If there was a season to have everything go wrong. This is it. Just look at that draft...

But Pickard will probably come up and dominate and we will make the playoffs. Right?

Varly was playing a much more strenuous style in Washington. Allaire has got him to play much more economical in his movements, so it's a little worrisome his groin injuries have popped back up.

He had that hip injury that kept him out three games last year too, so I wonder if that's connected.

At this point it's a little worrisome, but not necessarily a cause for great concern. If he continues to have lower body issues going into next year, then it will be time to worry about his ability to stay healthy.

Haven't heard anything yet myself but I'd have to imagine it would be a similar timeframe to the last one.

Last time was nearly a month wasn't it?

At this point rest him and let Pickard get some big games in. Time to develop a new goalie.

Guess Roy was right about seeing him again this year... :(

Varly doesn't have groin problem, this is just a master plan for a tank.

And no one is surprised.

Just let it heal this time, let Pickard show if he has the consistency to be an NHL regular.

Don't panic with him. He'll be fine, but just don't rush him.

Varly took a lot of time to recover after his groin issues in Washington. Then we got basically three healthy season from him. Give him the time he needs.

Being so far behind at this point we need to either need to hope on going for a run in Pickard's back or play more for the future.

The season is lost anyways. Give him as much time as possible

Wouldn't they want to have a decent goalie developing in the system? Maybe at some point he could be an asset but nobody is going to trade for a 22 year old prospect goalie.

Kind of leads into a thought/question I had. So let's say Varly is out a while (month or longer let's say) so the plan is probably to give Picks a majority of the starts. What if he does fine but inconsistent? Do they bring someone like a vet in or just live with it and fully admit they've thrown in the towel? It's tough to see them use the contract spot and cap space to scratch out a few more meaningless points but at what point do they waive the white flag. Of course if Picks plays fantastic it's not even a question.

The white flag is going to be ripped from their clutches soon enough, they won't need to throw it anywhere.
