I think we re-sign Staal long-term, hopefully with nothing more than a limited NTC.

If/when Skjei proves he can play top-4 minutes, we trade him then. Also, Staal's value is at an all-time low right now. If he's signed long-term and is playing back near his peak, we'd get much more from them, while also not decimating our LD position as we'd be waiting for Skjei to be ready.

Stepan, Brassard, Stralman's rights, Fast

for Eric and Jordan

Kreider E.Staal St. Louis
Zuccarello J. Staal Nash
Hagelin Miller Kristo/Haggerty
Carcillo Moore Carter

McDonagh Girardi
Staal Klein
Moore Fayne

Lundqvist
Talbot

Would certainly have been a better center match-up with those big bodies at center against the Kings.

Good thing there's no salary cap.

The Rangers, seeking a righty to replace Anton Stralman on the second pair if the pending free agent flees as expected, have checked in with and have legitimate interest in New Jersey’s 27-year-old Mark Fayne, according to an individual familiar with the situation.
The Blueshirts also are believed to have interest in Devils’ prospective free agent fourth-line wing Ryan Carter, who could, to a certain degree, fill the spot expected to be vacated by Brian Boyle.
We keep hearing the Rangers aren’t going to pay to keep Dominic Moore, which only means they will pay down the road if management squeezes the fourth-line center and prime penalty killer out of New York.
Moore led the team in faceoff efficiency in both the regular season (54.6 percent) and the playoffs (54.5). The two Rangers’ centers under contract for next season, Derek Stepan and Derick Brassard, combined to win a paltry 46.3 percent of their draws during the regular season and an even more disturbing 44.1 during the playoffs.
It is one thing when the cap forces a GM to say no. There seems to be no good reason, however, for the Rangers to lose Moore, who is believed to be seeking a three-year deal for between $1.6 million and $1.85 million per season.

Slats talking with Fayne?

Call me synical, but I don't think it's serious. I bet that Slats pissed at Lou for going after Pouliot, after snitching Clowe the year before. Lou in his turn is pissed at us for Gomez and co.

I think the interest in Carter could be a bit more serious, but we will see.

Is there really no way to keep Dom?

Dom always does this when negotiating. Id give him 3 years under 2 million a year though.

(estimations for 2014-15)
SALARY CAP: $69,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $68,911,667; BONUSES: $445,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $88,333

Reasons for the following contracts..

Zucc.. 3.5M
comparable: Alex Killorn who just signed a 2 year deal with the Lightning for $2.55M, put up 41 points (17 goals, 24 assists).. Zucc put up a 59 point season (19 goals, 40 assists), 18 more points than Killorn which is why he's making a million dollars more per year.

Chris Kreider 2.5M.
comparable.. Carl Hagelin signing his 2 year bridge contract put up 24 points in 48 games (10 goals 14 assists) during the lockout.. Prorate that over a full season, and you're looking at about 35-40 points.. Kreider this season put up 37 points (17G 20A) in 66 games, but also spent some time in Hartford in the beginning of the season. gets slightly more than Hagelin on a bridge contract.

Derick Brassard - 4M
Comparable.. Patrick Berglund just signed a contract worth 3.7M per year over 3 years.. The last 3 years Berglund has put up 99 points, while Brassard has put up 116 points, a difference of 17 points, which is why I put Brassard in the 4M range.

Pouilit and Stralman may very well get more.. but I would go 2 years on Pouilot, and 5 years if need be on Stralman if we can secure him at 4M.. but thats the absolute highest I would go on both of them..

Rangers need $1 to $1.5 million in cap space with the 22 man roster to leave room for call ups and deadline trades. Having $88k left won't cut it unfortunately.

Staal - Fayne?

Vigneault's system calls for speed and transition, and Sather is looking to put together the least mobile pairing he can...bravo Slats.

Sign Stralman.

http://snyrangersblog.com/

Dominic Moore wants between 1.6 and 1.85. Is 1.7 really too much for Dominic Moore? No it is not.

Low ball all of your own, dump loads of cash onto outsiders...again, bravo Slats.

Apparently that is all it will take. And Slats is still playing hardball.

Between 1.6 and 1.85. Split the difference, 1.725.

1.725.

I don't see how that is too rich for Sather's blood, but somehow he will figure out a way to dump a truck load of cash on garbage like Fayne, Dan Boyle, and whatever other immoble crap he can find that would be the antithesis of Vigneault's system.

Kreider (2.25) - ROR (6.0) - Nash (7.8) Total: $16.05
Hagelin (2.25) - Stepan (3.1) - MSL (5.25) Total: $10.6
Pouloit (2.0) - Brassard (3.75) - Zucc (3.75) Total: $9.5
Carter (900k) - D. Moore (1.5) - S. Thornton (900k) Total: $3.3
Carcillo (800k)

Total: $39.7

McD (4.7) - Girardi (5.5)
Mitchell (2.0 base/1.5 bonus) - Stralman (4.0)
J. Moore (1.25) - Klein (2.9)
Diaz (900k)

Total: $21.25

Lundqvist (8.5)
Talbot (600k)

Total: $9.1

Total Roster: $70 million Ugh! This sucks!

Anton Stralman (4.5) and Dominic Moore (1.7) combined will cost approximately 6.2.

Richards's 6.7 and Dorsett's 1.6 are off the books. 8.3 combined.

Simple math: 8.3 - 6.2 = 2.1 in savings.

You save 2.1.

You can sign the rest of the 4th line with that. Winnik and Skille.

You can sign 4 guys with the money it cost last season for Brad Richards and Derek Dorsett combined.

How is this a problem for Sather?

4.5 x 6 for Stralman
1.725 x 3 for Moore

Get it done.

Its the raises for Kreider Zucc and Brassard combined with Stralman and D. Moore that are causing issues.

Trade Staal and a B-level prospect to CAR for Tlusty, Sekera, and a 1st

Now you made your defense WAY more mobile. Added a PPQB. And added your replacement to Pouliot.

Sekera (2.75) + Tlusty (RFA- approx 2.5 probably less) = 5.25

LESS than what Marc Staal will demand on his next contract.

Sign Winnik (approx. 1.85 - 50K raise) and Jack Skille (1m - approx. 200K raise but will be less than that most likely) = 2.85

Tell me all this wouldn't fit under the cap.

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - Miller - St. Louis
Tlusty - Brassard - Zuccarello
Winnik - Moore - Skille
Carcillo

McDonagh - Girardi
Sekera - Stralman
Moore - Klein
Diaz

Lundqvist
Talbot

You're forgetting that we also have to re-sign Brassard, Zucc, Kreider and J. Moore. Every one of those players will get a raise. Hank and Girardi will make a combined 3.8 mil more than they made last year.

Last year Zucc and Stralman cost a combined 2.85 mil. Next year they will cost between 8-9 mil.

Take Winnik out of my proposal:

Kreider (2.25) - Stepan (3.075) - Nash (7.8)
Hagelin (2.25) - Miller (894,167) - St. Louis (5.625)
Tlusty (2.5) - Brassard (4) - Zuccarello (3.75)
Duclair (7772,500) - Moore (1.725) - Skille (850,000)
Carcillo (825,000)

McDonagh (4.7) - Girardi (5.5)
Sekera (2.75) - Stralman (4.5)
Moore (1.25) - Klein (2.9)
Diaz (900,000)

Lundqvist (8.5)
Talbot (562,500)

Cap Payroll: 67,879,167
Cap Space: 1,120,833

Take Duclair out if you want and plug someone else in.

It's doable. Maybe Brassard gets less, maybe Tlusty gets less.

here's all the math we need to know.

23 million available with 11 players under contract.

11 million gone between Zuccs, Brass and Kreder.

12 million for 8 players assuming you carry an extra F and an extra D

Stralman at 4.5cause he IS the priority this summner that leaves 7.5 for 7 players

work that out by giving Poo 2+ and Moore 1.7

Pouliot and Stralman are likely gone. Can pay Stralman 5+ and Pouliot can be replace cheaper than what he wants.

Outside of a trade we just wont have 1M+ of cap space for call ups or deadline deals.. unless ALL of our RFAs take bridge deals which Sather may just do. Does anyone know when Zucc and Brass can become UFA?

4.5 for Stralman or 6 million for Staal.

Because in reality that's what the choice really is.

You are either committing to the better player now, or committing to a player with multiple head injuries and an eye injury next summer.

Those are the choices.

Sign Stralman, he will cost less than Staal, and he is and will be the better player moving forward.

Trade Staal to fill spots.

Stralmans getting pretty overrated right now. I always loved him and defended him, but it's getting ridiculous
