I'm hesitant. Unless JT Miller has a unexpectedly phenomenal year, that Top-9 would probably be very 'meh' down the middle. Also unsure about Brassard as the #2C.

Brassard and Boyle are similar in this sense.

Boyle is a fantastic 4C. He's a below average 3C.

Brassard is a fantastic 3C. He hasn't proved he can be a good 2C.

Here in lies the Rangers biggest conundrum this off-season.

What is with people and wanting Brassard to be the #2 center here?.. He's never put up 50 points in his life.

Not to mention it makes Miller the day 1 3C. He's not ready. Our depth down the middle would be atrocious if we do not add a real 2C in the off-season.

ROR
Spezza
Get Creative and do something outside the box.
Kesler
Thornton

That order.

I'd rather have Brassard as the 2C than give Stastny a dumb contract...or make a dumb trade for Thornton/ROR/whoever the next flavor of the week winds up being.

Honestly, even if JT does do a grab job as a Top-9 center, (which we've been given no reason to think he would, yet), Stepan/Brassard/Miller/Moore is still kinda crappy center depth. I'm not necessarily against going this route, though.

Just a question: why Spezza over Kesler and Thornton?

If its because you'll think Spezza will cost less than Thornton, that's fine...but I don't understand how people can cringe at the thought of getting Thornton but advocate getting Spezza.

cost would be much less for a Thornton, in part because Spezza is in the East.

with the Leafs having a fire sale (everyone but Bernier/Rielly/Kessel/forgot the other guy), would anyone be interested in Franson to pair with Mcdonagh on the PP?

so are people gonna snap if its

Kreider, Stepan, Nash
Pouliott, Brassard, Zuccarello
Hagelin, Miller, St. Louis
Fast, Moore, Dorsett/Carcillo

McDonaugh, Girardi
Staal, Klein
Moore, McIlrath
Falk, Diaz

Lundqvist
Talbot

cause I think thats more likely than a big deal

What do they use the $ of Richards on then?

Not gonna snap, but Pouliot-Brassard-Zuccarello as the 2nd line scares me. They're an absolute ****-show defensively, and have been getting very cushy match-ups in the regular season & playoffs.

Honestly just short of a trade centering around a Staal package, this is the only option due to the cap. No one out there who they could bring in cheaply would probably be any better than Miller in the long run, and those who would be (short term) would cost a hell of a lot more.

Unless they have some big trade planned, they need to work through the Miller growing pains.

and not if we're paying 4.7M for him (which is what people have speculated based off the Little contract) on here... I'd take Stastny for 6.6 over Brassard for 4.7 and I dont even care to have Stastny all that much.

I don't mind Miller as the 3C, but if we do that, we need someone better than Brassard as the 2C..

The only problem I see with this roster, is it is at best, as good as last years. Without Stralman I find that to be highly unlikely. Unless Miller and Wrath decide to have monster rookie years.

You guys are really fooling yourselves if you think we're not making a big move in the offseason.

We just came off a SCF appearance and cut the biggest splash signing we've made in a long time.

Sather's M.O is making the big splash.

2c, offense on the blue line. 2 splashes.

Yep, Zucc and Brass would get paid. Hell maybe even both Stralman and Staal. Kreider gets a bridge. Moore re-signed, minor pay raise. Pouliot, same.

I don't have any problem with this.. if we can't upgrade within reason at center or the blueline.. so... just dont think Brassard and Zucc are worth long term investments quite yet (Brassard, more so than zucc)

Add Stepan as his game stands to that mix. Elite 2C, Pretty good #1. I think this year he solidifies that #1 spot though.

The cap is a reality though. To make a splash in either department will cost the opposite of a splash, a sizable downgrade, in some other department. This isn't a UFA day where Sather has an infinite amount of money and space to sign whoever he wants.

Maybe Sather, Gorton, whoever is in charge, is learning the value of your own young players playing above their contracts. Seems like Gorton has always understood this. Maybe he's getting a little more of the reigns.
