2014 Draft - 3rd OV: Leon Draisaitl

I just had a peek at a highlight video of the newest Oiler...even if he's not going to break any speed skating records, one thing stood out to me immediately: this kid protects the puck and cannot be moved off it. This is an area that has been sorely lacking on this team.

Dallas sure gave him the ol' "handshake-pull 'em in tight" conversation.
He reminds me of a very skilled and tough Hartikainan. He was good at not getting knock off the puck.

Fc** the Oilers pick, another bomb this organization has dropped, Bennett to Calgary, and we get a player barely an inch taller and a lot less competitive and slower , Mark my words we fc*** up this pick. Calgary was all over Bennett running up to the podium.

lol,this guy.

I don't see how this is bad at all. Kid had what... Tied for the most points out if everyone in the draft, was on an offensively **** team and is big and tough to begin with. He is exactly the kind of center our team needs.

Yes!! We get the big center! Honestly, I don't see Bennett's game translating at all

Joe Thornton was a hart winning, art ross winning player. Draisaitl isn't going to be that. Even if he reaches his top potential.

The chance of any player in this draft winning a hart is, in my opinion, not great. Obviously, Joe Thornton is a special talent - but in terms of a big guy who protects the puck well and has an elite pass, I can see Draisaitl being in the same conversation at least.

I like the pick. Admittedly, I haven't been following this year's draft much, but skill and size? Sounds good to me.

meh, I would prefer Bennet but it is a coin toss and Drisatl is more NHL ready. The big thing for me is just how good is his vision. Size is nice, but with his lack of foot speed he needs to be able to dish the puck well. Question now is what happens to Gagner? I don't think Mac T will get much for him, but really, Driasatl will be our 2nd line C next year. Where does Gags fit in?

I guess you just need to hope really hard you're right.

Hope he's ready soon and Gagner's ass is anywhere but in Edmonton.
Love the pick. RNH and Draisaitl should be a good 1-2 punch for years to come.

I am beyond thrilled with this pick, people think that he was drafted just because he's big but he is a highly skilled player who adds a lot of what we don't have on this team. I am so happy that management took him.

I'm happy with the pick. Hopefully he gets some good service from Ozil and can work some magic with Muller up front...

Oh wait, my brain is stuck on WC..

Just substitute Eberle and Hall in there or something..:D

jk aside this is the right pick. Wrong order, and we probably could have used him before and it'll take awhile.

What's done is done. We need to develop this kid now. I wanted Bennett, but if Draisaitl reaches his potential... look out. I don't want him near the NHL for awhile.

Hopefully Draisaitl and Yakupov find some chemistry. He might fit well with Perron since neither are the fastest skaters but good at staying ontop of the puck.
