Just so I have this straight.

NJ must win all of their 6 remaining games. They can "technically" afford a loss, but the noose becomes even tighter than it already is and they're pretty much choked out at this point. Losing is basically not an option.

Then we need both the Rangers and Jets to pick up no more than 5 points in their remaining games. Philly and Buffalo are no worry because if NJ picks up 12 straight points, they wont be an issue.

We got this.

Yepp you have it straight, if we win Thursday and the Rags lose all of a sudden it doesn't seem as impossible anymore. I really want to at least try for it (though not as the expense of Kovy's health so I am glad he will not play tomorrow if they think that was the wisest move.

I definitely want to kick the Rags out though, so that would be a decent consolation prize.

Honestly, it wouldn't do much for me to knock out the Rangers, unless NJ is taking their spot, of course. Sure, there is the rivalry aspect of it all, but that's the type of **** loser teams have to play for. If the Devils are eliminated by the time Saturday rolls around, I would rather the Devils just lose out and get the better pick. Raining on the Rangers parade because we suck just doesn't do it for me. Ottawa pulled that garbage on us in 96 and I will hate those ****ers till the end of time for it.

Better for the team then losing out. Odds of us getting some amazing top 5 pick aren't that great either, and won't do anything if the team starts next year still mind ****ed after losing 16 in a row to finish the season.

We need to start winning games and end this nonsense, and it would be a nice consolation to ruin the Rags season at the same time. Much rather go for the long shot and try and sneak in though.

I'd rather get a top 5 pick than some 12th overall pick or 15th and wind up getting the next Tedenbust or Bustfors.

Though as I said, knowing our luck we'll wind up with the biggest top 5 bust of the last decade.

I've seen that people are concerned about the losing continuing, but if they win a couple of the remaining 6, how far can that really go? All the mind ****ing has happened already. It's literally been going on for two months and I just can't see a few wins making any type of difference next year. Getting healthy and bringing in players who can actually finish will get them back on track.

Imo, the only way they save face for this year is if they win these last 6. That may not even get them in, but even if it didn't, at least they won't have to go into the summer thinking about all the points they left on the table against utter garbage earlier this season. They've been getting the raw deal lately for sure, but the blame is mostly with them.

Tomorrow may be their last game of any significance this year. I'm just hoping they can win one of those type of games at least one more time this season. After that, whatever.

I'd like to see the team win some games to show some pride, but I'm just ready for this joke of a season to end. All started with a nightmare of a July 1st, and then got even worse with Larry leaving a week later. Even Oates is kind of a loss after how disappointing Shaw has been. At least Oates was a legend. Shaw is just some dude who played some nobody who was buddies with Lemaire.

Then the lockout and all the BS this Fall and early Winter. Now this joke of a season which looked promising in the first few weeks. I'll honestly cherish the last 6 games because I love the Devils, but end wherever it ends I supposed.

It isn't about going anywhere as it is so the team remembers that are able to win and score. When you haven't won in this long, a win or two can do wonders. Losing out is just not acceptable in any way shape or form.

You want the team disappointed, but to have the attitude that "it wasn't our year, work hard fix what we can and try again" not have the attitude "no matter what we do we can't score or win, DOOM DOOM DOOM"

You and me both. Once these final games are over with, I'm taking a nice break from this league and this team. This is easily the least rewarding season I've ever experienced and the sad part is that it doesn't totally have to do with the poor on ice results. Can't win all the time, but this 48 game grind fest never felt like a real season to begin with. I guess if you're going to stink, this is the best year to do it. Let the heavyweight Islander and Toronto teams have their day in the sun.

I get what you're saying, but they're not going to play a meaningful game again for nearly half a year. 6 months from now, the team will likely have different players and this malaise will be forgotten, and so will any late season meaningless win after 2 months of **** results. Maybe I'm wrong, I just think we would be better served with a chance for a better pick. Hey, it works for the Penguins. As much as I can't stand the way they do business, you don't see an * next to any of their achievements.

All that said, i want to see them win every single remaining game. Try to make it in. But if they lose the next two, at that point it just wont matter anymore. Put the kids in and close up shop.

Yeah at least it came in a 48 game season. A joke of a season with this BS lockout that came before it.

The 10-11 Devils made us all proud and smile at the end of the day and we still won the lottery. What teams can we win against I wonder? Philly we usually dominate but who knows? Then we got Florida and they'll start either beer league Crapper who we play like a bunch of ******* against aside from last years playoffs. If not for that POS's pee wee league goal he let in from Clarkson that he should have covered we might even lose that game too. And that was our last win! If not him then we got the Everglades Loch Ness that Dumbass Dineen will put in for them. They have a back to back against us and Boston the next day so who knows?

Problem with that is most of the crap that loses all those games for the Penguins isn't there once they get good. Most of the guys on this team pretty much 'have' to be here next year. That's why they need to get over this now. If they aren't here (Elias/Clarkson/Zubrus) then we have more problems regardless.

Well I just mean that they build their current franchise on one high pick after another. With the way 2011 and 2013 went, NJ has a chance to build with some grade A talent. Larsson is going to be a solid player for a long time and if they can snag another top end player this year, we'll be better off for it a few years down the line. I much rather have the team qualify this year than counting on picks that may never pan out, but they really may be better served not winning. That's why I think it's start winning one at a time and keep yourself alive, but if it doesn't start tomorrow, the plug should be pulled.

The damage is done this year and a couple of wins would be like lipstick on a pig imho. If the players are smart, they will realize that they got bent over the table this season and just move on. I don't care which team you're talking about, if you ask them to play without their two best and most productive forwards for extended stretches, they are going to suffer. No Parise since day one and now no Kovy for 1/3 of the season. Throw in Zubrus being out for 2/3 of the season and this is what you get.

From day one you had players playing out of their proper roles. There was no depth to speak of in January and then when Lou brought reinforcements in, one key player after another went out of the lineup. Throw in some underachievers and it was just the perfect storm of ****.

This is true, and when you do a full autopsy of this season that will be the reasons everything just turned to **** at once.

Thing is when you look at this current streak, and you have seen it too. This team is doing almost everything right and everything it can and as hard as it can and getting NOTHING for their troubles. These players, who will play for us again next year need some kind of return on their hard work over these past 10 games. That is why we need to win games now.

Ideally of course it would be all 6, though 5 would be fine too. I do agree if we only won 1 or 2 more wins it wouldn't change much but you take what you can.

Its ok because players don't think like that and if this group did, they might be the first I've ever seen that mentally dysfunctional. No one operates like that.

I fully expect us to get a win or 2 down the stretch though, if only by luck finally turning around.

If anything, I'd be worried about missing the playoffs 2/3 years and a potential losing culture coming but we made the finals last year so I'm not worried about that yet.
