Just to remind everyone how important it is to have Russian clubs in such a tourney.

Everyone remembers the European champions cup held in 05-08 ?

All four tourneys won by Russian teams.

Then the champions league in 08-09 featured both Russian teams in the semi finals with Metallurg losing the finals to Zurich.

I saw that the broadcasting rights for Switzerland are also done, with SRG and Teleclub sharing the rights.

Interesting interview with the CEO Baumann as well with him stressing that this will be a tournament built from the ground up. This approach I like, it has to grow organically to make sure it doesn't fall flat by for example one big "player" dropping out. Like with the previous hockey champions league.

Nice to see that sponsorships partners seem to be dropping in as well. Warrior, Intersport, AJ, Cramo and Engelbert Strauss at least.

Let's go EUROPE!

I can't wait for it to start, i hope we can buy a webcast pass so i can watch it in the web
i'm in canada i would love to be able to watch it.

i don't understand this need squeeze some russian clubs in this tournament. i think a financially healthy and strong competitor'd be a boon for the khl. and we can't have it with european clubs slowly stewing in their own national leagues.
We don't need russian teams
yep, that's correct

But russian teams are not participating. So what is a point?

To make it a true European championship, the best KHL teams should participate.

But for making it a successful tournament that brings increasing value to the participating teams, I think Russian participation is not so necessary.

Including Russians also brings increased risks, with economically unstable teams that may or may not fold before the following season, and sponsor companies that suddenly may pull out of their obligations (like the previous CHL).

Any source, or is it just a statement?

If the league proves successful enough there's few reason they couldn't take part next year. The comments I've read from the people in charge of CHL(Finnish people) indicate the door's still open for KHL in the future, even though they could not agree upon participation for the first season.

I think the CHL should just form a closed league. So they can invest in new arenas. If Europe could create their own NHL/KHL then we could truly have a real champions league with with top teams from the 3 leagues. I do not think the NHL is interested in playing in 6000 to 8000 capacity arenas.

TV contact for the UK has been agreed, seems premier sports are aiming to be the hockey channel.

they have NHL, British Elite, Champions League, they had KHL last year not sure if they've renewed that

Shame Premier Sports are terrible.

Also a shame that I don't think I'll be able to get to any games when going through my cruise in the Baltic. Might see if there's any other games on in the leagues then.

The arenas are already the right size for their league, city and country. Besides a lot of them were built by the city or community, not by the team itself.

A closed league doesn't automatically generates more revenue. Most leagues in any sport in (Western) Europe are open, even the biggest soccer leagues where they have huge arenas.

Some see CHL as a step towards a full-season international league, while others wants it to stay as a complement to the popular national leagues/championships.

Either way the teams need larger revenues to be able to get closer to the NHL salary levels.

Hope Stavanger does well. This tournament is rly important for Norwegian hockey. A good experience for some of Our players and something New and different for the fans.

I could also see in the future a european NHL or KHL, but I would create new clubs and not having traditional clubs. The new teams should be in cities with very good tourism infrastructure. Mostly in big cities.

NFL Europe was also a closed league, but it was a failure by the organisator (NFL itself). Although the german teams have increased the numbers of attendances.

The cities with the huge arenas/stadium are mostly famous/well-known. Like Dortmund, Munich, London or Barcelona.
