Is this a joke?

He played the latter part of this year with a sports hernia. If that's what you're referring to, my guess is that you don't know anyone that's had to deal with a hernia and how hard it is to deal with.

Last year, he was probably our best d-man not named McDonagh, and finished 12th in Norris voting last year. That's the 12th best d-man.

Obviously, I'm not saying he's the 12th best d-man in the league, but to say it's a problem if he's in the top 60 (30 teams 2 per top pairing) is asinine.

Girardi was better than Del Zotto last year.

And how did he play in the last two playoffs? Pretty damn horrific.

DZ and Girardi are the most overrated Rangers on this board.

Thats funny... because I've had people from OTHER boards offer Bobby Ryan for a Dan girardi package.. Must be really overrated.

and WPG fans on other boards are also on board with a Del Zotto for Buff swap..

But you're right.. they are overrated.

Funny that you mention overrated and Bobby Ryan together. They go hand in hand.

(Ducks fans don't really overrate him, though — everyone else does)

He's scored 30 goals+ in all 4 of his full seasons since he's been in the NHL.

This. I can't believe someone thinks that Girardi and DZ aren't overrated. Steve Mears said that Girardi is one of the best defensive defensemen in the league. Yeah right.

There was a short article on Zuccarello's situation in a Finnish hockey website Suomikiekko.com. They used Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang as a source. Not sure if this information (not very much of it...) was somewhere here already, but I quickly translated it for you guys.

New York Rangers and Mats Zuccarello are closing in on a deal.

The Norwegian forward has played in the Rangers organization since 2010-2011 season. So far Zuccarello hasn't been able to regularize his spot in the roster.

For the up coming season this is about to change.

"Only the details are unclear. Mats will get a one way contract of two to three years", Zuccarello's agent Peter Ryman told to the Norwegian Verdens Gang.

Last fall Zuccarello decided to head to the KHL and the forward played until the end of March with Metallurg Magnitogorsk. For the remainder of the season the winger retuned to the Rangers and the strong spring conviced the Rangers management.

"Mats will play in the NHL with the New York Rangers. He's in a good position and they are satisfied with what he accoplished after his return", states Ryman.

The 25 year old Norwegian winger has played 67 NHL games with 11g 23a and 34 points.

Girardi made the allstar team as a freakin defensive D. He really is one of the best in the league. Really, how many guys are above him?

do you ever realize its just you and machinehead for the most part who thinks Girardi is overrated? This includes fans of OTHER teams.

His playoff performances speak differently.

Yes, he absolutely had a great 11-12 season. But his playoffs were bad, and this year, McD was carrying his defense partner. And then the playoffs were worse.

That's because all Rangers fans do is toot Girardi's horn on the main boards. People see a minute-eating warrior who blocks shots and think he's great. I see a guy who is out of position much of the time.

He was great in the playoffs last year. This year was a little bit of a down year. All players have them. Would you have stopped considering Duncan Keith one of the best defensive Ds after last year? How about Drew Doughty two years ago? It happens to the best of the best too.

I thought CT should've gotten a longer stint up in the NHL last season. I have wet dreams of him at the left circle on the PP, firing lasers.

Derek Roy could be a good signing. Better than Weiss at least, and played a little bit under AV. Him and Raymond would be good fits. If we can't get a 3C this summer, move DZ for ROR + O'Brien at the deadline.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Raymond-Brassard-Thomas/Zuccarello
Hagelin-Roy/O'Reilly-Callahan
Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Stralman
Moore-McIlrath

Girardi isn't on the same planet as those guys. Different players. Keith and Doughty struggled offensively. I don't care about Girardi's offense. His defense has been very underwhelming for two playoffs + half a regular season.

Doughty and Keith struggled on both ends of the ice. And, try reading what I said again. I never compared Girardi to those guys.

They've had a track record of strong playoffs. Girardi-not so much. Take the NJ series-Girardi scored more points, but his defense was terrible. Staal and McD have carried his play. Put him with a very average defenseman like Del Zotto, and we saw what happened against Boston.

Yeah, Norris trophy voting has always been known to be reliable. :sarcasm: I'll let DZ's play do the talking for me.

Are they perfect? No. I didn't say DZ was the 12th best d-man in the game.

However, finishing 12th as a 21 year old (remember he's still 22. Only one year older than Kreider, who has yet to even fully crack the NHL) is impressive, and saying someone that finished 12th certainly isn't even in the top-60 is ridiculous.

Well then I guess Subban is the best defenseman in the entire league.

The team's success caused the media to fall in love with our defense.

C'mon, Norris voting has been a joke for years.

Doughtys playoff track record came AFTER his down year. He actually was still down for half a year in 11-12 too.

McDonagh, Staal and yes, Fedor Tyutin, were all able to have solid seasons because of Girardis steadiness. He is WIDELY considered to be a top defensive D, not just by Rangers fans, but by other teams fans and the people who cover the game. Maybe it's time to start trying to find what other people are seeing.
