What an absolute ghetto lineup that the Pens are throwing at us tomorrow. Glad I didn't pick that as one of my preseason games, lol

I enjoy watching pre-season games but it is absolute larceny that they charge season ticket holders full price.

I don't even pay much attention to who's on the other side so it doesn't matter much to me who is in the Pens lineup. I generally pick a young CBJ player (e.g. Wennberg, Rychel, Heatherington last night) each shift who I want to watch and I just follow them - see what they are doing without the puck, what areas of the ice they seem to end up in, etc. That's what works best for me anyways, to get me through to the real games.

One of my friends is an agent int he company that represents Cam. I have been told that Cam understood that he wore down last year and that he needed to take a different approach to conditioning this offseason. Indeed, he his agent told him he had to buckle up and get stronger if he wanted his career to continue. Sounds like he was off to a fast start in his first preseason game. It will be interesting to see if his new off season program keeps him stronger thru out the season and avoids those prolonged slumps which he had last year where he looked so tired.

He looks bigger, stronger this year. Not noticeably taller, though. ;)

That suggests a whole different context to the idea of stretching exercises.

If I remember correctly he works(ed) out with St Louis.

My particular theory of Cam's last two years is similar: he starts the year with explosive speed and gradually slows down as he gets worn out and the summer training wears off. Maybe he's changed something in his training to give him more longevity (as his agent recommended), but we won't know until later in the year if it works. I'm certain he'll be playing high octane hockey this fall, regardless.

I wonder how other teams around the league sell preseason games. Do STH get a discount or some other benefit?
Pretty sure season ticket holders in Vancouver still pays regular price. I would assume you could buy tickets off scalpers/craig's list for less then ticket value though.

I asked my Rep about the rip-off prices season ticket holders have to pay for pre-season games, and he said that they have to follow NHL guidelines. Whether that was a cop-out or the truth, I don't know, but that is what I was told.

Be that as it may, the bigger thing that pisses me off is that they make you buy all of them if you buy full season tickets. That's showing gratitude to people that spend their hard earned money on you.

Like the NFL has talked about doing, I think the NHL should convert a few of those pre-season games to regular season games, and shorten the pre-season. Trust me, that would make everyone happy, including the players.

I think 82 games is plenty. What I wonder about is starting to play games 2 days after camp opens. I know guys are supposed to come in in good shape but still it seems that is too quick. To me a bit longer camp and one or two fewer exhibition games would be better but a chance to gouge the paying customer for an extra mill or two is just too good to pass up.

I get what your saying, but for the players and fans, the number of "games" would be the same.

So instead of 8 pre-season games (4H, 4A) and 82 regular season games, you do 4 pre-season games (2H, 2A) and 86 regular season games. The total number of "games" is the same, but you have 4 more games that actually mean something. You could still make training camp as long as you want, but I guarantee you, players will not want a longer training camp. Plus, it would be more fans for more games which = more money for all involved.

I remember a few years back, Lindy Ruff talked about how every NHL coach knows pretty much who will be playing for him when the regular season starts and who the few players are that might be able to crack the line-up. He didn't need 8 pre-season games to figure that out.

Four pre-season games, that I am forced to buy if I want a full season ticket package where I sit, costs me $480.00. I would much rather pay another $240.00 for games that mean something. $240.00 for two pre-season games is much more palatable, while still being a rip-off.

Upper bowl seats were going for $3 on Stubhub.

The issue here is what people who buy season ticket packages have to pay. Everyone and anyone else that buys tickets for pre-season games doesn't pay anything close, unless they are dumb enough to buy them from ticketmaster. I guaren-damn-tee you that I couldn't sell my tickets to a scalper for more then $5.00 for a pre-season game, and they are like $80.00 or so if you buy them at the door.
