Stralman. I think Grabovski stinks and will get massively overpaid due to being the 2nd best UFA center on the market.

If the Rangers sign Stralman and then extend Staal, thats alot of money tied up in a top 4 defense that doesn't provide a lot of offense at all. And theres no money to really improve the forwards.

That said, I'd really like to avoid tearing down the defense core.

why do you think Grabovski stinks?

hes about as consistent a 25/25 guy as youre going to see. hes good defensively..not great, but solid. and is young, good skater, good shot. hes a good player, not unlike Stepan, or Brassard in terms of production.

he'd basically fit perfectly into our last year scenario..3 #2 centers.

Hes gone 25/25 once in his career. In 2010-2011, and a good argument can be made that his play has regressed since then - certainly from an offensive standpoint.

(edit) Splitting hairs here, I guess. 23G 28A isn't 25/25 technically.

But, he's had 3 48+ point seasons. He might get overpaid, but he won't be a liability.

Any thoughts on replacing Boyle with Malholtra if we can't sign Brian again?

I agree there's no way Grabovski comes cheap. The center market is just a joke right now.

I like the idea of taking a flier on Malhotra.

I'd rather keep the cap space. Sounds like a typical "Hey, that guys available, lets sign him" scenario. I dont think he fits particularly well and I have no interest in paying him UFA dollars when, frighteningly enough, he is the 2nd best center on the free agent market.

And that's the key.

Grabovski's actual value is probably 4 million. Maybe not even that.

Grabovski when the only better center is Paul Stastny? Yeah, I don't see how he doesn't make 5 million.

He's also 30 and has seen a fairly steady decrease in production.

PPG...last season is listed first, and only till he went to Toronto.

.603
.333
.689
.716
.593
.615

career: .611

Essentially, his last year was pretty much in line with his career.

last year he average 1:26 PP TOI/G

in his highest point season he averaged 3:08 PP TOI/G He got half as much and still produced at a solid rate. With the guys they have on their team, its not surprising he got so little PPTOI.

I dont think hes much of an offensive threat and, if we are going to pay for a forward, shouldn't it be for offense?

You think hes a better option than Brassard??

he scores at roughly the same clip as Brassard...so if he isnt an offensive threat, neither is brassard.

i dont think hes a better option than brassard.

i think hes a better option that miller. to me thats teh other choice. miller or grabovski (if you go the free agent route). none of the other names appeal to me as anything other than emergency options in case MIller just isnt ready (Goc, Mueller, etc)

grabo would be nice if brass wasnt here but not worth eating our capspace for someones whos simialr to brass.

Stepan
Brass
Miller
Moore is perfect for now..

Lets see how this Staal situation plays out, if not he'll be our trade chip for a another top 6 center..

Let the kid Miller play.. hes got all the tools, just needs to given a full time opportunity..

I'm not advocating signing the guy. Not at all. I'd roll with Brass/Steps/Miller/Boyle and/or Moore down the middle. Signing one of these UFA C's isn't going to do much for this team.

Unless we need a 4th line guy if Moore AND Boyle don't sign here then, like I said, I'd be calling Malholtra for a value contract and a good face off guy.

Hopefully Miller takes a step forward, McIlrath too, and one of Fast/Lindberg/Kristo etc... can get some minutes. I don't do much via free agency unless I can't sign some of our guys (Zukes, Brass, Kreider etc...) to contracts.

The 4th line went from awesome to terrible. Yuck. No offense, man, but that 4th line is pretty damn bad.

Why are we trading Dorsett?

We should trade Dorsett for cap flexibility; also the highest we get MIGHT be the Col 2nd Flames have. (like 54th, or something like that overall).
Even if we added a future 6th or even a 5th, a high enough 2nd is useful.

He's also 30 and has seen a fairly steady decrease in production.

He got deployed exclusively as a shutdown guy by Carlyle his last year in Toronto with plug wingers, and was hurt last year to go with a relatively low amount of PP time - the 1st unit in WSH gets a huge share of their time - backstrom got almost 3x his PP ice.

He's a slam dunk depending on the price.

im laughing at anyone here who wants to build on last years run and win a cup.

anyone advocating moving zuke is crazy. that guy was our best most consistent performer the entire year. moving him would be starting over. dumb.

poo is another guy who played, for the most part, a complete game and was on many nights just as good as zuke. he added some finish, snarl and size to that line. together, losing those 2 would gut this team.

brass was the guy that made those 2 go and imo, keeping that line in tact gives us a matchup nightmare with their speed, forecheck and finishing ability.

we couldnt score last year. losing the one line that showed it could would be suicide.

add another centerman like a paul stasny who can bring his complete 2 way game and the ability to set up nash and kreider and we roll 4 lines again like last year.

remove richards and add stasny = better balance and more dangerous 1st line. nash needs to score for us to return to the finals. he hasnt shown he can play with step.

put stepan with hags and msl and you have speed on the edge for the productive but plodding stepan.

keep 3rd line together and watch them create that matchup nightmare. dangerous 3some.

we cannot afford both staal and stralman. based on last season, stralman has earned his contract.

hes healthy vs. staal and his history.
plays complete game.
playoff performer
will be less expensive than staal.
moving staal provides cap space

staal brings back a 1st rounder - we have none in next 2 drafts and a roster player or top end prospect.

i like last years forwards if we remove richards and add a more productive, creative 1c as long as that 1c can get RICK NASH ROLLING.

let boyle walk hes earned a nice payday and give his minutes to jt miller.

Honestly, this would be a pretty sweet line up:

18 of our players would still be Rangers from our cup run. Not much turnover. Richards w/ Stastny (which isn't the best option but it's fine, I guess). Mantha in place of Poo. Miller in place of Boyle. Allen in place of Staal.

3.7M for Brassard isn't going to get it done.
4.1M for Zuccarello might not get it done.
2.25M for Kreids is optimistic
4M for Stralman is optimistic

What are we getting for Staal?

3.7 for Brassard is his QO.

4.15 for Zucc, IMO, is realistic.

2.25 for Kreids is what Hagelin had on his bridge contract with similar production.

4 for Stralman is what Brooks said the Rangers are allocating for him.

Mantha + Det 2nd for Staal, although if Slats can get the 1st... even better.

conor allen initially 3rd pair with klein.

i would do mcd and stralman

moore and girardi

i like poo so the mantha thing to me isnt a big deal.

i like the poo brass zuke line together.

moore with miller and dorsett is a very good 4th line.
