The most attractive option for C is Spezza compared to the other names I have read in this thread. Does anyone even know what the Sens are looking for in return? Picks and prospects or do they want roster players?

Spezza and MSL UFA the same offseason. And it'll cost assets.

No thanks. Spezza helps the team but he's got a bad back and wants a lot of money.

Why can't Sather trade for a young center?

No more expiring contracts.

are you trading Ryan Mcdonagh or Chris Kreider?

I guess we're getting every 1C on the market.

Seriously though, I'm generally a positive guy with the Rangers, but I'm starting to freak out a little. Nobody is signed. Nobody. No news even on most skaters, really.

I think/fear that Sather is making everyone wait up to see if he can nab a center, most likely Stastny. Make everyone who has been on this team and just helped them have the best season in 20 years sit on their hands while you find out if someone who may or may not even have any interest in your team is willing to let you give him an albatross contract. What a great strategy.

Obviously, it's not impossible, but I'm starting to think it's a real, real long shot that next year's team is nearly as good as the one that just finished. Forget better.

Starting to believe this.

It's going to come down to the NMC/NTC.

Desperate teams will provide them. A powerful chip.

Gorges, Spezza. Who else?

Spezza will go to Dallas. Please do.

And the Rangers were real good when Sather could just throw money at anyone he wanted.:sarcasm:

on paper they were really good... ill always remember sandy mcarthy behind the net trying to make a pass but it hits off the referees skate comes back to him and he does a wrap around on jose theodore to eliminate the habs from playoff contention... those were the days...those were the days

Days of Anson Carter, Eric Lindros, Pavel Bure... etc.

I don't know why anyone would doubt the Rangers are after Spezza. It's fits Sather's M.O. perfectly. I almost think he has to do something like Spezza because this team is between a rock and a hard place with a lack of prospects, no 1st rounder again next season, and some killer contracts on the roster. Might as well actually go all-in and try and win it.

I don't know if Spezza can make the difference but our centers were exposed in the Finals as being too small, lacking skill and/or not being good on faceoffs. Spezza has size, skill and was 54% on faceoffs last season.

Looks like Pouliot is definitely hitting the market:

Larry Brooks ‏@NYP_Brooksie

Pouliot agent Kent Hughes via text on whether it appears that No. 67 is indeed headed to the market: "So far."
