Realistically, Miller is the only guy you can get away with handing a roster spot to next season (out of the prospects)

I'd argue one of the young wingers possibly, as well (Duclair and Haggerty based on certain skill sets). But, agree.

Really not seeing or understanding the game plan so far. What are they trying to accomplish? Contention? Sacrifice a year?

No.

I mean, all the critical components are signed. We're really talking about secondary players here - which, if done right, can be replaced on the market.

Am I missing something on Shattenkirk? I'd love to get him. Fills their needs to a tee, friendly cap-hit.

There aren't words for how excited I would be about this. Fantastic player, and like you said, everything we need at the defense position. Him and Marc Staal together on a pair--:handclap:

I didnt miss the part where Stralman is apparently better, which is an insane opinion

Stralman is better defensively, probably. But, jeez, sure do love Shattenkirk's skill and potential. In Vigneault's system Shattenkirk would be potentially a high-er-end offensive defenseman. Huge potential. At 25 years of age, he could improve the defense and also boom offensively.

Huge upside in him.

Really don't see how we can get him, though.

If Miller + goes. Slats will have to pony up enough money to fill a center spot. Ribeiro? Grabovski? Legwand?

Who fills in the rest of the 3rd and 4th lines? More UFAs and trades.

If that situation happens i will be on the Duclair train. Just put the speed in the lineup and force opposing defenders to be on their heels.

Grabovski would hopefully be signed in this case.

I don't see the point to getting up in arms about Shattenkirk one way or another unless the deal actually happens or rumors of it at least start coming out of actual news sources.

I dont either.

But, like Girardi, Shattenkirk is better than Stralman.

It's not a matter of better. They're very different. Defensively I definitely favor Stralman, but Shattenkirk would give them two significant point producers on the back end for the first time in ages. I also don't know what else we'd be giving up. Miller alone isn't getting us Shattenkirk.

I'd be willing to take some setbacks on offense for Shattenkirk. Let go of Pouliot and Stralman, one of Boyle and Moore, sign a cheaper 3C option or let Miller or Lindberg play. I think a puck moving, power play qb like Shattenkirk could offset the lost offensive talent enough to let this year be something of a stop gap. It's all a pipe dream anyway.

We are weaker at center than D. I'd rather keep Miller.

It depends what other moves they make. Are the Leafs really ready to give up on Nazem Kadri for no apparent reason? He'd be a great pickup.

They'd be really, really stupid to do so.

Well, it is the Leafs, never say never.

I can't believe so many are advocating that the Rangers give up on a kid who put up a PPG in the A as a 21 y/o, who is a center to boot.

How many of those have they produced in, I dunno, the last decade, again?

I think he makes Kreider-like jump next season.

That fact someone thinks we are getting shattenkirk is ridiculous there is nothing that leads me to this as well as us not having the assets to get him
