I have two guys who I think the Rangers should target this offseason.

1 - Edler
2 - Stastny

Edler thrived for AV. Stastny would fit this style of offense perfectly.

As with everything, cost will define the outcome.

Would anyone be opposed to a real big trade where we trade legit assets for legit assets? I mean I'm open to trading anyone except McD, Kreider, Zucc, and Lundqvist at this point.

Stastny is more of the same problems at center. Again.

He's an older and lower producing Derek Stepan.

I think there will be some decisions hinging on Sather retiring or not.
I'd have to go with buying out Richards, signing a FA like Moulson for the 2nd line wing then go after a top Center via trade, unfortunately using Hagelin and J Moore as chips.
I'm more curious about Staal's situation. I think Stralman will walk because of the money, he'll be able to get at around 5m per.

Edler I would do... Vancouver is in retool mode, so you'd have to let a few select assets go...

AGain, I'd like to see what they do with the rest of the defense corps... I'm really starting to think Girardi and Staal are on thin ice here.

do not want stastny....AT ALL...STAY AWAY!!!!!

To be honest. I think Miller would be great on that 2nd line. But Stastny would undeniably fit in much better with MSL and Hags than Richie can.

He skates so much better. He has the same tool box and vision. The only problem with him, and it is a big one, is that he is a B+ player that will command an A+ salary. No bueno.

I agree with KMAR. At the end of the day........signing Girardi and trading Staal really pisses me off. Really should've been the other way around.

Why would you think that? Girardi just got a 6 year extension with a NMC. Staal has had 1 poor series, and he's played alright in this one. I don't think either are on thin ice.

So you dump Stralman to take on Edler. That's pathetic.

Yup... I'm afraid we are all going to start really resenting Girardi.

It's already started, actually...

Girardi won't stop us from signing Staal. He may stop us from signing Stralman, but that remains to be seen.

Didn't Edler already say he had no intention of waiving his NTC?

All of these options are nice in theory, but trading for a $5M per Edler vs signing Staal for 750k more per year isn't all that beneficial.

I'm not comfortable with JTM between MSL and hags or kreids

You should be! ATM, JTM is best speed option at pivot.
If we had gone thru the learning pains earlier, we'd have had that speed line ready for the playoffs.

It's like McIlrath, we just gotta bite the bullet and move ahead.

I doubt Edler wouldn't waive his NTC to come to a city like NY. Publicly stating that you won't waive your NTC just eliminates teams that aren't attractive from getting into the bidding.

Staal is one of my favorite players on this team. He played spectacularly the first two rounds. I'm not saying that I would be for a Staal for Edler swap... but there is some undeniable benefit to this swap.

Edler has the capacity of putting up 50 points in a year. If he plays 82 games a year, he's projected to surpass 40, and his ceiling hasn't even been realized offensively yet.

Meanwhile, Staal tops out around 25/30. That's 15-25 more points from a blueliner a year.

I do however think that Edler would be significantly cheaper than a straight up swap for Staal. That would be a super stupid deal because conceivably we should be able to get Edler for less. He had an abysmal year. Unwilling to waive his NTC which will only lower his price more.

But if it were at all possible, somehow being able to pry Shattenkirk from the Blues would be the most beneficial trade I can think of, like Viper mentioned.

Staal also has one year left on his contract. Not sure he'll resign here to be a 2nd pairing Dman.

Don't think it's an ego issue.
Don't know from first hand direct experience, but my guess is he:

wants to get paid
have shot at cup
stay in NYR if things are more or less =
and have meaningful minutes, which to mean means playing enough without killing himself, so 2nd pair is fine if it is a copacetic 15-20ish per night.

We'd have to retain salary, value is off IMO. Also Nash has to waive his clause.

St.Louis won't do this. The need is a dynamic offensive Center. St.Louis has lost the last 2 series when up 2-0 against the Blackhawks and Kings. The difference was Quick and a center that can dish/put the puck in the net. Shatty is a 50 point Dman who is signed to a nice deal and only getting better, while Oshie is THE guy that many St.Louisans love. Not only is he verybgood defensively, had a great year until injury, but he is also a main face.
