Of course the Rangers called about Stastny. They need another center, and they should be doing their due diligence on the top center on the market. Doesn't mean anything is going to happen there.

Same goes for Boyle. They need a backup should they not come to terms with Stralman and they need to move Klein up a rung on the D. I think the hiccup with Boyle is the term, not the dollars. He wants 2 years and he wants to play for a contender. The Rangers probably have a good shot of landing him on a bonus-laden deal. Give him sheltered minutes and PP time and it's not the worst option out there. The alternative is probably dealing for Cody Franson.

Not only did San Jose fans say Boyle sucks at defense now but they also said he single-handedly would make their powerplay worse! Sounds like our kinda guy!

I think if our D stays the same or if we sign someone you look to include McIlrath in a package for something. He loses waivers eligibility this season if I'm not mistaken and this is his season to **** or get off the pot. Hard to do if there's no room for him to play.

Or move an expensive d man on a later contract to make room for a rookie on an ELC.

You need to feed up rookies in order to make the cap work.

Don't trade him.

Boyle is not the PPQB he once was. San Jose's PP was worse than ours...

if hes here, hes here to qb the pp.

he may be 38, but he still has his shot and the ability to make the proper pass at the right time.

his skating isnt that great. he would need to play 3rd pair e/s minutes but i cant believe he would make us worse at the point along side mcd.

he has the ability to get his shot through and hes accurate. hes also a very good tape to tape passer.

his right handed shot helps alot as well.

he only costs money. he wants to win another cup. he won one in tampa with msl in 2004. they are buddies.

I have no qualm about 2 years, honestly. Either he's good enough for the second year or the deal, he retires, or we find a taker for him and retain some salary. It's one year and not that big of a deal. I have a bigger issue with the price tag. Markov got $5.75m in a re-up. What's Boyle getting?

I really think you have to put some of these moves into perspective.

Our farm is rather depleted. Who can be moved without much detriment to the team? Who can you recoup some assets for?

Klein - 2nd round pick
Dorsett - 4th round pick

The model this team has in building the roster is draft depth players, sign the talent. We've had luck in the later rounds with Sather. Cally, Dubi, Hagelin, Hank, Girardi (undrafted), Allen, D.Moore. Kreider, Miller, Skjei all project to be even better depth players than the later picks.

Add more picks, you don't necessarily need to trade into the first round to find these guys. This is a deep draft. Next year is a deep draft. We'd have 2 2nd's in each of the next two drafts.

In place of Klein and Dorsett? Dan Boyle for a year or two and Daniel Winnik for two years. Boyle can have just as positive of an effect on our D Corps as Klein has had, in fact maybe even better. Winnik a more physical presence than Dorsett.

I believe that Gaborik's 7-yr deal is worth around $4.9 M or $5 M a year. I am working to confirm.

He may only cost money, but don't have the space to realistically accommodate him for what he will want.

Seems like he could be a candidate for a comeback player of the year, playing for respect with a chip on his shoulder to prove something.

Low and short term risk but high reward.

I like the kid and want to see what he can do, but if they keep the D the same then he has no place to play but Hartford or sit in the press box - both should not be options for him.

Dylan plays the right side. He isn't filling in for Staal and Girardi isn't getting traded. Likelihood of Klein getting traded is low.

I trust other team's board's overall opinion of their own players almost as much as I trust ours, which isn't much. So I don't know if I would put much stock in that. Despite how much they say he hurts the PP, he still put up 18 PP points last year. More than any Rangers D.

Klein a proven defenseman who can play top four minutes and trade him for a 2nd round pick who isn't proven and can easily turn into a bust? Yeah no thanks

He retires and we're still stuck with his cap hit.

What is any of this based on though? I've heard literally nothing but complaints from Sharks fans who watched him for a long, long time.

You say he can have a positive effect. More positive than Klein, even. Based on what? Just on contract and years alone, Boyle will be retired, or just terrible in two years, and Klein will be on the same nice deal until 2018. Plus, Moore and Klein play well together. Plus, Moore needs an anchor on his pair, not another offensive D who is slower than him.

#Kings Gaborik #NHL 7 yr deal comes in just north of 34m. His aav comes in under 5m. Good deal for LA

Good deal for LA?!??!

Lol. He'll be 40 by the time that deal is over.

Just yesterday they said it was a 3 year offer. What in the hell?

there is the key. Richards was one PP QB, and for all his faults, over the course of the season was one of the better ones. At the end of the day, the PP failed, and a couple conversions in the SCFs could've made that series a bit more interesting, especially an OT PP goal. That could be a focus of Sather, but if a guy like Boyle comes, I'd think Stralman gets priced out. Just thinking about the numbers, which I don't know all too well, off the top of my head. Maybe they get a sense in these days, and if the sense is bad, they go hard at Stralman.Unless Klein is moved and Boyle comes at a similar cost. I don't know. Just throwing it out there.

They could re-sign Stralman and decide to move both Staal AND Klein. Sign Boyle. Lots of options, but IMO that's too many moving pieces.

Great cap hit. Too long of a contract.

They'll probably never sign anyone ever...

Good to see they have time to call for their interest in Paul Stastny who they can't afford without gutting the team, but according to Brooks they haven't made an offer to Dominic Moore who will probably come back rather cheap.

What the hell is this team doing, seriously? Why isn't anyone being resigned?

Ignore my name, too. I love Sather and have for years now. But the way they go about re-signing players annoys the piss out of me. Who will be the holdout going into this years training camp? (Although its mostly always the players fault in that case, but still) Can't wait for a season like 12-13 where the entire team is redone because we're too proud or something to re-sign our UFAs.

take a look at our pp please. we were brutal.

boyle production would have lead our team.

we need a guy like him. even at 38, hes still money on the pp compared to what we have now.

I don't put much stock into teh idea that the PP was better this year with Richards on the point.

I think the PP would have been improved based on the fact that we now had someone dedicated to addressing it as a concern where as Torts tolerated it.

Richards was still thinking the position to much for my liking.

I much rather perfer a player come in here and instinctually run the PP. And while Dan Boyle MAY have been that guy at one time, I think as players get older then tend to think the game more than play it and having a 37 year old Boyle here now would leave us with no better a PP than last year. No improvement and we get older.

Still need a competent guy to play the PP point, and Richards was pretty competent, given the choices both AV and Torts had for the position. If they do get a true point guy, we will then find out if it's the point guy or the PP strategy, as well as a lack of big presence in front of the net, there for screens, rebounds and such, of which there wasn't enough and too often the PP seemed to rely on that extra pass to get a good shot on goal.

Way to radical of a change to a D-corps that just made the cup final - not happening
