OT: I think this will be the roster for Belarus

Andrei Kostitsyen - Mikhail Grabovski - Sergei Kostitsyen
Sergei Drozd - Alexei Kalyuzhny - Dmitri Meleshko
Aleksandr Kulakov - Nikolai Suslo - Konstantin Koltsov
Alexei Ugarov - Andrei Stas - Sergei Demagin
Konstantin Zakharov

Vladimir Denisov - Viktor Kostyuchenok
Sergei Kolosov - Nikolai Stasenko
Dmitri Korobov - Andrei Karev

Vitali Koval
Maxim Malyutin
Vitali Koval

Ovechkin-Datsyuk-Semin
Kovalchuk-Malkin-Radulov
Kuznetsov-Anisimov -Tarasenko
Zaripov-Burmistrov-Yakupov
Grigorenko

I think Anisimov is better than Shipachyov, even on big ice. Zaripov as awesome as he can be, I have my doubts about him in 2014.

Kulyomin, the way he is playing right now- will almost certainly not make the team. He needs to be a standout player that he was last season.

And then there is Zherdev, so much skill.. hopefully he continues his path on fixing his priorities.

DENMARK

Mikkel Boedker - Lars Eller - Jannik Hansen
Nichlas Hardt - Frans Nielsen - Nicklas Jensen
Morten Madsen - Peter Regin - Mads Christensen
Oliver Björkstrand - Julian Jakobsen - Thomas Spelling

Philip Larsen - Oliver Lauridsen
Jesper Jensen - Stefan Lassen
Mads Boedker - Daniel Nielsen

Frederik Andersen
Patrick Galbraith

All in all a pretty competitive Danish team, IF they qualify.

Changes can and will prolly occur, these linups are based on performance over the last 2 years. We will prolly see more of the U18/U20 guys compete for the lower spots.

How I would shuffle the danish forwards for Sochi:

Difference between optimum danish team and current one for the WC is most obvious in the forward line.

Sadly of the top 9 forwards, we have lost 4: Regin to shoulder injury, Bødker in playoffs, Jensen with concussion. and Christensen with a probable severe migraine (the last two just before the WC).

Let's hope that we can qualify to the olympics and have something in the style of this. It's not really so important which ones we call line 1-2-3 since there is two years to go before Sochi.

Nichlas Hardt (Jokerit) - Frans Nielsen (NY Islanders) - Jannik Hansen (Vancouver)
Note: "Stonewall". This line will be able to defensively withstand almost any line thrown against them and still be very creative offensively.

Mads Christensen (Eisbären Berlin) - Peter Regin (Ottawa) - Mikkel Bødker (Phoenix)
Note: Peter Regin in form has amazing drive down the ice from his center position and I think these two wings will compliment him very well. A primarily offensive line. As noted above all 3 are out this WC.

Morten Madsen (Modo) - Lars Eller (Montreal) - Nicklas Jensen (Vancouver/Chicago/Oshawa)
Note: A good third line both defensively and offensively. In two years time im certain that Nicklas Jensen will be more than ready (damn concussion just before this WC). Madsen should provide power and experience to this line and Eller must be played on the center and not on the wing.

These 9 should be a lock unless the youngsters Thomas Spelling, Felix Meegaard Scheel, Nicolai Meyer, Mads Eller, Kristoffer Lauridsen or one of the Bjørkstrand brothers (Patrick & Oliver) becomes really good in the next 2 years; and what about Nikolaj Ehlers? (but that is perhaps to optimistic for a year-1996 player).

It gets harder on the fourth line, whether you want the remaining best players or just a gritty hardworking line. Julian Jacobsen seems a lock on both types of 4'th line mentioned below.

Best of the rest 4'th line:
Morten Poulsen (Oskarshamn)/Thomas Spelling (Herning) - Morten Green (Malmö) - Julian Jacobsen (Södertälje). Morten Green had a really bad year (for being him), but hopefully he can come back to his usual level.

Alternativ for hardworking 4'th line (here is a lot of options to surround Julian Jacobsen):
Thor Dresler (Herlev) - Julian Jacobsen (Södertälje) - Kim Lykkeskov (Sønderjyske). Just to have some danish league players and with tons of experience as Thor Dresler has.

I sadly don't have any more confidence with Kirill Starkov (Oskarshamn from 2013). He is not hardworking enough for a fourth line position and both Nicklas Jensen and Morten Poulsen or even Thomas Spelling would currently be better 3rd line candidates. Starkov only seems to fire up when Denmark play Russia?! How can 95 kg of Russian Bear be hibernating this long? I really hope this ex-AHL, ex-KHL, ex-Elitserien player can get his game back on track and not let his ?frustration/depression? over lost NHL opportunity with Columbus ruin the rest of his career.

For the defence we are almost optimum at this WC. Philip Larsen (Dallas) is still our only really good defender.
For the future it will be interesting to see the development of the two Lauridsen Brothers (Oliver in Philidelphia and Markus in Saint Cloud State Uni.). Simon Grønvaldt (Rødovre) might also be an option in two years.
For goalies Frederik Andersen (Frölunda) and Patrick Galbraith (Blues) seems certain.

Aside from Team Canada and Team USA, the other power nations have regressed overall. They lack depth where Team Canada has an abundance of talent. Doesn't really mean anything since in this type of tournament, it's all about being hot at the right time.

Edit: Who knows what will happen in two years though?

Pretty sure Sondre Olden, Scott Winkler and a couple of more of todays youngsters will be in the run for a roster spot.

Olden and Winkler wont play in Sochi. Olden needs to be on a top 2 line.

1st line Skrøder - Thoresen - Zuke
2nd line Spets - Bastiansen - Olimb

Roy Johansen wont change those two lines. Im 100% certain.

I rly cant see any of em making the third line Røymark - Hansen - Holtet

U shouldnt make changes on a winning team :)

wow. who would have thought it that after just a few years this roster would be absurd. the mentions of such current and former nhl players as Filatov, Frolov, Grachev and Loktionov are truly mindblowing

Yeah, my projection is very different right now obviously. Although I'm no giving up on Filatov yet. He's still pretty young and a had a strong finish last season.

BTW, don't be surprised if Bilya invites guys that you don't expect. So far, he has shown that he doesn't judge players based on their name recognition and stats, but rather whether or not they fit his system.

Should I take it as a sign the US is so deep at D that Shattenkirk hasn't even been mentioned yet, or just that he's falling through the cracks?

Oh, and while I know putting them on the same line wouldn't happen, Team USA could run a Brown-Backes-Callahan line. That line needs to exist right now.

the US imo will likely have the best group of players to pick from on the blueline then any other country...

just very skilled, fast, and offensively inclined for the big ice...we just saw how well some of those did at the WC and the bigger ice..

Faulk, Carlson, Shattenkirk. Goligoski, McDonagh, Gardiner, McBain, Fowler, Petry, Leddy, J. Moore, Bogosian, etc are all going to make life a living hell for whoever needs to pick this US blueline.... I cant wait to see how mobile they really do go

Was going to post Sweden's but this is exactly what I would have put, but switch Edler for Hjalmarsson. I'll give Canada a try:

Stamkos-Crosby(C)-Perry(A)
E. Kane-Giroux-Benn
Toews(A)-Tavares-Spezza
Eberle-Nugent-Hopkins-Hall
Neal

Letang-Weber(A)
Keith-Pietrangelo
Doughty-M. Staal
Myers

Price
Ward
Lou

Spezza is a bit of a downgrade from Bergeron in the backchek-defensive department but is just as good at faceoffs and destroys him at offense. Obviously there are a lot of ifs around that Oiler line. Crosby's health could be a factor but I think he'll be fine. The D are rock-solid. Price should start.

The one thing that worries me is that we are going to try and send a team of power-forwards to play the big ice, and get shmucked like we did in Turino.

Gold Medal Game

Tavares - Crosby - Stamkos
Benn - Giroux - Seguin
Kane - Toews - Sharp
Hall - Nugent-Hopkins - Eberle
Skinner

Pietrangelo - Weber
Keith - Doughty
Staal - Letang
Myers

Price
Ward
Smith

vs

Landeskog - Backstrom - Eriksson
Sedin - Sedin - Silfverberg
Hagelin - Zetterberg - Franzen
Steen - Berglund - Hornqvist
Johansson

Kronwall - Karlsson
Edler - Ekman-Larsson
Enstrom - Larsson
Hjalmarsson

Lundqvist
Markstrom
