The Rangers need to add size and strength. The Rangers stepped up in class against LA. Lost in 5. You can blame the officiating. Cop out. The Rangers looked overmatched for long stretches. The Rangers need to improve the roster and not concern themselves with just bringing everyone back.

True. Have to get bigger and better

I'd rather build a roster that is throughly suited for a speed game than play the copy last year's champions game.

They need to pick what kind of team they want to be and build that. Don't try to follow in the champions footsteps and change gears every offseason.

Can't have such a one dimensional offense though. This team has struggled to convert on rebounds all throughout regular season and playoffs. Their net presence needs to better, they can't rely solely on speed and scoring off the rush. The most dynamic offenses in the league can score in every which way: deflections, rebounds, passing plays, odd man rushes, tip-ins, etc.

Number 1 is Brad Richards saying good bye.

I would use his cap room and get a real #1 center in Paul Statsny and move Stepan to the #2 center. Stepan is not the #1 center for his team, he can't be.

But the thing is if you go that route you could be saying good bye to a Stralman, Boyle, Pouliot, etc. It may be time for JT Miller to see what he has.. Is Kristo ready?

I do believe this team has another shot at the cup with the right additions. They have a solid defense and Henrik, but you need to decide whether you want to give the young guys a shot while locking up a premiere free agent, or resign what you have and make minor tweaks.

I'm not so sure that will happen. Didn't you hear all the good things Slats and AV had to say about him? I wouldn't be surprised if Richards returns as our new captain.

Buyout Richards, trade Staal and possible package for a center if possible. Resign, Zuc, Kreider, J Moore, I suppose brassard as well depending on how much. Attempt to resign Boyle, Stralman, Poulliot and D Moore if it's not huge overpayments.

No interest in Statsny, go with Jt Miller at third line center if we don't bring anyone else in after letting Richards go. He is big and strong on the puck, good cycle game, could be a good player if allowed to develop IMO.

I think it would be a huge mistake. That's my point of view. Just based on contract length and how he has declined, I'd rather have Nash than Richards. We will see what happens, but if I am GM I try to lure Statsny to NY.. but who knows.

I like Klein but I don't like him on the 2nd pairing. He strikes me as a tweener. Great on the 3rd pair but not good enough for the 2nd. Issue with him is he's getting paid $2.9 million. My solution is to see if you could re-sign Stralman for around 4 million per. He's obviously leaving money on the table because I think he'll get more elsewhere but if you could get it done for that, do it in a heartbeat. Then flip Klein for other assets whether it be forward help, draft picks, etc so that you open up some space on the 3rd pair. Let Allen or McIlrath man the 3rd pair RD spot.

Klein and Stralman made a combined 4.6 on the 2nd and 3rd pair RD slots this season. Stralman at $4 mil and Allen would be a combined 4.925 this upcoming season not factoring in what else would be in a possible Klein trade. This is just what I'd do. You get to keep Stralman, give Allen a chance, and you don't add that much more salary. Plus, it gives you more time in the summer to evaluate the Staal situation at LD going forward.

Stastny is 28. Hasn't had any injury issues. If we had the money (And maybe we do) I wouldn't have a problem getting him. Just, how much does he want?

I really like Stastny. I bet he would be interested in playing for a Stanley Cup finalist. More term for less $?

At 6 million I would gladly take a 2015 1st, 2nd, and 3rd from a team like the Oilers or Flames (Piles can't bcuz they moved their 2015 1st in the Vanek deal).

Hello McDavid!

Doesn't seem like Burke's kind of player.

He's not gritty at all so not the best example but a guy like Vrbata would be huge for us; a right handed shot that can finish. Need more balance than just Stepan and Dorsett (LOL) as the right handed shots throughout the forward group
Vrbata is UFA and I'm getting the sense he is unlikely to return to Arizona. Buyer beware though...he's only been really productive here, nowhere else.

I'm really warming to a Staal-ROR swap. He replaces Richards salary and then we could use the bonus cushion to add Iginla. I'm loving this forward lineup. Not so much the D.

I'd swap Staal(+) for ROR in a nanosecond myself. Would be the perfect addition to out forward group. Tough and nasty to play against while not sacrificing offensive ability or speed.

Do you think Colorado would consider it? I like Staal, but I think this would be a terrific move. Stepan/ROR or ROR/Stepan, would be two very solid high end #2Cs and both 23.

What about Jarome Iginla on a 1 year deal to play LW (I'm sure he can).

Radim Vrbata if cheap enough.

If we sign Iginla to say, 1 yr/5.5M (Don't know if this works under the cap, just saying)

We could go

Iginla/Stepan/MSL
Kreider/Miller/Nash
Hagelin/Brass/Zucc
Boyle/Moore/Dorsett-UFA

Then a Staal-ROR trade would open the door to moving Miller for a defenseman and you could plug ROR with Kreider/Nash.

Bylsma tried playing Iginla at LW after he was traded to Pittsburgh and it was a disaster. On Boston, Iginla played his natural RW position and had a good season.
