I would love to get Ryan.

Imagine rolling:
Ryan-Spezza-Stone
Smith-Turris-Alfie
Michalek-Zibb-Silf
Greening-Pageau-Condra
(Conacher,Neil)

Oh man, that's four good looking lines.

Michalek-Spezza-Ryan
Greening/Conacher-Turris-Alfie
Greening/Conacher-Zibanejad-Silfverberg
Condra-Smith-Neil

:D:D

You're lack of Pageau is disturbing.

Pageau played great in his limited call up, but he's still got to prove he's a regular. Competition will be fierce for that 4th center spot, and the only way I see Pageau making it is if there is a trade or one of Smith/Zibanejad is shifted to the wing.

Would people rather have Rundblad or Ceci? Just straight up as players - who would you rather have in the pipeline slotted in as future RD2? (here I'm putting Gryba RD3)

The more I think about it, the less Eriksson seems likely. He's only 28 and a good building block along with Benn at forward for Dallas. I'd say the only way we get him is by overpaying since Dallas also isn't in a very tight cap situation. Noesen + 1st + good roster player is likely around the asking price.

I'm not too sure that Eriksson was ever available. I believe this all started when Larry Brooks wrote, before the trade deadline:

"... the question is whether the Stars will begin a meaningful overhaul by dangling Loui Eriksson? Because if they do, the Rangers would be mighty interested"

He didn't even say that he was available. And even if he was, the Stars now have a new GM so I wouldn't hold your breath for Loui. But then again, it could be that there are some actual quotes from Nill about Eriksson because I'm not following it closely?

Regarding the optimum time to trade a player. As someone who trades a different commodity, I would suggest that the best time to trade is when the market is liquid. You're more likely to get the "market price" when most of the market is actively trading.

If you trade too soon, the market price hasn't yet been established and you run the risk of getting a materially different price. That can go in your favour or against you. It's a roll of the dice.

If you wait too long, it could drive the market price up due to a shortage of supply or it could drive it down due to a lack of buyers.

The draft can't get here soon enough, I don't follow any of the summer sports at all so I'm bored out of my mind. At least next year the World Cup is on.

I have nothing against Rundblad but I'd take Ceci just because he's a local kid who's played in North America all his life while Rundblad has found himself unable to become an NHL regular although he hasn't been very lucky: both Ottawa and Phoenix have very good D so he's been a victim of the numbers game

We know how Rundblads defensive game has translated (or not) but we dont know how Ceci's has, albeit it would be easier to predict. I would take the gamble that Cody will be better defensively.

He looks like a solid 2nd paring defenceman what would it take to get him out of Dallas ?

I have only seen a few clips of him so i cant really tell his value.

2nd(2014) + DaCosta ???

Call me crazy guys but I think now with Gonchar's departure, we need a top 2-3 defender more importantly than a scoring winger. Albiet both are very crucial for us to enter contender status.

Gonchar had a Norris like season for the most part of last year, excluding the playoffs and that is a ridiculous gap to cover. Yes, Karlsson will be filling in the major role played by Gonch and then some, hence negating it out but I still think we need that top 3 after Methot/Karlsson to stabilize the defense. Will we wait for Ceci/Wiercioch? Does management think Wiercioch can be that solid top 4 as early as next year?

I think a lot has to do with how management believes Ottawa's second tier defenders will respond. Karlsson and Methot are a spectacular pair.

But Cowen, Wiercioch, Gryba. I can count on Cowen to be a top 4 but does management believe one of the other two will be good enough for that role?

I agree with the above.

I'm not fully sold on Weircioch replacing Gonchar's role next year. We need a puck moving, legit top 4 defenseman next season.

Trevor Daly is a left handed defenseman, of which Ottawa already has 5 that could play in the NHL. Phillips, Cowen, Methot, Wiercioch and Borowiecki.

Why does Ottawa need that kind of player
