2014 Draft - 3rd OV: Leon Draisaitl

Draisatl looked pretty pumped when he was asked about playing with the likes of Hall, Ebs, and Nuge. I guess he'll have to settle with Perron and Yaks. Poor guy! :D

This is THE piece of the puzzle that we have been lacking for years. I like the way this team is starting to look now.

I can't make too informed of an opinion. Hopefully the kid pans out.

I just hope the pick wasn't too influenced by size. Does anyone else feel like size in today's NHL is vastly overrated? Everyone talks about size, size, size. But I just don't see it as that important.

Nothing against the Deutschland Dangler though. Could be a good fit.

Size and Skill but people are worried about something that can be fixed.

Typical.

Agreed! This was not only the best possible player he fits a very glaring hole at 2 line C as well.

Next on the list sign Kulimen and Grabo to 3 year deals and run three scoring lines.

Sign or trade for a 2/3 defenseman preferably on a short deal. Boychuck anyone? Still need a few pieces but we'd look like a legit nhl team NEXT YEAR. You're up MacT.

If Bennett reaches at least 200... Bennett is easily the better player.

If your aunt had testicles she'd be your uncle. Draisaitl is 213lbs. already and looks to still be growing. He is well clear of 200lbs. already and has a frame capable of carrying more weight.

I like Draisaitl I also liked Bennett, but I think Draisaitl is the better pick for us.

I know if for some reason Draisaitl does not work out there will be a ton of people saying we should have taken Bennett and everyone said we needed Bennett but we picked Draisaitl instead.

If Bennett doesn't work out of course all of those people will disappear and we'll never hear about Bennett again.

My hope is that Draisaitl workout for us and becomes a dominant centre. I hope he makes every Oilers fan forget Bennett....and Ekblad too ...hopefully.

This is why building around RNH was stupid. Now we have to pretend some kid who is like 6'1 210 is a big 2C despite the fact he looks like he's wearing rollerblades on this ice.

please show me your crystal ball. seriously how can you say that so surely.

I've never understood why some people like to trot out this response.

Check how many guys have won an Art and a Hart in the last 20 years. That's how you can be sure.

No one thought Kopitar would be as good as he is now, he had the same question marks that Draisaitl has about skating and he didnt develop his Elite defensive game until after he was drafted. Draisaitl's question marks can be fixed, Bennett's can be too but size cant be taught and Draisaitl can still become a 6'3/6'4 225+ Center, those kind of players are extremely rare.

It is, big teams don't win over smaller teams. that being said I am starting to think Draisaitl will fit the team better. Perron and Yaks need a guy to dish them the puck and create room. I hate the fact that Calgary may have got the better, or higher ranked, player, but at the end of the day you have to get the guy who makes the Oilers better.

Actually, I wouldn't mind keeping Leon away from the NHL. But that's just me.

Bennett honestly isn't that good. Yakupov was even more competitive than Bennett (he smashed someone through the glass) and look what happened to him.

Size is important in our division after watching LA and Anaheim rag doll us every time we face them

People complaining about Draisaitl being drafted are crazy.

He's a good playmaker and he's got the size we need.

Is Bennet going to be a good player as well? Probably. But we need some guys who can push their weight around in all 3 zones and you can't expect Bennet to do that for the long term before his body starts paying the price.

So happy right now! Welcome to the Oilers, Draisaitl!

He's 6'2" 213lbs. and looks to still be growing, what is he? A smurf? Who would you have taken over RNH? Couturier? That would've been a joke.

@nielsonTSN1260
Eakins told Draisaitl he wasn't going to give him the hat cuz it would ruin his hair. For real and that's awesome.
