Well, there have been rumours about a trade MDZ for one of the wingers in Edmonton. Who knows...
Otherwise we can always try to trade Staal to Carolina (where he will go as a FA anyway) for the 7th overall and a forward if we get Bieksa
I think this coach will make our lines a little more logical.
Line 1:
Kreider-Stepan-Nash. I think that right there will be your first line. They played really well the one game they were assembled against Boston. Then Torts went back to his safe is death campaign and limited Kreider again. For a team that needs offense, that is an incredibly dangerous line.
Line 2:
Hagelin-Miller-Callahan. Miller is a stretch as a center on this line, however, we must again consider the coach. He's not a 3 line coach and he evenly disperses (as much as he can) his lines ice time. Won't be that great of a burden on Miller. Miller also is compared to Kesler in terms of playing style, Kes centered Canucks second line. Eventually this will become a line and stick.
Line 3:
Zucarello-Lindberg-Brassard. Figure that Clowe (who I believe will be resigned) will get some 3rd line burn with Lindberg and Brassard during 5-5 play as well.
Line 4:
Clowe-Boyle-Dorsett. Self explanatory.
Now there are some things that need to be sorted. Lindberg and Miller may need AHL seasoning. Therefore we might need to explore a trade for some offense. Dangling Del Zotto may yield great results. Another option is to kick the tires on Briere or Lecavier.

If Slats thinks the team just needs some tinkering rather than an overhaul, i see this -

this takes into account hagelin/cally missing the first couple of months. After they come back some changes would have to be made. Pyatt moved at the draft for a late pick. Bridge contracts for mcdonagh/stepan/hagelin in the neighborhood of MDZ's (However, factoring that MCD and Hags are arbitration eligible, my numbers might be too conservative).
I think based on slats' comments richards stays another year. Briere 1 yr, 2.5M deal. Clowe 2 yrs, 6M, provided his brains aren't mush. I think slats can get a deal on him because of the injury uncertainty, he'd be getting a lot more on the open market.
Also from what I've heard Lindberg is a dynamite faceoff/defensive dude with offensive upside, start him on the 4th line with some muscle to protect him kinda like Anisimov a couple of years back. Finally MDZ gets another year to prove himself while other D prospects develop. If AV is pushing the right buttons I think the above line-up could go really far, particularly after hags/cally come back.
Wait, what?
No way Step or Mac sign for that low. And Callahan and Hagelin on the 5th line? Richards still there?
What is this?

What do they move for Bieksa?
Ryan plays both sides but is maddeningly inconsistent and soft. I would rather look for another return for MDZ.
That's a ton of money tied up on RW.
Trade Pyatt + Bourque for McLeod + 4th 13
Asham for 4th 13
Powe for depth forward to help Hartford
Signings:
Briere - 2 years at 2.5 million per season
Clowe - 3 years at 3.5 million
Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Clowe-Brassard-Briere
Kreider-Lindberg-Callahan
McLeod-Boyle-Dorsett
Zuccarello
McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-MDZ
Moore-Stralman
Hagelin and Callahan will start the year hurt. Briere will miss at minimum 15 games due to injury. Zuccarello will play a lot.
Doubt MDZ would be the only decent piece going the other way in a trade for Ryan. Also, you left out Dorsett. Think your lineup would look better with Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett as the 4th line. Zuc-Lindberg-Cally is a 3rd line I could live with. Also wouldn't touch Clarkson but yeah.
sounds about right, VAN have NO cap flexibility, and there's no other player I could imagine they'd dump for help (cept' poor Ballard of course lol). So they aren't in much of a negotiating position. I'd do Skjei and a 2nd for him any day.
MDZ does not hold the value to be the centerpiece in a trade for Yakupov. And why would Edmonton trade him just after drafting him? And they would get a better player for Eberle as well.
If Vancouver really wants to clear cap space they start with the 800 lb. gorilla.
Where is Kreider? I'd rather sign Briere on a short term deal instead of Clarkson.
Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Ryan - Brassard - Briere
Hagelin - Lindberg - MZA
Nystrom - Boyle - Dorset
Staal - Girardi
McD - Bieska
Moore - Stralman
Eminger
This is assuming your Thomas and a 2nd for Bieska and MDZ for Ryan deals. Sign Nystrom for the 4th line. I think that would be a great team. Mix of size, skill, defensive awareness and puck moving ability.
I don't know about you guys but my goodness we need some nastiness in our D corps. Most teams have that really nasty defenseman that'll muck it up with others, we don't have that. Think we need one, which is why I like the idea of Bieksa. He'd be a bargain with what he brings every night. and when McI is finally called up he can't be the only tough guy on D.
Agreed. Bieksa may be a flawed player, but he's exciting as hell to watch. I try to emulate his style of play in beer hockey leagues.
He would add some 'swagger' to the defense for sure. He can play the PP, PK, ES.
Who is he talking about? the 4 obvious ones are Miller, Kreider, Fast and Lindberg. But of these 4, Kreider proved in the playoffs that he is NHL ready.2 solid offensive lines
2 kids that are close, going to prove if they are NHL ready during camp and exhibition.
I like him.Being young and not being nhl ready, going to Hartford doesn't mean you are not going to be a good player in the NHL one day, just means, at that time you are not quite ready.
IF we were to put our captain on the block with an eye on maximum extortion from Buffalo for their favorite son, what could we expect?
Not saying we definitely do, but is this a rare opportunity to fully exploit?
Hey Rangers fans, just wondering if you could see a fit between ANA/NYR for Hagelin. Have no idea what your needs would be so that's why I'm asking and not proposing.
