good lord. please don't let Jordan Staal and his horrendous contract be the backup plan for Kesler

That's not going to happen. That would be really, really stupid for them to trade him. If anyone is going, it's Cam Ward.

It'd be hilarious if the Pens and Canes swapped Sutter and Staal again.

I don't see how they can trade J Staal without pissing off Eric.

If Carolina wants to shed salary, why not try to acquire Skinner? I'd sooner pay the Kesler ransom for a 21 year old who's signed for 5+ seasons.

I just don't have the time to watch Oilers games, or I would go watch him play. That's why I'm trusting your judgement. You're usually pretty spot on with player evaluations when I get a chance to see the guy play as well.

I basically watch Pens, Leafs, Oilers in that order. Most of the time when I watch the late games, I watch the Oilers.

All I can think of is that Hemsky used to be injury prone (ironically from throwing his body around), and he is a Euro, so the ignorant among us label him as a soft player.

He'd help this team, zero doubts. But they need help beyond him, obviously.

Well he'd fill our mandatory Czech quota at least.

Watch Homer do something crazy and get Kesler and Edler.

That wouldn't be the worst scenario IMO. The price tag would be huge.

It would suck to see Kesler go there but Edler would get badly exposed on that blue line

Seems like in years past there would of already been a bunch of trades by this time, there are a bunch of rentals that have to get moved, should be a crazy 28 hours.

Martin Brodeur to Minnesota may be happening. I sure hope Vokoun can actually play or Ray Shero is missing someone who just by practicing with Fleury everyday could really help him in the playoffs.

I don't think it would bother me if Flyers gave up something like Schenn + Laughton +1st round pick for Kesler, Flyers def and goal tending is so bad, i don't think Kesler would make the Flyers a cup contender.

Kesler doesn't make us a Cup contender either, but it's a damn good first block in terms of rebuilding this team, or Philly for that matter.

Hopefully, at four o'clock on this thread's #1 portion for the pens, it says this

Players brought in >> zero
Draft picks brought in > none
Assets shipped out > none

This team is not a cup favorite and it will have trouble getting out of the first round. Flyers, NYR, Leafs, Caps, Devils, Wings, Mtl, could easily beat them.

When 1/3 of your D is Orp and Scuds, you are in major trouble.

Do nothing and save your assets for next year.

For this team to go far in the playoffs, #29 will have to play better than King Henry, Quick, and Rask combined. And who thinks that can happen. Forget about this year and plan for next year. do

What a post.

How exactly does Kesler not help this team going forward, as well as right now?

Bylsma is still the coach, so no one assumes they are a contender but there will be a Post-Bylsma era and Kesler might fit in very nicely.

We definitely have glaring holes and probably too many to fill, but you're joking with that list of teams right? The Penguins, as thin as they are depth-wise, would absolutely destroy NYR, Leafs, Caps, Devils, and Wings in a series.

I'll actually give you Tampa, who you didn't mention, but other than that you've got the Flyers and Bruins. Those three I would be worried about and maybe MTL. That's with our team as it is now. I'd strike MTL and TB off that list if we added Kesler. Plus Kesler is going to help us this year AND going forward. It's not like if we get Kesler we're not allowed to make any more moves in the next year or two.
