I'd rather sign Stalberg than Bickell.

He should be cheaper after these playoffs and imo is the better player.

And he's faster, big and slow or big and fast. I'll take Stalberg over Bickell everytime. Chicago has speed to burn they
can afford to use Bickell, we on the other hand are not fast enough.

He is exactly the same as Colin Greening. If we want that, then sure sign Stalberg. Bickell should only be option if we don't get one of Horton, Clowe, or Clarkson. Bickel addresses the need of a good physical player with a little skill and lots of playoff experience. Whether this postseason is a fluke or not is yet to be seen, but he could be that big strong winger we've always wanted and would be great on the PP. He would be what Latendresse was supposed to do. That said, I would prefer Bolland. He might be expendable after the postseason and would allow Chicago to resign Bickell and would still allow us to shop for a top 6 winger. He would play great with Neil and Smith and bring more grit and offense.

If they don't get a legit top 6 guy there is no point in signing a guy like Bickell. Bickell is a bottom 6 guy who got hot in the playoffs playing with two all stars. Give the opportunity to Stone.

I still think Ryan is our main target. He literally fills every need we want in a top line forward.

Speed, grit, hands, motor, all-around game.

Overrated or not you can't look past 4 straight 30 goal campaigns while being thrown all over the line-up.

You'd have to think that if we do go after a top-end 1st liner we will either get him by packaging first rounder or by signing him(Horton/Iggy/Clarkson?) at july 5th.

We should get our answer by then, tbh. So like the poster above me said, I can't wait.

Rick Nash was traded on July 23rd.

I would say it's the opposite of what you're saying. After the draft and free agency have all played themselves out, then the only means of adding players is through trades. After free agency, teams all know where they stand, what their needs are and what they're willing to give up. Before free agency, you don't know that because you still have a shot at some players.

Zbynek Michalek was traded for a 3rd at the draft (or prior to) last year.. If they had waited til after free agency they probably could have gotten more because more teams would have been in the running.

Everyone knew Rick Nash was getting traded, CLB wanted to hold back for best deal possible. Same as Ottawa with Heatley

There is no clear cut player on the market besides possibly Luongo. Ottawa may dangle their pick as a big motivator to nab the player they want early before other teams start asking about him.

And? You just proved my point, Ottawa would want to pounce early before the asking price gets too ridiculous that we stand pat and do nothing at all.

Also, Murray has always been known for making his trades earlier than people expect. Dealing Rundblad for Turris way before deadline day, acquiring Cullen week before deadline day etc...

Usually before the asking price gets higher than he likes.

And why wouldn't other teams not hold back?

Just saying.... an old guy like Hemsky... well there are overpaid guys like that available on the market. Why give up something in a trade when you have a shot it in free agency?

Cause they aren't getting calls... cause people don't know who exactly is on the market... Usually Murray targets a player and makes a deal immediately instead of wait till it surfaces and others pitch in on it.

Everyone knows Hemsky is going to get traded.

Anyway.

I think we've both made good arguments why moves can happen before, during and after the draft and July 5th. The answer won't for sure come before July 5th. Could be any time. That was my point.

Hemsky is the same age as Spezza. He is not old.

MAK when you turn 30 I hope you do not have an emotional breakdown. 30 is not old.

lool

I probably will. I'll already feeling the effects of old age

My take:

Trading a star player?
Teams are most likely to overpay around xmas to feb

Trading a prospect?
Teams are unlikely to overpay at any time.

Trading a pick?

Teams are most likely to overpay at the trade deadline, but overpay most of the time.

Trading a role player?
Teams are most likely to overpay at the trade deadline.

The more I think about it, the less Eriksson seems likely. He's only 28 and a good building block along with Benn at forward for Dallas. I'd say the only way we get him is by overpaying since Dallas also isn't in a very tight cap situation. Noesen + 1st + good roster player is likely around the asking price.

I'd probably do that, and I'm probably Eriksson's least biggest fan around here

Maybe, I have a bit of a man crush on Noesen. The good roster player might be a guy like Greening.

I would love to get Ryan.

Imagine rolling:
Ryan-Spezza-Stone
Smith-Turris-Alfie
Michalek-Zibb-Silf
Greening-Pageau-Condra
(Conacher,Neil)

Oh man, that's four good looking lines.
