In the summer of 2017, in 3 years, we will see a 3rd line center signed for 7m. I would bet on it.

I think we need 2 separate threads, one for rumors and signings/trades and one for speculation. I check here during work and I'll see wow 10 new pages something must have happened and then I see it's just page after page of bickering. I can't tell you how annoying it is scrolling through page after page of the same recycled bull****, while trying to see if there's been any rumors.

Pouliot put in the same role as last year, is a 20 goal scorer. That is worth 3 million no matter how much we cringe at it.

Even though Brassard doesn't get enough credit on that line (Zucc gets plenty), the size and more importantly, the hands of Pouliot did a lot on that line.

With Richards gone, the 2nd line should get even more prime icetime. I put money on the devil we know, instead of re-casting. The Rangers will have enough turnover this year, he's a player I keep.

Poo is not getting you 20 goals.

Poo is going to give you what he has given every team he has played for

13-17 goals
15-20 assists

28-35 points a season.

Lets not blind ourselves to those facts.

He will be 28 to start the season. His development is pretty much complete. He is what he is. A 3rd liner.

3 mil per year is (IMHO) 750k to much. I would push to 2.5, but that is max dollars.

Let someone else pay him 3 per over 4 years

And that's exactly it. Pouliot is a 2nd line LW on this team. That's what a 2nd line wing should make, and he looked good in that role.

Yes you can roll the dice that a cheaper option could work, but we've all seen the Rangers swing and miss on that a ton. Pouliot has his warts, but the potential overpayment there is small compared to overspending by millions on a higher priced FA elsewhere in the lineup. Good teams have continuity, and this is continuity the Rangers can actually afford.

I for one don't want the Rangers to let Pouliot to walk for a few hundred thousand and pick up a handful of lower priced crap (Pyatt, Asham, Brashear, Rissmiller, Voros, etc).

LW depth on the Rangers?

Kreider
Hagelin
Poo

Poo worked well with Brass and Zuccs. And with that great chemistry he managed to a have a career year of a whopping 36 points.

Poo is no 2nd line winger on this team or any other

eesh! I assume UFA. By how much are you calculating the cap to increase by then? I'm thinking there may be a blip, or a flatline, year between now and then, unfortunately. I think for a 3rd liner to get that much he would have to be a vet, and perhaps a PP specialist whose time you'd want limited due to durability, but who can help a lot on the PP and put up points. But, of course, that then cannibalizes your forwards on the top two lines, unless you have a couple cheapos on those lines, and therefore maybe you paid a 3rd line centerman $7MM, but your 2nd line centerman is making $2MM. So, is $7MM for a third line centerman really realistic without the cap exploding and guys on your top two lines not making much?

Yep, but right now, who would that be? unless he's playing with Stepan.

as of now, he is playing with JT Miller; not really the centerman the Rangers likely had in mind when giving away a couple #1s for him. St. Louis is one of those guys who seems to be able to put up the points with most anybody. Well, except if you're talking about the period from which he joined the Rangers through sometime in the second round of the playoffs! Hopefully that monkey's off his back!

it looks alot better on paper when you can say RW is MSL and Zuc and LW is Nash and Kreider

slide Hagelin into the 3rd line role and Poo at 3rd RW or a UFA

at C I think its Stepan and Brassard barring a deal. Miller 3rd line C competing with Lindberg. Also Moore could push them if he is signed

Man, the UFA market is an overpriced heap of crap.

Dan Boyle at 5.5M for 2-3 years? No.
Pouliout for 3M x 3 years (and this, apparently, is "conservative")? No.
Stralman at 4.5M+ for term (5+ years)? Yes if we had cap space. No.
Stastny at 7M+? No.
Brian Boyle at 3+M? No.

I'm going for under the radar guys if I'm Slats.

No to $3M per for Poo. Yes to signing Dustin Penner on the cheap.

No to both. Winnik. Raymond. Or trade for someone.

Ken Hughes hasn't had many extensive discussions with Jeff Gorton about his client. Pouliot wants to cash in on his season and sign a long-term contract. The Rangers are better off with Fast. Right-handed shot. Pouliot is cinderella. Its only a matter of time before he reverts back to being the inconsistent player who bounced around from Minnesota to Montreal to Boston to TB to New York. He took some stupid penalties in the playoffs. The Rangers signed him a one year deal where Pouliot took a $500,000 pay cut. Don't push your luck and sign this guy.

Makes total sense. I just hope that team is not the Rangers

I might give Pouliot a little over $2 mil per but that's about it. He's not in Brassard's range and not remotely in Zucc's. If Zucc and Brass continue to work together they will find chemistry with someone. It doesn't have to be Benoit. I appreciate the size, skill, physicality but he doesn't kill penalties and he takes a lot of dumb ones. He has a couple serious flaws. Pouliot still hasn't proven he's legit until he can string some good seasons together and while last year was a positive step forward for him it wasn't really great. Of our top 9 forwards it was a battle between him and Richards for No. 9.

Can't say I care much for Dustin Penner. The Caps brought him in from Anaheim last year to help them get into the playoffs and 1 goal and 3 points in 18 games. To me he's been one of the most overrated players in the game the past 3-4 years.

He's big and strong and physical when he wants to be. The problem is he doesn't want to be often enough. He's a lesser Chris Stewart in my eyes.

Question:

If ROR wants 6+ million anyways and Stastny wants just around 7, wouldn't it be the more prudent thing to just sign Stastny?

If they can somehow still re-sign Stralman, then move Staal for help elsewhere, (I'm looking at you, Evander Kane). Or would Brassard + be enough to nab Kane?

I still like the idea of someone like Morin or Connolly on the opposite wing from Zucc. Someone young, hungry with decent size and a good shot. Let them develop.

3 yrs 9 million for pouliott ? No thanks . Let fast and Kristo battle it out in camp .

I agree pouliott could easily revert back to being unproductive

Considering that RoR is:

Younger
Better (probably a lot better eventually)

I would say despite one costs assets and not just money, it's not that black and white.

Essentially this.

Going to be a rough few days here.

Theres 3 things that get me here;

1. The Rangers just made the final yet, as usual, lots of fans want video game-like massive roster turnover
2. The Rangers have cap issues
3. The Rangers have asset issues

The last 2 are hard truths that cannot be ignored and likely lead to a slower summer when it comes to enhancing the roster - much to the chagrin of now, now, now fans.

It's asinine that they are about to let Stralman walk over what will probably be a few hundred thousand and a couple of extra years, and then presumably attempt to commit to Staal long-term at 6+ million per, knowing about his head injuries, his eye, and his slow skating.

They better get creative in finding Stralman's replacement. Dan Boyle would be a disaster.

Yes, and unfortunately #2 is starting to look like it will cause #1 regardless.

Boyle: Highly likely to be gone.
Pouliot: Pretty likely.
Stralman: Likely.
Staal: Possibly traded but more likely here until at least March.
Moore: Likely to be back.

1.5/5 is good, right?... :sarcasm:

Im leaning towards Staal and Stralman both being on the opening night roster - Staal without a new contract.

The offense will be a question mark, but thats what 2/3rds of the season and the trade deadline are for.

Letting Stralman walk could be the worst move of the offseason assuming they do not sign or trade for anyone old and slow.
