2 words....salary cap.

Bingo. Look at what happened to Chicago after their first cup run in 2010.

Remember the turnover they went through that off-season?

RW Dustin Byfuglien (traded to Atlanta)
LW Ben Eager (traded to Atlanta)
D Brent Sopel (traded to Atlanta)
C Colin Fraser (traded to Edmonton)
RW Kris Versteeg (traded to Toronto)
LW Andrew Ladd (traded to Atlanta)
C Adam Burish (unrestricted free agent, signed by Dallas)
C John Madden (unrestricted free agent, signed by Minnesota)
G Antti Niemi (unrestricted free agent, signed by San Jose)
D Kim Johnsson (unrestricted free agent)

Cash rules everything around me.

I really wish there would be a luxury tax in the NHL - if solely to compensate for stuff like cost of living. $100 will get you a lot further in Nashville than it will in NYC along with income taxes, etc...

Besides Henrik Lundqvist, the hard cap is the best thing to happen to the Rangers in 20 years

This is Sather's summer. He loves to trade when he has someone over a barrel and there are any number of teams that are rip for the picking whether for salary cap reasons or otherwise and I have no doubt the Rangers, for better or worse, will wind up with a Spezza or Joe Thornton or maybe even a Patrick Sharp...someone of that ilk is going to be moved for a package of J. Moore and Danny Kristo. OK, maybe they won't come that cheap but I don't see the Rangers having to overpay in assets to acquire those types of players.

Both Vancouver deals yesterday could have helped the Rangers, at least on paper. Maybe AV had negative reports on the players. In any event, I have little doubt we're acquiring one of the big fish I mentioned earlier.

With what cap space?

I like the patient strategy. Seems like lots of churning with every team. Lets see what floats to the surface. I loved Pouloit about 60% of the time this year. Him and Stralman came to the Rangers as free agents off the scrap heap and we turned them into multimillionaires. Players sometimes can be like real estate or stocks buy low ..let them go high.. Maybe if we can find another under performing player the challenge will be to decide whether or not to sign him to a multiyear contract at a reasonable number.

The Rangers are in the same spot as a lot of teams. They don't have enough cap space to re-sign all their RFA/UFA's. Boyle we know is already gone. The Rangers still have to re-sign Zucc, Brassard, J. Moore out of the RFA's and D. Moore, Stralman, and possibly Pouliot out of the UFA's. Your talking about $15 million in combined cap space taken up if you don't re-sign Pouliot. $17 million if you do.

If the Rangers did move for one of those guys, they would have more holes elsewhere on the roster.

What about Setoguchi to replace Pouliot?

27, RH shot. Had only 11 goals last year but his shooting % was only 8.5%, 3% lower than his career average of 11.5%. Gotta figure he'll return to around his average and if he does, he could pot 15-20 goals.

I would do it if it was under 3 mil...

Have a 3rd line of hags-miller-seto

Kreider-stepan-MSL
Nash-Bras-MZA
Carboom-Moore-fast

Boyle, stralman, poul are all in same boat.. First time in career they are top commodities.. Will get longer then typical 2-3 yr contracts..

I forgot that Gorton and AV will be a big part of the decision making they won't neglect the bottom 6

FWIW been told deal with STL fell through. Going to take further info from that source with a grain of salt.

Thankfully I don't post rumors often, cause if I did, any credibility would be gone.

Sorry, boys. I honestly thought the rumor was legit.

Maybe it was. Just because it didn't happen doesn't mean it wasn't close to happening.

What? We ever had a deal in place with STL?
