Doughtys playoff track record came AFTER his down year. He actually was still down for half a year in 11-12 too.

McDonagh, Staal and yes, Fedor Tyutin, were all able to have solid seasons because of Girardis steadiness. He is WIDELY considered to be a top defensive D, not just by Rangers fans, but by other teams fans and the people who cover the game. Maybe it's time to start trying to find what other people are seeing.

Alright. We're not going to change eachother's minds. I don't think Girardi is all that steady; he's likeable because he's made of steel and has a warrior mentality. I just don't think he's good positionally.

Fair enough. I have had situations before where I had an uncommon opinion of a player that I did iso on to figure out what other people were talking about. Girardi is almost always in perfect position, both spatially and bodily. I recommend it. It's enlightening.

Girardi's always gotten the short end his career. Overall, he has been the most consistent defensemen post-lockout for the Rangers.

I happen to agree with this.

I don't understand sometimes why everyone wants to trade him too. That'd make us weaker on the RH D men iirc.

He blocks shots and is great for defensive games.

I don't know if this was covered already, but what's everyone's thoughts on Danny Briere? He's going to be bought out by the Flyers. I wouldn't mind him on a reasonable 2 year deal. Apparently he wants to stay close to his kids in Philly so he might be willing to sign here for shorter term/less money than elsewhere

Buy out Richards. Sign Briere to a 2 year deal, $4-5M total.

Hagelin-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Brassard-Briere/Callahan
Zucc-Lindberg-Callahan/Briere
Pyatt-Boyle-Dorsett/Powe

Well then I guess Subban is the best defenseman in the entire league.

The team's success caused the media to fall in love with our defense.

C'mon, Norris voting has been a joke for years.

I would argue Subban was one of the best d-men this year.

Can you give me 60 names that are better than DZ?

If they do that, they better replace Pyatt with someone else who can get in on the forecheck and wreak some havoc.

You could put Powe on the left side, insert Asham or find someone in the system or free agency. I just like the idea of adding Briere to our top 9 on an affordable contract. I heard he wants a 1-2 year deal in the neighborhood of $2M/year. Plus he'd get to stay near his kids. And if someone in the top 6 struggles, I have no doubt that Briere could fill in at least temporarily. Plus he's a beast in the playoffs and is a great addition to a power play that has been abysmal.

Did I say he's be a #5 defenseman on every team in the league? No. In fact, in a sucky defense like Tampa, for example, he'd be playing with Hedman on the first pairing. But if we're winning a cup, he's not going to be on any team's first pairing.

Soft. That lineup would get pushed around regularly.

wat?

I reread this like 6 times, I still don't know what this is.

what type of forward do you think a package of mdz and thomas can ge us.
if AV wants to allow his skill players to play we could use another top 6 forward

If he wasn't good positionally he wouldn't be one of the NHL's leaders with TOI. If he wasn't steady, he would get exposed numerous times a game by the top-talent he's having to defend against.

Where do you guys come up with nonsense like this.... Do you even watch the games? 100% serious question.

Why? Because he's fat? Byfuglien would be a fantastic addition to this team.

Depends on what we're trading for him.

Byf does get a lot of heat for his weight, and he is a damn good player, but I just refuse to overpay for a professional athlete who takes zero pride in his conditioning.

If Byf was a gym rat, he would be one of the league's most dominant dmen. Are you going to pay a king's ransom for a guy who eats more cheeseburgers than randy bobandy?

My thoughts exactly... G has been (albeit quietly) extremely solid for a long time.

Rangers need a #12 forward who is big can scrap but play manshter was that guy but torts had kid scared out of his wits hope he returns

Lol he's a leader in TOI because we have 0 RHD depth.

Yes, I watched every game this season. Was this good positional defense?

1 play?

Want me to find you a thousand youtube video's of Girardi's solid positioning?

Youtube? I should go find the Dawes move around Pronger if we are going there. Pronger was obviously awful.

The grass is always greener....

Yes, highlights don't tell the whole story. I'm well aware of that.

I'm just arguing that Girardi is overrated and isn't as good defensively as most here would like to believe.

In a perfect world, he wouldn't be playing 27 minutes per game, and would be on the 2nd pairing.

But let's not pretend that he doesn't have problems with losing his man in coverage. It's a big problem when your defenseman can't cover the cross-crease pass.
