He was in the doghouse with every mistake because that's where he deserved to be. Honestly, he shouldn't have even played in the NHL.

Who knows the reason, though? I wouldn't say he lacked effort...he just looked gassed and incapable of keeping up with the play. Looked like his legs were gone. Hopefully it was simply from lack of conditioning due to the lockout and him being involved and meetings, and he works his ass off and comes back to the team in top shape. I don't think it'd be farfetched. Not expecting him to be much better than he was even in 11-12, but I do think he'll improve after last year; he really doesn't have anywhere to go but up.

I'm not going to go into the season hoping Richards fails...that would be moronic. Even if I don't like him as a player, I still want him to succeed.

Fair enough. I'm not cheering against Richards individually, but he has a lot of work to do before he earns support back from Rangers fans IMO. A lot of it has to do with Glen Sather, but that may have been the worst top dollar spent besides Bryzgalov and DP. The fault lies within the player too.

I always support the team before the players, never bothers me when a player gets traded or anything as long as the team can improve but what I don't understand is how people stay fans when all they do is bash the organization. Why not just go cheer for another team? Not saying you do this, just responding.

So I'm delusional for supporting a player who, yes, I'd have liked to see bought out, but is here again? Delusional for supporting a player to get back on the saddle and play well...makes sense. I'll put that in the bad idea box next to the brown toilet paper for you. :)
 
Although I don't see him falling out of the top 10, the Russian factor has a chance to bite Nichushkin. Remember when Cherepanov kept falling like a rock? The Rangers better go all out to get this kid if he drops past the Devils at #9.
 
I don't want Richards here, but I will not be rooting against him. As long as he is a NYR player taking a regular shift, I'm going to be rooting hard for the guy shift in and shift out.

I hope that he gets back to being at the very least a 60-65 point guy. I'd prefer he get to the 75+ point type season, but with his declining skill set a 60+ point season would be acceptable.

He supports former players. That Gaborik guy who was oft injured and took shifts/games off and played well every other year, he supports him.

1st off (and please take note Kershaw, there is no R is 1ST), Richards had one down season. He scored big goals all the previous season. He was a top center when we signed him. I can see him making a turnaround next season, as I can see Gaborik, but he is not on the Rangers. Did the lockout affect every player? Yes, but Riichards looked off the entire season. I'd like to see him with a real camp and season to prepare for. He had 60+ points at least when he did.

Simple: I want the team to succeed.

And while Richards was horrible most of last year--I don't think it was on purpose. I hope he will have a better year and the Rangers overall will be a better team.

I'm a Rangers fan--been one for over 45 years. What else can I do? I'm not going to give up now and regardless of my feelings about the coach or management, I will always root for the team to win.

It has nothing to do with being an optimist or a realist, it has to do with being a fan of a particular team.

I think your credibility is all but lost on this statement. Richards was on pace for a 65+ point season if it were a full 82 games. That's not worthy of 6.6 million, but it aint that terrible.

If Richards doesn't rebound to 80+ pts under a slightly more offensive coach, than he will be bought out.......how hard is this to understand.
 
Don't bother arguing. He's going to tell you how he's a realist and edgy.

Players like Richards who are more than likely on decline can use the extra conditioning. Bodies just get like that. I think he shows up to do at least a small bit better this coming season. He;d be stupid not to put his max effort in anyway.

You are definitely not delusional lol. I cheer for all players on this team too and I hope they all do well for the betterment of the Rangers. I have the same testament with all sports teams I cheer for. However, when Scott Gomez was playing for the Rangers, I wanted him to do well, but obviously things weren't going to work out. I wasn't going to make him out as something he was not (1C). I get that same feel from Brad Richards and it's inevitable that he'll share the same fate as Gomez. I lost support for Gomez, just like it's happening with Richards.

Why can't fans voice their displeasure with the team they love? Is that some sort of cardinal sin? I'll continue to cheer for this organization no matter what they do.
 
Come on, lads. There isn't a poster here who hasn't been involved in the philosophical "What constitutes a fan"discussion at least three times.

It's not like I'm cheering for him to fail lol. I just don't see him as a solution and his terrible play lasts season left me very bitter that he's still on this roster. I'm just not anticipating a turnaround because he showed very little in games last season.

no he wasn't.

He was on pace for 58 points.,

He was on pace for 79 games.

He was scoring at .74 points per game pace

79x.74 = 58 points

I would accept 60-65 pints from him, but I would like to see 75+

I highly doubt you see 80+ from Richards
