I have no idea. Its just a ridiculous level of conjecture with no evidence to support any argument one way or another.

What, that Sutter is softer than Staal? That's conjecture?

It was said that Staal was soft, and I'm just pointing out that it was hardly an issue for him. At least not while he was wearing the Skating Penguin. The bottom line is we were a harder team to play against with Staal in the lineup...soft or not.

no, trying to guess what his attitude would be like with an extra 20-30 pounds is conjecture.

I agree about Staal though. H

I wonder if the great Jordan Staal will barely exceed the production of players like Sutter and Letestu again, next season? All while playing vomit-inducing defense? It was certainly a very entertaining byline for me last year.

As for the topic at hand... much thanks to netwolf, yet again. I've been following that guy's camp reports for years and they are always outstanding.

Bryan Rust is the first of the forwards out on the ice. #PensDevCamp

Highland Park Hockey ‏@H_P_Hockey 2h
My main focus of course is on the players projected to play with #WBSPens: Megna, Kuhnhackl, Payerl, Uher. But others will stand out

Highland Park Hockey ‏@H_P_Hockey 2h
Uher with a snipe show goal at one end, while Payerl puts in both of his shots in this drill.

Highland Park Hockey ‏@H_P_Hockey 2h
Kuhnhackl batted in a rebound past Jarry. Good follow by

Highland Park Hockey ‏@H_P_Hockey 2h
Sundqvist with a laser wrister at found its way through Maguire.

Highland Park Hockey ‏@H_P_Hockey 2h
Uher looking good in these drills thus far today. Picked the corners two or three times.

Highland Park Hockey ‏@H_P_Hockey 2h
#Pens prospect @adampayerl starts the rebound drill with a ringer to the top shelf. Heck of a shot. #Oops

Highland Park Hockey ‏@H_P_Hockey 2h
Jarry takes a puck up high during this last drill. He looks fine talking with the Penguins goaltending coach. #PensDevCamp

Shelly Anderson ‏@pgshelly 1h
Goalie Tristan Jarry, who had some discomfort in 1st practice at #Penguins camp, has not returned for 2nd practice. Other goalies on ice.

Shelly Anderson ‏@pgshelly 1h
The goalies, after a few drills with D following full session with Fs, are done, so we won't see Jarry coming on late. #Penguins

Shelly Anderson @pgshelly 1h
Just a guess, but Jarry seemed to have something going on with left shoulder/sternum area. #Penguins.

Highland Park Hockey ‏@H_P_Hockey 1h
Sundqvist the sniper showing his shot is #NHL caliber at #PensDevCamp this morning. Great showing by @sundqvist32 today

Highland Park Hockey ‏@H_P_Hockey 1h
Bylsma pushing Hynes in a drill that will be working on being physical and protective with the puck in the corners.

Highland Park Hockey ‏@H_P_Hockey 1h
Uher with another snipe show high glove goal on a pass coming from behind the net. Quite the celebration by @Uhi92 after the impressive goal

Andy Hughes ‏@PensNation_Andy 1h
Forwards are working on drills where they have to protect the puck in the corner. Guerin & Bylsma are the guys putting pressure on them.

Highland Park Hockey ‏@H_P_Hockey 1h
Troy Josephs and Matia Marcantuoni with nice goals on this latest drill that has players wrap around the net and take a shot in close.

Hynes calls the forwards to center ice and it looks as though the first session is complete.

Good stuff, I have not followed a lot of the prospects in the past as well as I'd have liked, so these write ups are awesome. Trying to temper expectations without actually seeing them play, but hard not to get excited about some of the F prospects, Sundqvist especially.

Tom Fitzgerald on chance of Olli Maatta making the NHL roster this fall: "It will be a tough decision."

That is literally the most pre-packaged, generic answer I've even seen given in an interview. You could ask him about any player under contract at that camp and he'd probably say the same thing. I give Maatta a .05% chance at making the team this year. There's no reason for him to.

Day 4 here: http://www.letsgopens.com/camp_reports.php?id=85

Also, go check out the PensNation and listen to the Tom Fitzgerald audio. Among other things, he lays out the purpose of this week in very clear terms: http://thepensnation.com/tpn/pittsburgh-penguins/pittsburgh-penguins-prospects-camp-day-four-recap/

As far as anyone making the team out of camp, it's not happening: http://www.capgeek.com/penguins/

Pens have 13 forwards signed already. Bennett's the only one on that isn't waiver-eligible. Unless someone's moved, Payerl, Megna, or [insert prospect here] would have to beat out 2 guys to get into the top 12, and he'd have to do so by a wide enough margin to warrant pushing someone else off the roster.

Defense is in the same way. Eight guys once Bortuzzo is wrapped up. Only Despres isn't waiver-eligible.

That said, at least one move is coming. They're roughly $500K over plus whatever Bortuzzo signs for.

There are PLENTY of big players, past and present, softer than Jordan Staal. We currently have one in his replacement.

I Didnt use the word soft. And for a reason. He isn't. But he certainly isn't mean. And with that size ( yes weight too) and playing a bottom 6 role, I would have liked to see more of that out of him

I think Glass and Niskanen are goners, with how much they talk about Payerl and his size and being a power forward that could crash and bang on a 4th line, it seems like they are going to try him there, maybe Megna too, to see if they can move Glass and be ok (which they can, as most of us think).

With Niskanen, I'd rather see Bortz get more ice time.

You would have to assume that if he did pack on the muscle, he would be more inclined to using that new found strength to out muscle players along the boards and to drive to the net.

That's if Sutter can put on some muscle, some guys can't, I remember way back in the day when Army was trying to pack on weight and his doctor told him to eat fast food (McDonalds was his choice). Some guys just can't put on muscle that fast, or rather, bulk.

I am hoping Sutter can, like Matia said about getting stronger, with that strength you don't worry about past injuries and you strengthen areas of your body and you are more inclined to playing the way you are accustomed to.

If Sutter is with the right trainers and nutritionists, he can do it. Fingers crossed that he comes in camp maybe 10-15lbs heavier with added muscle.

Pumping a prospect's tires during a summer camp isn't the same as moving veteran NHLers to make room for them on the big club. Neither Payerl nor Megna are NHL ready, it's as simple as that. They may be in a year or two though.

to be fair, I haven't seen anything to make me believe Tanner Glass is ready to have a positive impact in the NHL either. Worst case scenario, Payerl comes in and sucks at hockey at half the price.

really, I agree. I don't expect these guys to be up.
