Can someone tell me what Brassard has done to warrant the $4.5M/year figures I see everywhere? I'm hesitant to give him a dollar over $4M/year TBH, I'd give him a three year $3.7M/year deal and if he didn't take that I'd trade him.

Hell, most outlets has him getting even more money than Zucc who is several classes above him as a player. I get that Zucc is less proven, but I'd rather trade Brassard for picks/prospects and sign Grabovski than pay him what we are expected to pay him.

At the NHL level, Brassard is basically a "skilled plug" 5v5. Good enough to not actively hurt us out there, but he doesn't really add anything either. He doesn't drive play and he doesn't generate offence, the epitome of a passenger. He is a great PP player, but since we insist on burying him on the 2nd unit he doesn't add much value there either.

Grabovski will get too much aswell . I foragers 4 million for brassard over 2 yrs tops . He still needs to be consistent . Talents there though

Grabovski is very underrated. Great 2-way player that can score, perfect 2nd line center - like a slightly worse version of Stepan.

He just got his rep ruined in a shortened season under the worst coach in the league that had it out for him. Hard to succeed under those conditions. He was Washington's best center this season, better than Nicklas "Secondary Assist" Bäckström.

Brassard won't get more than 4m with the current situation. He'd be wise to accept, since he's a 3rd line center and getting paid 4m for his numbers is a fair number.

Brassard's QO is 3.7 mil and there's no way we aren't going to qualify him. He's also arbitration eligible and centered our most consistent line.

If it goes to arbitration, I don't think 4.5 mil is a stretch, but hopefully they can get something done before then at a lower number.

Ideally he's going to be around $4mil and there's little we can do about that. He was our second line center this past year-- not our third and it looks very likely he'll be our second line center this year.

I agree he was basically the 2nd line C cause zucc led the team in PTS and he's his vest Cman

Problem people will have w the lines us pouliott 2nd line lw? He likely comes back but would he do well off that line . Say Nash lw there instead and kreider, stepan , msl first

Leaves hagelin , miller , pouliott . On paper it's a better fit but that's paper

Brassard is a C, too, and generally C's get paid more than wings unless they're elite. For example, James Neal makes $5M. If he were a C, he'd make $6.5M easily. Brass at $4M and Zucc at $4M in my mind means Zucc is more valuable than Brass.

Just how I see it. I'm sure someone will show me I'm wrong somehow.

Also, Brass is really underrated man. You guys...this is the fan base that called him "BrassGod" and praised him all year. Now it's time to give him a contract, and we're playing hardball and dealing him for picks/prospects and signing Grabovski. Signing Brassard is very important to this team, in my opinion. He and Zucc had great chemistry. Everyone thinks it was all Zucc, and I do agree his energy drove that line. But Brass's skill level is being overlooked. I think he can be a second line C, it remains to be seen. I think for Brass 3 years/$12M is more than fair for both sides.

Also, That's not much of a raise on his cap hit. Further, I'd still like to see his TOI with Zuccarrello and his PPG or points per 60 with him on his line. I think it'd be very good. I just don't know where to find such a stat.

I think we could strong arm Brassard into an even 4m if we wanted to.

But these guys, Brass, Zucc and co, have their best "8 years" infront of them. The cap is going up a ton the coming 8 years. Undoubtedly, any 4-5 year contract signed now will be very valuble in 2-3 years. Its definitely worth it to pay a 500k premium now to have a good player under a good contract in 4-5 years.

Yeah I just shake my head to blue bloodeds "skilled plug".. I almost value him as important to this team as Stepan, without him we are ****ed.

What do you guys think of this:

FORWARDS
Chris Kreider ($2.250m) / Derek Stepan ($3.075m) / Rick Nash ($7.800m)
Carl Hagelin ($2.250m) / Mikhail Grabovski ($3.900m) / Martin St. Louis ($5.625m)
Benoit Pouliot ($2.300m) / Derick Brassard ($4.500m) / Mats Zuccarello ($4.200m)
J.T. Miller ($0.894m) / Dominic Moore ($1.500m) / Daniel Carcillo ($0.825m)
Jesper Fast ($0.805m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Dan Girardi ($5.500m) / Ryan McDonagh ($4.700m)
Marc Staal ($3.975m) / Kevin Klein ($2.900m)

I figure Gilbert would get a 2 year deal and Grabo would get a 3 year.

I don't think Grabovski signs for $3.9M per.

A name that keeps crossing my mind is Keith Yandle. We need more offense from our defenders. Yandle is decent but certainly not great in his own end. Can pot 10 goals a season while being a superb passer, especially on the PP. Him in Staal's place, Stralman re-signed.

McD-Girardi
Yandle- Stralman

That's a hell op a top 4 on d. Does anyone think there's a trade to be made? Thoughts?

If somebody can give me one good explanation as to why Nash waives his NMC to leave this team, three wins away from the SCF, I swear I won't come into this thread anymore complaining about seeing Nash proposals.

Get off it.

Pretty much this.. plus I see a big bounce back year.

Brooks is smoking some good **** if he thinks Brass OR Zucc will be near 5M

Honestly, if Brassard is looking at a contract over 4.5 mill, he should be traded. That's what smart teams do. They limit the amount of players that they're overpaying. 4.5-5 for a 3rd line center. Good god.

Yep, people completely forget. His last year for the TML was a joke and embarrassing on their part.

They then bought him out and flipped that money into Clarkson, which still leaves me baffled to this day.

Grabo is a fantastic player. The big problem is TML fans expected him to be their number 1 (similar to our deal with Stepan), but that's not his type of position. He's a very good #2 with a lot of skill and a great work ethic.

Gritty player and good on the power play. I'm a major fan of his. Unfortunately, I think he'll be slightly to pricey for our team this year, unless we moved Nash.

And this is where my Staal for ROR proposal come in. Then move Brassard + Dorsett + 2015 2nd for Yandle.

Kreider - ROR - Nash
Hagelin - Stepan - MSL
Poo - Miller - Zucc
Winnik - D. Moore - Fast
Carcillo

McD - Girardi
Yandle - Stralman
J. Moore - Klein
Diaz

Comes close to fitting under the cap but I did the math in my head.

I wonder if Brassard+Dorsett would get you Yandle.
