had the cap space.

The point is that buyout money frees up a player to think more strongly about where he wants to end up as opposed to how much he can get. It changes the equation. If Lecavalier doesn't get bought out and is just on an expiring contract, maybe he signs in Phoenix, where he has less desire to go, for closer to the $5.5m that they ended up giving to Ribeiro. Instead, because he also has the buyout money flowing, he signs for less money in a place he has more desire to be. Obviously, I don't know that Phoenix offered him anything. It's just an example.

Hopefully a #1 plus a prospect.

id sign Ehroff..

See if ANA wants a d... Trade Staal+(McIrath/Lindberg/Kristo etc) for Palmieri and Vatanen

Nash-Step-Palmieri
Kreider-Miller-MSL
Hags-Brass-MZA
Carter-Moore-Carboom
Fast

MAC-G
Ehr-Vat
JM-Klein

A trade of Staal should help us get some depth on center. Depends on what our others sign for we should be able to get a player like Anisimov or Plekanec, or a Pirri+pick/prospect. As Florida have a bunch of young
centers I would love to do a sign and trade with Staal for Bjugstad, even
if we have to add a bit more.

I think most here would be extremely disappointed at the return Staal would bring.

We're not getting Palmieri+Vatanen, we're not getting Bjugstad. I doubt we get ROR. This team is going to need kids and cheap FAs to overperform expectations to remain a top team.

Well, he doesn't anything left really to prove in Junior. He proved that the dip in production last year was an abberition.

Next step is Pro. The screwey rules about not being able to play in the A under 20 if drafted out of the CHL. He can play the few NHL games.

There have been players that step in out of Junior.

It's not likely, but let's see what he does in camp in September.

Erhoff aside, if we could get Yakupov for Staal after signing Stralman, that makes the team a lot better.

The Oilers desperately need a solid defenseman. It's not an official rumor but it makes a lot of sense for both sides.

And Yakupov only has a base of 925K. Any bonuses could be applied to the following season's cap.

I'd have to think the Oilers would want a player under contract longer term though.

Suffice it to say, I'd also trade Klein for Yakupov. Not sure the Oilers would, though.

I wonder if they'd be interested in John Moore.
