Brayden Schenn is an extremly promising young player.

Were quite bloated and center anyway , so there really isnt a deal to be made.

I'm surprised how easily some of you are willing to trade Cowen. I know we need more scoring, but at the expense of giving him up? Better be a 65-70 point guy coming back.

The only thing this team needs is patience. We might not be able to replicate this season's result because we could lose both Alfredsson and Gonchar but long term I don't see Ottawa going anywhere but forward.

Before the playoffs started, I did a roster projection for the "worst" roster Ottawa could ice to start next year and it's not too bad. The forward are still shaky and we still need more RHD, but we've iced much worse rosters the past two seasons and done well.

Turris - Spezza - Michalek
Conacher - Zibanejad - Silfverberg
Condra - Smith - Neil
Greening - Pageau - Stone
O'Brien

Methot - Karlsson
Cowen - Gryba
Phillips - Wiercioch

Anderson
Lehner

Our backup players for next season aren't horrible either. Puempel, Noesen, Ceci, Prince, Borowicki, Da Costa, Hoffman, Grant, etc...Even by icing roster that only makes the cap minimum through the grace of performance incentives we are STILL a possible playoff contender. No changes required.

Well "worse". The way you made the lines really makes it look like the worse lol. Turris has never played the wing in Ottawa. If we maintain status quo, the line-up looks like:

Michalek-Spezza-Silfverberg
Conacher-Turris-Alfie
Greening-Zibanejad-Condra
Kassian/Smith-Smith/Pageau-Neil

For the forwards. The addition of just one proven top-six forward can really change our team though.

we should target mike stone from phoenix. Should be able to handle the second pair next to cowen. RFA, phoenix is stacked on the back end. They have 6 NHL dmen already signed and have Stone and Rundblad as RFAs, and also have Gormley knocking on the door.

Methot-Karlsson
Cowen-Stone
Phillips-Gryba
Wiercioch

if we're good carrying 8 dmen, we can sign benoit. Boro and Ceci start in the AHL and come up if needed.

his offense doesnt project to be much more than a bottom-pairing guy, but his defense absolutely does. Would make a good shutdown pairing with cowen, and stay at home to allow cowen a bit more freedom (unlike gonchar, who like cowen gambled a ton).

I haven't seen Stone play much but I don't think he's projected to be much more than a bottom pairing defenseman. I'd rather target Gormley.

Of course you would.

I'm pretty sure Phoenix would much rather keep him aswell.

We should also get the other Kassian, Michalek, and Smith while we're at it:sarcasm:

i dont even care that he's mark stone's brother.

it's just a consequence of looking at phoenix, the best target for sniping a capable RD. Your choices pretty much come down to Michalek, Stone, and Rundblad. One has played for us already and the other two have brothers on the sens.

i think stone's the best to target because he'd be cheapest to acquire in terms of trade value and salary and he's more seasoned than rundblad, but not as seasoned as michalek who (like his brother) is getting older and less effective.

I'd trade Cowen + 1st + prospect for Schenn + Schenn + Briere

Lmao, never.

Schenn's are horrific and overrated. Especially Luke. The others have stated way.

The Cowen+1st for Voracek deal however... I'd think about for a while, in terms of value its perfect, imo. I love Voracek, spectacular player, has speed, soft hands, defensive composure and always gives his best.

I don't know about you guys though but I think Cowen will be a Norris nominee sometime in his career and a guy with his skill set you don't let go away. I'd trade a lot of players including Zibanejad before I do Cowen, just cause Cowen is more vital and important to our future.

If there was a player to trade Cowen for though, I'd be Voracek for me, imo.

Yeah, Cowen is not a guy that you trade.

People seem to forget that he is still getting over major hip surgery.

New rule. Every time someone here decides to trade Cowen it has to be followed by a video of Chara annihilating the Pens forwards. Not that Cowen will be exactly the same as Chara in the end, but some people forget why you never ever trade away D like that.

I would do Cowen for Braden schenn
Both will be good but with ceci and Weirchioch I would do it

Why make this deal with Spezza, Turris, and Zibanejad already manning the centre spots? With Phillips declining, Cowen becomes a very important defensive piece in the Sens' future. Neither Ceci nor Weircoch bring to the table what Cowen does - size, toughness, grit, potential shutdown defenceman with some offensive potential.

I think the problem is we far overvalue our prospects and undervalue other teams' players. Talking about Cowen as a norris nominee after his putrid playoffs and his average first year highlights that.

I would do Cowen and a 1st for Voracek, but I doubt that Philly would. Although I would save that package for a winger that is more of a goal scorer like Eriksson or Ryan.

Can never have enough centers just ask boston

Anyways the easy solution is moving players to wing like zibby or schenn

Cowen will be good but I think schenn will be really good

Also show Cowen actually playing against the Pens to show how far, if ever, Cowen has to go to get to that level.
