The season is officially over. I hope EJ stays out for the rest of the season, so he's 100% next season. If anyone else needs a surgery, now would be the perfect time to get it!

McGinn already had surgery, EJ is down. I think we're on right path. :sarcasm:

Yeah, it looks bad when you have Hejda-Stuart playing in first pairing. ****, this defense should have been fixed 2 years ago, but it still sucks balls. :shakehead We better hope those prospects we have for defense turn out well, otherwise this team will never go anywhere.

Although I think Roy has gotten the best out of this defense, defense has been better for their abilities than our offense, but that's other thing..

Elliott should get some time for sure.

Avs have to decide what they plan for him in the future, and if he is not in the future plans at least give the league a look at him. The risk is there that Elliott struggles, but the risk needs taken IMO

I know the league scouts the AHL as well, but how a player looks in the NHL carries much more weight than how he looks in the AHL.

Brennan comes to mind last year as a similar circumstance (hopefully Elliott will do better up in the NHL though)

As bad as Elliott is in his own end, he's better at it than TJ Brennan. TJ might be on of the worst in his own end in the AHL.

I think they already know how bad the defense is. They've been rumoured to be looking for a defenseman going back to preseason. We can even go back to last year's deadline when Dreger said Sakic was shopping around for a top four defenseman.

Yeah but if you ask Roy he'll say he has players capable of replacing EJ. I mean they think Hejda is a legit #2 d-man that's how delusional Avs management has been as far as their defense goes.

They surround Hejda EJ and Barrie with guys like Guenin, Holden and Stuart and Roy was drooling over that d core before the season started.

Well now with long term injury to EJ, Roy will see how bad that defense actually is.

Roy knows how bad his defence is. He's not going to throw them under the bus though and I think that's a good thing. He definitely wasn't drooling over the d-core.

Stuart was a last ditch effort to improve their dcore. He certainly wasn't their first choice.

But your obviously going to continue being over dramatic so I'm not sure why I'm bothering.

3-8 weeks is an odd time frame. Seems like knee scopes don't usually take that long, but I don't know. He might not be out as long as it seems.

Probably just being safe with the return date. If they drop their next five in a row or something, and clearly put themselves too far out, they won't rush him back.

Also in the article on the Denver Post, Roy stated Winchester was still not doing well and continues to have vision problems. Can't expect him this year or maybe even next year at this point.

EJ and Rendulic slated for late Feb to early March returns.

Bordy..... who knows. Most likely returns for the very end of the season or he's done too.

****ing Dennis Wideman. I was so excited to see Jesse Winchester play this year. Also stupid NHL and their stupid pre-season roster rules.

Pretty cheap interference play in a dangerous spot along the boards. I mean, how do you brace yourself for a hip check like that when you haven't even touched the puck yet? In a mean nothing game for both players none the less.

Two guys going to the same spot on the ice.

Wideman played the angle wrong for the bounce, but if Winchester isn't there he gets that puck clean and already on his forehand to put it back on net. He's trying to keep the zone and prevent Winchester from getting a break down the boards

Kinda crummy it was a preseason game, but I don't see much there to call it cheap. Just unfortunate

As a player there's no way to brace yourself for a hip check in that spot, other than knowing it's coming and jumping around him to the left. He could put all his weight into Wideman, and it's still gonna cork him around and flying into the boards because of where he hit him. He's expecting a shoulder to shoulder battle for the puck if anything, but Wideman goes low on him and spins him around.

Not your normal battle for a loose puck, but a very dangerous play given how fast they were going and how close to the boards they were IMO. The hip check had too much force for Winchester never touching the puck. He's probably gonna get a concussion on that play every time. Not close to the cheapest hit of the year, but still an unnecessary dangerous play that he should have let up on.

No, Wideman feels pressure and shields the puck with his butt, the right play IMHO. He does not see Winchester so it's not a hip check and surely not cheap. Winchester should have bumped Wideman with his shoulder instead of weakly lunging for the puck unbalanced.

I was looking forward to seeing Winchester play this year. Damn shame.

Hope he is able to come back next year and make an impression.

Nothing wrong with that play, Foppa.
