It's great how now we have the problem where we need to stick solid players on the 4th line, players that shouldn't be stuck there. It's a good problem to have, and will probably be used as a motivator. Perform, you'll move up, don't, and you'll move down. I feel bad sticking Calvert on the 4th line in my lineup, because he's better than that, but it's amazing how deep we are now. And with all of these hyped young guys, it's going to be very interesting to see who we keep, and who leaves in the coming years.

I agree. If our prospects surprise and develop quicker than anticipated making Calvert a 4th liner that really is a good problem to have. If they don't win jobs out of camp we have the luxury of letting them develop and having multiple, solid options available for injury call-ups. Very excited for CBJ in 14-15...Go CBJ!

I mean, he played with Carl Soderberg in Sweden a couple years ago, pencil him in!

You're really gonna start this?! I mean we had finally got the drama to die down a you just had to make a smartass comment?

No the fact that he was 3rd in pts in the SHL and the fact that multiple NHL teams were trying to get him over to play says something of his abilities.

Oh hush. The guy shared his opinion about a player a lot of guys might be underestimating. No one is saying "pencil him in" necessarily. I personally think we'll all be surprised by what S-Hjal brings in camp. If says a lot to me that Chicago (a perennial contender) was trying to sign him.

He's right in the mix with Letestu/Tropp/Boll/D'Amigo/Gibbons/Wennberg/Chaput for bottom six time. Everyone is going to need to bring their A+ game. While I don't expect it, I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Calvert (unlikely) or Atkinson comes into camp a little slow and starts the season in the press box because some of these other guys are playing out of their minds to prove themselves. I don't know if we've EVER had a preseason with this much competition.

Last year I was an advocate of having Murray and Jenner start the season in the AHL, because of the established players we had in place and there was "no need to rush the kids." We can all see how that went now! If Wennberg comes into camp firing on all cylinders, by all means he can make the team. That being said, I would like to pull a Detroit and have him start in Springfield as a top six center, rather than the likely bottom 6 winger role he would take in Columbus.

Whatever happens, I'm excited for camp!!!

Sure, as he's a plus third liner. On the other hand, if a guy like Calvert ends up on our fourth line (and he's healthy) we reason for optimism. Good reason.

Some people keep penciling D'Amigo in but guys.. he's not even signed. Are there even any indications that we're going to sign him?
He said when he was traded to Columbus he talked to either Richards or Jarmo(maybe both) and was told he would have a legit shot at making the team if he performs well in training camp. I think a contract will be reach. But will it be like Erixon's deal, a cheap contract but a 1 way deal or slightly higher then what Erixon got but a 2 way deal.

He was already qualified at a 2-way deal by Toronto before he was traded, so I'm guessing that's the best he'll get from us.

my only criticism is people going crazy over-hyping prospects and random European guys brought over as depth guys. Trying to bring some grounded perspective as opposed to giving depth guy an "A-Rod" esque nickname

Nobody went crazy over him. Just saying that he definitely should at least considered when predicting lines considering the little information we DO know about him. I am of the opinion he can serve as more than just a depth guy.

For everyone "over-hyping" him, you're doing the complete opposite.

I will agree with you that "S-Hjal" is an awful attempt at a nickname.

In my defense, I was going to type SH, but thought that would confuse someone. Wasn't looking to give a nickname, just way too lazy to type out his full last name!

I promise if he makes the team, I won't try to give him a nickname! :handclap:
