What if this CHL is only a step towards closed league as NHL? So no parallel competition as we believe!

What if it isnt? As long as it is going to be played alongside national leagues, there should not be the issue of closing the league. Should they eventually decide to create a european wide league, then we shall see what it is about, but there is no point in pondering "what if" since there is really no real indication of it.

35$ for an year multi-entrance (per Russian embassy in Finnland)? Give me a break...

You don't even get that paper what you must fill for multi-year visa with 35€. You seem to be able to get max. 1month visa for ~100€, though.

It isn't, so stop writing that complete BS!

CHL is the alternative to KHL for Western European teams who want to stay in their national league but yet experience European hockey.

Nobody in Europe cares if KHL teams are a bit better than CHL teams (best league is NHL anyways) + Russia barely belongs to Europe - not culturally and not political and not geographically...

What makes me laugh most is that all the supporters of a pan-European KHL are complaining about the quality of the CHL compared to KHL but you know what? European fans don't care. Don't KHL fans have any self-esteem??

There seems to be a real fear of KHL not to get any attention in Western Europe (which they don't have currently anyways).

Didn't quite get what you said, but I quoted what they called "fixed rate" on the embassy webpage. I have no idea where 100 comes from.

I know for sure that a Russian visa for a Swede costs 330SEK - did that myself.

It costs much more than that in Germany... and it's a lot of paper work. Russians are just terrorizing Europeans because we don't want to give you guys visa (for very good reasons).

I mean lets face it. Do they really expect that Jokerit fans stay in Russia and run away during their road trip?

Having done that myself several times for my wife I know that it is unpleasant.

But than again, I won't share any tear about it having gone through the procedures of obtaining Schengen visas myself. Although I admit that the more of them you get - the easier it becomes.

(for very good reasons).

I am sure they are...

I like the visa and Chechnya terrorists discussion.

On topic: Idea is good. Europe needs a continental league as KHL is growing more and more. Although I don't understand why no Slovak team was invited (Kosice). They have nice arena and I could imagine 7k-8k spectators on CHL games.

And where can I find so cheap Visas sold for Finns? I did search the internet and cheapest were around 100€ for month. Finnish embassy in Russia? I think the prices are cheaper for Russians because their average salaries.

Merry Christmas!

?? I kind of stopped understanding what you are saying :)

Prices for Russians are irrelevant since I was talking about Russian visas for Swedes.

35$ that I quoted is what I paid in Stockholm for my wife, and also what is quoted on the Rus embassy's webpage in Finnland.

If you search the net, you will find a billion intermediate companies that would collect your paperwork and take it to the embassy for you - and yeas, those will charge 100$ or more.

Vincente, lay off the anti-rissuan rethoric. Its ignorant. Furthermore you're not speaking for the whole EU, if I remember correctly Putin was in Sweden in 2011 or something like that and they were announcing that the VISA regulations between Russia and Sweden were getting eased so travel between the countries was to get easier and cheaper, though I'm not sure how that has materialised. I do now that Sweden is the western country that has most investment in Russia and Russians who travel to Sweden to eat and shop is increasing so much that shops hire russian speaking staff. The Red Army isn't gonna come knocking anymore.

Yup, in Finland, during Christmas time there were 0,5 million Russian tourists last year, and this year it's estimated only to increase. No wonder Finland starts to look three language country in some places, shops want to offer some service on Russian too. 500 000 tourists in few weeks is huge in country of 5,5 million population. Russians seem to have no problem to get Visas. I hope it's made as easy the other way around.

You can go Visa-free with ship for 3 days from Finland, and I think same goes for the Moscow train, but you shouldn't go outside Moscow I think. Should check it from railway company.

The point is that travel between EU and Russia should be visa free: Russian income per capita has exceeded that of Bulgaria and Romania, and is certainly higher than that of many countries with whom EU has visa free travel, like Brazil or Argentina, or Albania or Macedonia.

The true reason is that there is no political will from the EU. It's good old fear of the russkies.

I was checking out the VR website today (planning to take a train to St. Pete via Helsinki), and yes, it is in 4 languages.

Just about anybody in St. Pete has a year long Schengen visa opened in the Fin. embassy, and it is elementary for them to extend it.

But it is not the same for other regions. It really looks like regions that border on EU, like St. Pete and Kalinigrad are given the preference.

Yeah. But in the other hand, you understand that state of the political will doesn't come without a reason. Putin's lead seems bit unaccountable / primitive from time to time. Police beating up gathered people who are showing their will, reporters getting killed, Putin being dictator ect. I think it's just lack of trust in the Russian lead. I don't think it's about the people, its the lead.

Slovan would have been Slovakia's representative but since that deal collapsed, I guess other teams were not strong enough financially?

There seems to be a real fear of KHL not to get any attention in Western Europe (which they don't have currently anyways).

And that's why a certain poster keeps putting down all the other competitions and leagues. Because they make KHL less relevant.

I still haven't gotten an answer to how much KHL pays their champion. Since KHL is supposed to be so much more lucrative than the Champions League...

GUYS, Bring the subject matter back to the title of this post. Discussion of Russian terrorist organizations really isn't appropriate here, nor is bashing other religions and ethnicities.

Thank you.
