For Russia I would predict:

Ovechkin - Malkin - Semin
Kovalchuk - Datsyuk - Filatov
Tarasenko - Loktionov - Kabanov
Kulemin - Anisimov - Grachev

Markov - Volchenkov
Kulikov - Nikulin
Voynov - Tyutin
Grebeshkov - Korneev

Varlamov
Bryzgalov
Bobkov

You don't think Frolov and Radulov will be there??

The amazing thing about 2014 is that the USA is rapidly developing so much talent that it might be he first time you look at the guys that get left off Team USA the same way you look at Canada: as guys who you could make another competitive team out of. Right now Canada's B-team would be among the favorites to win a medal, and in 2014, I anticipate the USA will be the same way. Kudos to the USA developmental program, they've been doing a great job in recent times.

I realized the same exact thing when I was making that list. It felt crazy to leave some of the guys off.

for the one wondering just how good thornton and heatley will be in 4 years. thornton will be 34-35 by the time the next games roll around. yes i know that is a long time in a players career but:

atleast with thornton he doesn't play a game, that involves the use of speed, and his hands and on ice vision won't decline that much in 4 years. thornton, in the nhl (unless something drastically changes in his game), will be able to probably put up another 5 or 6 maybe 7 elite seasons before starting to decline.

I agree almost completely, except I would sub Backes for Booth or Wheeler and I would fit Fowler in there somewhere. Even if he can't crack the top 6 I can promise you he will be better than Stuart, even at 22.

Except Stuart brings the pain better than Fowler does. If it's an NHL size rink I say its a tough call but since it's in Russia, I'd go with fowler.

Obviously right now it's a stupid idea, but 4 years from now why not? He certainly has the talent. It's just a matter of development.

Gilroy is 25 years old. How much more development do you expect from him. Only one D-man from this year's roster (Rafalski) is older than Gilroy will be when Sochi rolls around.

Certainly the projection on offensive depth is iffy, but I think Sweden's defense and goaltending should be very good. Another top 4 team.

I don't see the iffy part, that's a fine looking offense. But I would agree that the d is more impressive. If most of them pan out it is in fact quite insane.

Good grief, not only have you people gone nuts over the two weeks of glorified All-Star exhibition games going on in Vancouver, you're starting to babble on about exhibition games four years from now. With any luck, the NHL owners will prevail and we'll have no more of this nonsense.

Your predictions for the 2014 Olympic Teams

Quite Self-Explanatory, what teams will drop from 2010 and what teams will be added in 2014?

I predict that someone will prematurely make a thread about the 2014 Olympics before the preliminary round is even completed in the 2010 Olympics :sarcasm:

Scott Niedermayer will be captain for 2014 and possibly 2018, but don't get your hopes up about 2018 :sarcasm:

Sedin-Sedin-Zetterberg
Lander-Backström-Pääjärvi
Eriksson-Berglund-Franzén
Tedenby-Ömark-Bergfors

Kronwall-Hedman
Enstrõm-Hjalmarsson

I said before this tournament began that USA is a strong darkhorse here and will be a frontrunner for 2014.

For the Czechs...Not certain, but maybe NHL heavy with:

Havlat-Krejci-Frolik
Erat-Plekanec-Hemsky
Michalek-Hanzal-Fleishman
Cervenka-Hudler-Voracek
Olesz

Smid-Hejda
Klesla-Polak
Zidlicky-Kaberle
Kuba-Michalek

Pavalec
Swartz

I would like to hear from Czechs more familiar with the system at home in regards to this.

USA is looking good for 2014... I think Cam Fowler's chances of making the team are pretty good. If he makes the NHL next season, he'll have three and half years of NHL experience before the Olympics.

A lot of people might argue that we are expecting too much of defenseman that are being drafted early right now... but I agree that Fowler will probably make it.

I don't think people here have really watched the kid other than the WJC, he is an absolute stud.

Last year Duchene didn't get any hype because of Tavares and Hedman...

This year I think Fowler isn't getting as hyped because of Hall and Seguin...

im gonna go out on a limb and say Blake Wheeler will be on Team USA in the next olympics. I think he'll be a great player in 3-4 years...just in time

My attempt at Slovakia 2014, with age during Sochi in brackets.

Other possibilities: Mihalik (27), Valabik (28), Ceresnak (21).

Goaltenders:
Halak (27)

I really hope Tavares is on the 2014 Canadian Olympic Team because that will mean he has played well enough for the Islanders to be there....and I guarantee Okposo will be on the 2014 USA team. He should have been on it this year.

I wonder how Slovakia would have done in 2006 with Halak there, or in 2002 with a goalie like Halak and all their players available.

The US won't be favourites in 2014. In fact they likely won't even be the 2nd best team on the ice.

The Russians should be good once again but on paper Canada will be the best.
