Indeed.

Iginla is going to command a large salary. We can't afford to spend that much on a luxury. We need to be build a cohesive, competitive roster. If we're in a position to have some cap space once that is done, only then would I make a move like Iginla.

Agreed. Lets go after the depth the team is about to lose. Not another aging silver bullet, please.

What the hell aren't you guys understanding.

We have 2 LWs.

3 RWs.

Iginla plays RW.

Nash, one of our RWs, can also play LW.

Shift Nash to LW.

Therefore, 3 LWs and 3 RWs.

It's really not that complicated...

If you watched at all last year then you would have seen that he's not effective on the left side. At all.

I guess Vigneault kept him there all year just for ***** and giggles, despite this team having all sorts of issues on the left side.

all sorts of issues?

where do you come up with this stuff? We had Hagelin, Kreider, and Pouliot on the left side all year. We had Callahan/MSL, and MZA on the right side.

MZA and Cally were injured for large stretches of this year, hagelin missed some time in the beginning of the year, and kreider missed some time at the end. they evened out.

the "all sorts of issues" on the left side makes no sense unless youre trying to either be obviously obtuse, or are rewriting history to fit your argument. there were issues all over the ice this year.

Nash can play either side. He's had 40+ goal seasons playing the left side. this argument over whether or not he can play that side is flat out idiotic. he can. hes done it. hes succeeded at it.

it's been said a million times he was LW in CLB. Actually Brassard was likely his C. Its not nuts to think Nash replaces poo on that line and they go Kreider, Stepan, MSL

That's the top 6 best offensive players on paper. Hagelin is a perfect 3rd line LW. Miller and Moore can battle for 3rd line time.

To me they need a guy that can play both LW/RW. Should not be hard they are professionals

Nash started on the LW in CBJ, but moved to the right. He played both positions, but mostly RW. He also didn't work very well with Brass in CBJ and played better with other centers.

I'd still try him on Brassard's RW with Z on the left.

Thats what I've seen during his time with the Rangers. I cant believe people want to bury their heads in the sand on the matter in order to accommodate Jarome Iginla. Oy.

Forget Iginla. We dnt need him. St Louis and Nash are both elite forwards. Zucc, Brass, Hagelin, Stepan and Kreider can also produce. What we need is Ehrhoff and he will cost us alot. Edmonton might offer him 7-8 millions a year. Detroit will also be offering him a good contract. We should be able to make room for Ehrhoff and convince him to come to NYR. He wants a cup and we are a contender. Still he would cost alot. So resign Strålman, trade Staal and offer Ehrhoff a good contract.

The Rangers are keeping Nash at LW in their back pocket as a secret weapon I suppose. Call it the Manhattan project.

he played both sides in Columbus. it was really just trying to get the guys around him going. he was a 40 goal scorer on both sides of the rink. great player, doesnt need much to play with. im in agreement with 31. you dont necessarily need to try to build a line to make him work, you can build the line and stick him on it wherever and he'll do his thing. hes more of an individual than a line kinda guy. get him his breakaways and make space for him. thats really all you need to do. guy is a lock to score 35 a year.

the power play needs a right handed shooter. 1 righty forward on the entire power play. 1.

Stepan. Thats it.

Historically the teams that have multiple right handed options tend to be the most lethal. Iginla can rip it too, hes not a bum. hes a 30+ goal scorer anually for a reason. he was also, arguably, bostons best forward in the playoffs.

I think a good PP unit was Graves-Mess-Kovalev (left handers) and Leetch-Zubov (Zubbie being the only right hander).

I get what you're saying. It makes sense, but what you really need are players comfortable in the positions in which they are playing. Conversely, a tam like Detroit had three right-handed shots on a decent PP at one point (Yzerman-Shanny and Cheli). It's all about the position in which they are playing and they're ability to move around and create space and openings.

When did he play the left side? He certainly didnt this year. Kreider takes the LW. Gaborik did the year before that.

He absolutely has played the left side this year multiple times. Didn't work, just like it didn't work in '13.

It really doesn't matter if he was a LW before. He's been tried there and keeps winding back up on the RW.

yep fair enough.

again, i dont think Iginla is a do or die scenario.

i think he solves a lot of problems. he checks a lot of the boxes we need, and his age actually benefits us with getting to roll his salary over to next year.

to me Ehrhoff would be priority 1. I think he solves most of the issues we have on the back end with regards to bringing more offense and transitioning the puck up.

and heck, if we could bring back BOTH stralman AND Ehrhoff then deal Klein for a draft pick, id be all over it, and be willing to have a weaker group up front to have such a stacked back end.

Last I remember Nash playing the left side for us was the end of last season when Nash-Stepan-Cally was a line

No team is offering him 7 mill. I'll sport a dunce hat avatar up to the 14/15 playoffs if he gets a 7M contract.

i kinda vaguely remember that. i think playing once or twice with a guy on the left side is hardly enough to discount years as a 40+ goal scorer playing that side.

it would be one thing if hes never done it before, or, like gabby where he says he definitely has a preference. Nash has stated before he doesnt really care which side he plays on.

thats one thing i never got about torts. Nash didnt care, Gabby did, yet he made gabby switch instead of nash.

so weird.
