Why less from Stepan or Brassard?

Step stays w/ the same line mates. He's been trending upward in production every year he's been in the league.

And I think that Staal's spot goes to Skjei in the next year and a half. Young, mobile, shut down defenseman who has an excellent head on his shoulders? If he leaves college, he could even get a cup of coffee in the NHL this year, if he continues developing at the rate he has over the last two years.

That roster does a few things for the team moving forward, one of which allows the team to appraise Allen's performance on that 2nd pairing. If, for some reason, he's not cutting it... they'll have the flexibility to trade for a LD at the deadline that can bear more responsibility and minutes.

Someone will play less on the PP. Perhaps a fair amount less. One may be off entirely, while the other gets mop-up minutes on the second unit, and neither PP would have a full point unit, as of now. Ok, Skjei gets Staal's spot down the road...who's shutting down Crosby and Ovechkin this season? And again, steal man needs a strong partner, otherwise we may lament that $4.5mm over a few years.

Schenn was not arbitration eligible. .45 points per game in the regular season. .66 points per game in the playoffs. Kreider is at .449 points per game in the regular season. .535 points per game in the playoffs. 41 playoff games. 89 regular season games. Schenn has played 192 regular season games. 18 playoff games. Kreider has 11 goals in 41 playoff games. He scores one more goal in game 2 or game 5 and the Rangers force game 6. 15 playoff games. 5 goals and 8 assists. .867 points per game in the trip to the Cup finals. Brad Richards had 12 playoff goals in the last 3 years. Kreider was 2nd to him. Stepan has 10. Brassard has 8. Nash has 4. Four.

FOr the record, I totally disagree that Boyle is more important than Pouilot going forward (and now he's not irreplaceable either).. We've seen Boyle on the 3rd line for how many years before this one? and we've *****ed about him everyone.. putting him with brassard and Zucc is suicide.

Haven't watched him play. Admittedly. But i'm pretty sure other players have made the transition from the Q to NHL w/o needing AHL time.

I have and he is flat out lazy too often in his own end. He has that Cam Fowler-esque anti-competitiveness to his game. He got by on Val-d'Or a lot by flat out overpowering other players (he's 6' 5", around 200 lbs). He needs a year in the A. Mike Babcock will devour him if he comes to the Wings with his current demeanor.

Kid can score, though.

He's not a center anyway.

Zucc nor Brass should get a shade over 4 on a long term deal.. Brassard has never hit 50 points, and Zucc has had one great season.. lets temper the expectations, and you can be damn sure that Sather is going to use that in negotiations (see Stepan).

I sure hope so. Gotta bring smart negotiation tactics to these discussions.

Boyle loves it here and has earned a certain level of chance to prove he can do more.
If he is willing to give us 1 year at 2.75m,
and though we may expect longer term deals for mo $$, I think he would do that under the right circumstances,
the LW on the Brass - Zuc line should be his (replacing Pouilot).
I agree Boyle hasn't shown me an offensive vision at C, but he is fine enough on offense without the added responsibility IF you have the right combo with him, and he remains a superior FO and PK guy.
Is = or faster than Poo, is strong enough compared to Poo and, while not 100% error free, WAY more responsible than Pou.

Boyle - Bras - Zuc
that's the ticket.
I'd trade rights on Pou, but if he is UFA, it's zip to less than negligible, let him walk.

Getting Boyle back happy on 1 yr only for a good #, move Dorsett for late 2nd (Col's late 2nd from Flames), and also dumping Pou [no pun intended] out of the equation will save us $$ and repurpose assets wisely, instead of losing, e.g. letting Boyle walk.

Bern, Boyle is going to get multi-year offers upwards of $3M. Why would he accept a 1 year "tryout" deal for below market value?

There is no way in hell I'd give Boyle over 2.5 let alone approach going to 3 or more for him.. and i really like what he brings.

Boyle's a goner. Someone is going to overpay him and he's looking for a bigger role. We've seen what happens when he gets a bigger role. He's the perfect fourth liner.

here is my goofy "nothing's changed" line up. It'd be nice to get ourselves a top center but I'm not sure what assets we really have to give anymore........

Hagelin-Stepan-MSL
Kreider-Brassard-Zucc
Boyle-Moore-Nash
Miller-Lindberg-Fast/Dorsett

......Boyle mentioned that he wants a bigger role on the team. Promote him and Moore up to the third line and give them Rick Nash. Moore has shown a lot of creativity and with Boyle they just always seem to create a lot of room. How many good opportunities did Dorsett get this season?.......

You want Nash with Moore and Boyle? Okay then.

I realize most people in this thread are talking about UFA signing and trades but in a world where we make absolutely no additions to our roster, I would absolutely try that out. I think the playoffs painfully showed that Rick Nash is a time and space player. Given those, he is dangerous so you have to give him linemates who can give him both of those things. Kreider and Stepan play a style that requires Nash to constantly hustle and while he'd have to still with Boyler and Moore, I think they'll be able to take the bulk of that work and he'll have more space to do what he does (or is supposed to do) best. He's still getting PP and PK minutes so it's not like I'm saying we'd only play him 14 minutes a night.

Question for the CBA experts. When a team agrees to pick up a portion of the contract when they trade a player, are they only picking up the salary for the first year or through the rest of the contract?

I love it. It's like reading someone's stream of consciousness.

It's because RB is a robot. His central computer is linked to the internet, automatically sifting through thousands of websites every second to find any hockey related bit of news.

Rest of the contract.

.

Guess you didn't bother to read what AV told Boyle last week:

Center Brian Boyle expressed that he would like to play a bigger role next season and will be seeking that opportunity as an unrestricted free agent after being told by Vigneault today that if he were to return he would remain in the same role as a fourth line player and a penalty killer

I seriously doubt Sather can promise Boyle anything other than a contract. Vigneault is not going to get overruled on this one.

But you're not really interested in reality anyway.

Just a big time, hearty, LOL to anyone who considers Pouliot indispensable. Most overrate 35 pt forward I have ever seen. I would pay Boyle 2.5M over Pouliot.

First off see the post above about AV's comments to Boyle last week: Vigneault is not interested in having him move up on a regular basis.

Second, I don't consider Pouliot indispensable. The question is who replaces his size on the LW with Brassard and Zucc? Don't say Boyle, he's going to test free agency and will probably get a much better payday along with a 3-4 year contract.

When Boyle leaves, would anyone be interested in Komarov? Good PKer. Pain in the ass. Good skater

I'm interested in any player, preferably with size, strength, and a good head on his shoulders, that can come cheaply and fill Boyle's roll if we lose him.

It is going to be a tall task, IMO.

This isn't like Prust, a no talent plug. Boyle legitimately has a skill set that can sway a game one way or another based on his defensive game, penalty killing, shot blocking, forecheck, and mentality of do what ever it takes to win.

It's easy to poo poo at a 4th line player, but those guys are what makes a team deep enough to contend. Give your top guys some rest, give the coach confidence in his whole lineup.

I have a strange suspicion that RB is actually Larry Brooks. He tried to throw us off the scent a couple of days ago when he questioned an article that Brooks wrote... but i'm on to him. :)

I think you have to look at the premise was last year a fluke or were we in the Finals and could easily be again if we get another Good playmaking Center.
I believe the time is now to make a splash and go for a Stasny or Spezza.
-Hank is not getting any Younger
-Is Nash the player we want or do we need to trade him within the next 15 months?
Building a stronger offense, by taking a gamble to bring in the Top Center should tell us this.
We are not happy with just going to the Finals this is our chance and we should mortgage the future to try to win within 3/4 years.
Get the Top Center-Trade Staal, Fast/Miller to do it!

I like Boyle but he is not worth anything close to $3m/yr IMO. He seems like a great teammate and is a solid pk'er and checker but he is an offensive blackhole. I don't want anyone with such poor hands and offensive zone IQ near our top three. I can just imagine how many chances he'd kill if he played with Zucc or some other skilled player....
