you say this constantly, but i fail to see how this is demonstrated to such agree that you're so adamant about this. I only watch him play against the NYR, and he's only ever crashing the net or scoring on us, or fighting one of our guys... he is what he is.

we need players like this. A healthy Clowe would be fine with me but that's not the case.

I am in a family of Devils fans so I am forced to watch them more often than I would like. Entering the zone on the forecheck he is pretty good at the F1 role of making a beeline for the puck carrier and getting a hit. The issue is when he isn't F1 but thinks he is. He often chases the wrong guy looking for a hit which can lead to easy breakouts against and odd man rushes. Cal Clutterbuck also has this problem but on a bigger scale.

Ryane Clowe, for what he lacks in footspeed, knows how to rea the play when it's coming at him. When he gets the puck at the half boards he can do something besides slapping it back behind the net. He knows how to hit trailers in stride with passes.

I definitely think the Rangers lineup needs more toughness. That can play. I like the edge Clarkson brings. But I think he is gonna be wildly overpaid in the free market based on his stats. Maybe it's luck with te games I've watched or overreaction but I'd like to know how many of his goals were scored from within 2 feet of the net. I know those still count but that is a lot more difficult to sustain when your strength and quickness drops off.

he was better in 2011/2012 (29 goals, 54 points) and over a full season this year, he would have been on that track again. For people mentioning we need offense (like myself) I dont have any idea how Callahan's 20+ goals the last 3 years (this year pro rated) keeps getting overlooked.

He scores a lot of his points because he averages an astronomical amount of ice time. Those may be the most inefficient 50 pts in the league considering that he's always surrounded by superior offensive players that bolster up his totals. You eventually have to score if you get that much ice time. That's a similar role Tyler Bozak has on the Leafs, gets pts because he plays with Kessel all the time.

He makes dumb plays all the time. He has very little hockey IQ. He scores most of his goals from in and around the front of the net. Not saying that isn't valuable, but most guys who play that way with no real feel for the game drop off a cliff production-wise then their physical skills start to deteriorate even slightly

I don't think he looked very good at all. He looked good in one game vs. the Pens and was very lackluster in the others. He constantly got outshot while on the ice for the Rangers and skated in mud. He was carried by superior linemates all along. Besides, you can't ignore Clowe's injuries, those are a vital aspect as to why it was a poor business decision to fork over assets for an ineffective, injury prone player on his previous club.



Yeah those games vs. Pitts and Buffalo were as big of anomalies if I've ever seen one. Those are the games where Clowe produced 63% of his points. Overall, I thought he was another useless deadline acquisation. Chalk that up with Morris, Scott, Antropov and a few others I'm sure I'm missing.



Exactly. The stats support it, the eye-test supports it. Clowe is washed up and no longer the player he used to be.

Hockey is not all about points. Here is an article on Clowe's struggles away from stud centers like Couture and Pavelski. Pretty bad. Meanwhile, Clarkson brings a lot more than his higher hit totals, more PIMs lately and better track record of goal scoring.

Aside from goal scoring, Clarkson is a negative. And I'm not convinced he will continue to score at last year's pace. Pass.

I think it's been mentioned before, but Clarkson is a very good puck possession player.

At ESPN Insider, Craig Custance looks at the top players who could be traded this weekend at the NHL draft and lists Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto as one of them.

Custance writes that Del Zotto is a guy who may flourish under Alain Vigneault but with defensemen in very high demand, Glen Sather could use Del Zotto to help fill some other holes on the Rangers roster.

Clarkson did absolutely nothing his last 30 games of the year. Big time pass on him. Overrated.
