2014 Draft - 3rd OV: Leon Draisaitl

If your aunt had testicles she'd be your uncle. Draisaitl is 213lbs. already and looks to still be growing. He is well clear of 200lbs. already and has a frame capable of carrying more weight.

So as a big man yourself BB, what are your expectations of his size potential. To my fairly untrained eye, he does not look like he weighs 213 lbs, so he wears it well...which is a good thing for an athlete. I'm figuring on a good 235 - 240 pounder when all is said and done with this kid. Hold the fries.

Size is important in our division after watching LA and Anaheim rag doll us every time we face them

I hear that. I guess I just remember the hype around Lindros because of his size/skill combo. And while he ended up being a great player, he never lived up to all that hype. The size overrated him. And Gretzky looked like a teenage girl.

Should probably put this here as well:

It's surprising it got through their screening process.

I am fine with this pick the one thing is we have to look at the pick overall in how it relates to THIS team, not Calgary (getting Bennett)

1) the organization has to look at adding different dimensions to the team (Leon's a different player than this organization has)
2) has to look at character, mental toughness (the quality of the person in general)
3) ability to handle pressure, have a winning attitude.
4) since its a given he has talent how does he complement the other players around him.

Once Ekblad was gone it was a no brainer for the Oilers.

I am not sure what type of NHL'er Draisaitl will be but the Oilers had to pick outside of the cookie cutter centres they had been choosing.

The need for a big body determined this pick.

It will be interesting to see if it was the right pick because Bennett is a hell of a competitive player.

Reisen was once the highest drafted Swiss player ever...

Naw, just kidding. 105 points in the Dub is nothing to laugh at.

Lol at Size over Skill. I think people are forgetting that Draisatl is actually probably the most skilled player in the draft, definitely moreso than Bennett. Only thing Bennett has on Draisatl is speed, which isn't even that bad. Getzlaf and Thornton are not fast.

Can the Oilers please stop bringing out Katz's kid. It ******* embarrassing.

Well...the organization is embarrassing so its kind of fitting.

For me the novelty of Katzs kid standing on the podium wore off after the first time it happened.

@MitchMoroz
Was never a lot of fun playing against @Drat_29! Glad to have him on our side now. Congrats and enjoy the day!

Did I get knocked into an alternate universe where Bennet is inarguably better than Draisaitl? Seriously, I came round to having Bennet ahead of the other forwards, but it is close enough between the two that getting upset over either is asinine.

To make some of your guys feel better.

@NHLFlames: After visiting #yyc, @SBennett93 told his parents, 'I want to be a Flame."
